I don’t know. What I do know is all throughout recorded history we have had a small percentage of people who fall into this category. For thousands of years their only option, other than to hide their thoughts from the public, was to pretend to be the sex they really should have been in the first place- transvestites, cross dressers, etc. Now we have the science to actually deal with this issue properly.

In Hawaii in the early 20th century, farmers dynamited rock structures in order to bring water from one side of several islands where nothing grew, to the other side, making the sugar plantations rich. At the time this was done, this move was opposed by religious missionaries who argued “if God wanted water to be on that side He would have put it there.” Aren’t you making a similar argument here? If scientists can change what you regard as “reality” why shouldn’t they?

But that’s part of the problem. You, and many others here, are attempting to ascribe layman’s terms to mental illness and you can’t do it, anymore than you can use layman’s terms to describe quantum physics. Mental illness is a very complicated subject. I don’t pretend to understand it. On this subject, as with other subjects that I don’t understand I rely on the experts to tell me. In this day of Trumpian anti-intellectualism trusting experts is not a popular move. But it’s the right move.

This is certainly possible. But it’s important to note that if Trump had won in 2020, we still would have pulled out of Afghanistan: it was in the works. And elsewhere Trump would have continued to pursue an isolationist agenda. So there is no reason to think that Putin wouldn’t have invaded anyhow. The difference is that if not for Biden’s reaction, Ukraine would have almost surely been quickly crushed. I can’t see Trump in 2022, as President, reacting the way Biden did. Can you?

In other words Jerry, the mental disorder is not caused by a person thinking he is the wrong sex, it’s caused by a person BEING the wrong sex. That’s the complete opposite of what you’re arguing.

The second paragraph you quoted matches exactly what I have read: its a condition that arises from the distress and discomfort- therefore its cured by changing to the correct sex.

Yes. Here’s why: it’s true that if Trump had his way Ukraine would just surrender- at the very least Trump doesn’t care. But Ukraine will not just surrender and still has the backing of the European Union. Meanwhile Trump wants more than anything else to come away looking like the big hero who engineered the peace, maybe a Nobel prize, etc. So I think Trump will push Putin to offer a deal that Zelenskyy can accept. That’s my hope, that’s why I’m still optimistic. We’ll see.

My problem with @jerryskids analysis has always been this: according to everything I have read on this: 1.Gender dysphoria is NOT a mental illness. 2. Gender dysphoria CAUSES mental illness. 3.The best cure to gender dysphoria is a sex operation that changes the sex of the person who has it to the one that he or she is better suited to be. These three points, almost universally accepted by medical doctors, psychiatrists, and scientists, directly contradict most of the thinking here. Which is why I have a big problem with most of the thinking here.

You too. But obviously this is a terrible decision. But is it a decision? Trump says this stuff but hasn’t really carried through very much. Maybe the smart folks around him (and there are still a small handful) will talk him out of it. Hopefully.

Inflation is typically a global thing so in the past I have never blamed a President. Trump would be the first one because his tariffs bring a new element to the equation.

In some ways yes. Most of it I can live with with even if I disagree. But I have a huge problem with the way undocumented people are being persecuted. I think there is a bigotry, fear and ugliness out there currently that is very much un-American IMO. Same with how trans folks are being treated though that’s a much smaller group of people.

First off, none of the 4 separate indictments of Donald Trump were examples of weaponized justice. I continue to maintain that all of them were justified and well deserved, and the only political aspect was that they were not done sooner. Second, even if they had been political indictments, the “well they did it too!” defense never worked for me as a kid and doesn’t work now either.

All hospitals are woke because almost scientists are woke. Woke is about respect for science and human dignity.

I agree that trans women should not be allowed to compete. However I also think that Trump doesn’t have the authority to decide this issue.

I apologize, it’s my own fault for responding to trolls. From now on I will try to restrict my responses to those truly interested in discussing these topics and have the ability to think independently instead of just cheerlead. If in the future I ignore your posts, well now you know why.
