  1. Good morning. Very cheering news from the latest Ipsos poll: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/02/20/trump-poll-unpopular-post-ipsos/ The public really doesn’t like what Musk is doing. They really don’t like the tariffs. They really don’t like Trump’s stance on Ukraine. Unfortunately, they do approve of the mass deportation of nonviolent undocumented immigrants 50% to 48%. But even those numbers are hopefully moving in the right direction. This country always takes two steps backwards before our next four steps forward. But we always get there.

NY Mayor Eric Adams indicted by DOJ

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/09/25/us/new-york-city-mayor-eric-adams-indicted How do the MAGA types explain this? I thought that the DOJ was “weaponized” against Republicans?

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

Oh there’s a point. He’s just unwilling to come out and say it. He wants to imply his little conspiracy theory without actually spelling it out. Trump does the same thing all the time. This whole complaint about elections in Ukraine, as if it actually proves that Zelensky is a dictator, is asinine. It’s an argument that was created in Moscow and it’s really dumb. But Trump is repeating it so apparently some of his fans think they had better repeat it too.

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

Do you believe that Zelensky is purposefully prolonging the war so as to stay in power? That seems to be your implication here. Please answer yes or no.
  5. It will never be about me. If people stop mentioning my family I won’t either.
  6. Years ago, at Footballguys, there was a thread about AA. I discussed at length what it was like to have an alcoholic spouse (she is now several years sober) and the trouble I had forgiving her, how I accused her of driving my kids around while drunk (she never did.) I was very open at the time, discussed Al-anon and other related matters. It was a very hard time in my life. But I met a lot of wonderful people and I’m still very much involved in the AA community. Back then the reaction I got was very supportive and it helped me a lot for which I will always be appreciative. I also revealed that both my wife and I struggled with weight for many years, though in recent months we have both reached a healthy weight thanks largely to Monjaro: it really is a miracle drug. Ever since then, there are a couple people here who, usually when confronted by a comment or challenge I make about political issues which they can’t refute, make reference to my “fat drunk wife”. I’ll admit that it used to piss me off (why would anyone be such a d!ck to write that?) but now I just feel contempt for them. Obviously they have problems in their lives that they feel the need to write this stuff on the internet.
  7. I doubt he got his feelings hurt. Just because you’re a classless a$$hole it doesn’t affect anyone else.
  8. Cutting Alzheimer’s research: https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a63856368/trump-musk-nih-alzheimers-treatment/ This should be especially popular….
  9. But His Majesty asked a crowd of supporters today if he should run again and they cheered.

    CIVIL WAR II - 2025

But there is. My views on immigration stem from libertarianism. Their’s from liberalism. Big difference.

And yet you read and comment on nearly every one of my posts. You have Tim Derangement Syndrome.

Free trade leads to economic prosperity. Economic prosperity solves most problems. I think Trump is terrible and a would be dictator, but I still trust our guardrails to prevent that from happening. So yeah 20 years of almost guaranteed economic prosperity would be a worthwhile trade.

If you don’t understand that tariffs are a direct cause of inflation then you don’t understand much about economics, no offense.

Completely wrong. And it’s rather amazing coming from you, because you have argued for years that Biden’s spending had a direct effect on inflation which is was also completely wrong. Tariffs directly raise prices on the consumer. That is a DIRECT EFFECT. Any economist worth their salt will tell you the same. https://www.lordabbett.com/en-us/financial-advisor/insights/markets-and-economy/2025/addressing-investor-questions-on-tariffs-and-inflation.html

11yo girl commits suicide - bullied about being illegal

I don’t believe the people here who believe in trying to control our borders and restrict undocumented immigration had anything to do with this death or encouraged it in any way. I don’t think anyone here wanted it to happen (with the possible exception of @Horseman’s ass based on his post,)

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

Perhaps I exaggerated. It’s not 1920s Germany obviously. 5% per year is not something you want to see. But again I’m convinced it’s actually much higher because the rates listed don’t show how much lower prices would actually be if India allowed imports without charge.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

OK good point. I strongly believe it would be lower. How’s that?

You seem to think this is a positive result. I don’t agree. Increased manufacturing in the USA doesn’t really benefit us if the higher prices are passed to the consumer, because history shows that in that event the results won’t be permanent.

It went down 600 points. Slid? Plunged? I’m not that careful with words. If you want to say slid fine. I’m not expecting a crash if that’s what you think. I’m not panicking; I apologize if you thought I was. But I don’t like the trends and I’m convinced the tariffs are driving this.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

Not solely. This came up because a poster, @Gepetto, brought up India as a country with high tariffs and tried to argue that they had no inflation, apparently implying that there is no connection between inflation and tariffs. I disagree. India does have inflation, pretty high and even the chart I posted only shows the increase from year to year. Since India has had high tariffs ever since it became a nation in 1949, the fact is we don’t know how low their prices would be without the tariffs but it’s safe to say significantly lower than it is now.

I don’t think I’m smarter than anyone else. I think anyone should realize that these tariffs were stupid and unnecessary. It frustrates me greatly that some don’t get this. Is it because they feel instinctively the need to support anything Trump does or says? I’ve no idea. But I don’t get it.
