My response to this post is not meant for the guy who wrote it, because he is an idiot, but for anyone else reading it: the main opposition to tariffs are not coming from the “radical left” but from conservatives who traditionally believe in free enterprise.

While you can argue over the rest of his points, it IS very likely that she would not have started a trade war. I don’t see how you can reasonably argue otherwise.

This is what I mean by too late: the other countries retaliate, and then Trump retaliates, and that’s how trade wars get started. Once they start it’s very difficult to stop because all parties have a lot of national pride and resentment which makes it very difficult for a nation’s leaders to back off (we already are starting to see this happening with Canada.) This isn’t fearmongering. It’s what happened in history almost every time tariffs are attempted as means to achieve some other goal. You can read books on Smoot Harley, or President McKinley in the 1890s- the results are always the same. But it’s not too late yet. Trump can back off right now, and it will be no harm no foul.

Obviously we disagree strongly about Kamala. But it’s a moot point. We have Trump, he is our President. I really do want him to succeed because I don’t want this nation to suffer. The first step is that the people around him have to talk him out of these tariffs. Other than Navarro, I know they know better. Both Musk and Lutnick are guys with deep knowledge of trade, there is no way they can think this is a good thing. They have to sit Trump down and get some sense into him before it’s too late.

If Russia refuses to agree to the 30 day truce, what next? Will we increase our support for Ukraine?

Pretty sure refugees from Ecuador and everywhere else have to wait years too. Nobody gets immediate access. The family I worked with were given approved visas in the summer of 2022. They arrived here on October 30, 2024.

How would the doctor possibly know that they were undocumented? Did he inspect their papers? And what does your post have to do with Social Security benefits which was the subject of the post you responded to?

Biden didn’t abruptly reverse the policy of allowing Afghan refugees permission to come here. They were in line, with visas, waiting to come. Ita a slow process which Biden had no power to speed up. Trump is the one who ended it. I’m sorry @HellToupee you can criticize Biden all you want but if these people are retuned to Afghanistan and executed, Donald Trump will be the one responsible. There is no way to sugarcoat this, no way to excuse it.

Again, those were refugees with legal permission to come here. They were NOT “illegal” no matter what that idiot Norman says.

Yesterday Elon Musk told an absolute lie on this subject; he accused the Democratic Party of bringing in “illegal immigrants” (his words) and giving them fake Social Security numbers and collecting benefits. The truth is that many undocumented immigrants DO have fake Social Security numbers, in order to work “over the table”, but these result in them paying INTO the system (through employer deductions) not receiving benefits. It is extremely rare for any undocumented person to ever receive benefits. It’s a one way ladder in the other direction, and it’s helping to keep Social Security afloat. It’s also a big part of the reason that these folks are an economic net positive for America.

Sure. And many will take advantage of what’s available (most won’t in part because of ignorance but mostly because they don’t want to risk being discovered by authority figures). But it’s not why they come.

Bump. It doesn’t surprise me that so few people around here have been willing to respond to this story, but I think it deserves being paid attention to.

Biden wasn’t flying undocumented people in. Nor was he giving them money or putting them in hotels. He was doing ALL of these things for refugees and I wish he had done more. Trump has put a stop to all of it and now many of these refugees face possible death. I addressed this yesterday. It’s shameful.

Tell you what: let’s revisit this discussion again in one or two years. If during that time border crossings stay at their current low level, then I will concede that this was all Trump, that he was effective, and that the problem has been resolved. If on the other hand, as I predict, there will be at some point another explosion of people at our border which Trump is unable to control, then perhaps you will acknowledge that the issues are a little more complex than mere security?
