So apparently Trump called Bezos to express his displeasure and Amazon has backed down, they’re not going to do it. I guess Trump thinks that people buying stuff on Amazon simply won’t realize the reason for higher prices…if it isn’t pointed out to them, they’ll never make the connection.

I hope he doesn’t. It’s a catastrophe for the rest of us too.

I believe that as costs rise the net effect will be less cars purchased not more.

A lot of people criticized Bezos when he announced a new direction for the Washington Post editorial board a few months back, remember? They accused him of caving to Trump. But what nobody mentioned was that when he did that Bezos stated “we will stand firmly for free trade”. This has always been his position. He hates tariffs.

Lakers appear to be too small as many feared. Though I wouldn’t be shocked if they came back and won this series, it’s seems unlikely now. That’s OK. I think LeBron is healthy enough to play 2-3 more years at this level. They’ll get a couple of bigs in the summer and then they should be the favorites I think.

First off I don’t hate Donald Trump. For me hatred should be reserved for truly evil human beings. I regard Trump as a schmuck who is unfit for his position, but I don’t hate him. As for the polling: we all knew he would overreach and he has. Hardly surprising. But yeah, it’s the tariffs that have done this. And the thing is, we haven’t really seen the effects yet. That will start in a few weeks when the current supply of cheap goods run out and there is nothing to replace them. Prices are going to go way up overnight. It’s too late to stop: even if Trump were to lift all tariffs today it’s still going to happen. Most of the public have no idea what’s coming…

If the economy was doing OK I think most of the public would be indifferent to Trump going after his political enemies. With the economy not doing OK it’s going to annoy a lot of people. Not that it matters to Trump; despite his bluster he’s not running again so he doesn’t care much about public opinion. But it WILL matter to other Republicans, especially those forced to run on his coattails in a year and a half.

You said “official policy.” You didn’t say legislative process. After about 1935 there was no legislative process in the Third Reich. The extermination of the Jews was the official policy of the state.

Let’s cut to the chase here: not all rights in the Constitution apply to non-citizens. But the Supreme Court has determined, many times, that almost all civil rights apply: due process, Miranda, habeus corpus, etc. This isn’t up for debate.
