Because of the margins. Because of the energy in an off year election. And because, in particular, they’re reversing the Hispanic vote from 2024.

Looks that way right now. But a year is a long time: 1. if Trump manages somehow to bring down inflation everything is different. 2. If Trump relaxes his tariffs everything is different. 3. If Trump relaxed what ICE is doing everything could be different. However I don’t think any of these things are going to happen. I think Trump will double down, and look for distractions (war is possible) and try to paint every Democrat as a Mamdani socialist. And I think it will all blow up in his face.

So I was way off on the margin of Mamdani’s victory. Everything else is pretty much as I predicted. Big night for Democrats, no real surprises. Again I want to stress- none of this means the country is moving to the left. We remain pretty much a center right nation. Tonight is a rejection of Trump overreaching.

Greatest city on Earth. Love Broadway, Times Square, Washington Square (love playing chess there), Greenwich Village, Little Italy. Don’t love the Yankees so much but hey nobody’s perfect. Going back in the spring to see some more shows. Can’t get enough of the shows. And the food.

I think some people here are going to be really surprised when Mamdani governs like a normal, liberal NYC mayor. Most of his wilder ideas he has no power to enact. I think he’ll be fine.

It makes some people scared to show up to vote. It’s called voter suppression. That’s the point.

I am probably going to be wrong in my projection that Mamdani will win 70% or so of the vote. That race appears to be tightening a little though he should still win pretty easily.
