Your first sentence made me laugh. Actually your whole post made me laugh. To correct you: I wrote that it’s OK to break an immoral law in EXTREME circumstances only. Like hiding an escaped slave in your cellar. Or hiding a Jew during the Holocaust, etc. Trespassing to stage a publicized protest is not an extreme circumstance. Therefore despite my sympathy with these folks it was correct to arrest them if they truly did trespass (they claim they didn’t.)

In this instance I’m concerned about due process.

I certainly have. I voted for Joe Biden and many others who have done so. I don’t agree with it in most cases however. But I’m not a one issue voter.

Breaking into my house would make him a violent felon. So no it wouldn’t be immoral to arrest him.

No. Not because I deem it so. Because arresting and deporting people who are not violent felons is, by any standard, an immoral act, regardless of what you or I think. And yes there are exceptions to the law. I just offered slavery, that was the point that abolitionists made.

Libertarians don’t believe in a lawless society. Public health and safety MUST override individual liberties.

And even though it was correct to arrest them, it’s politically a really stupid move. The public has moved away from the Trump folks on this issue because Trump has overreached. Arresting a mayor is not a good look.

If they were asked to leave and refused to do so then it was right to arrest them. I’m still sympathetic to them though. They’re on the right side.

I can’t approve of breaking the law (if that’s what actually happened.) But their cause is just and moral. As the great abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison said, there is a higher law than the Constitution.

Thanks for bringing me up. I think it’s reasonable to be concerned about climate change. I think it’s reasonable to try and do things to combat it, or if that’s no longer possible, to prepare ourselves for the negative changes it will bring to our society. It’s interesting that you refer to me as a panicmonger: I’ve never felt the need to panic about this or any other issue. But I do think we should take notice and take action as needed; my goal is to AVOID panic.

@RLLD there is no doubt there are going to be Democrats out there opposing everything Trump does because it’s Trump, just as there were Republicans opposing everthing Biden did because it’s Biden. You’re absolutely right about that. Personally, however, I oppose the tariffs based on my libertarian beliefs in free trade. It’s rather new for me to be arguing with conservatives on this issue; up to the very recent past, it was always leftists like Bernie Sanders who wanted tariffs and conservatives like Ronald Reagan who were on my side of things. I haven’t really changed my position on this issue for decades.
