Trump absolutely had something to do with it. His presence and threats have successfully scared people away for now. But it’s a band-aid not a cure. Undocumented immigrants arrive at our borders as a result of pressures we have no control over. Eventually that pressure will become overwhelming again.

Look if he’s causing violence or persuading people to cause violence I get it. But if he’s merely speaking out against Israel, even if he’s pro-Hamas, then sorry you’re wrong. We don’t need to be protected from speech no matter how filthy. @Cdub100 and others around here say terrible things about Jews, how we’re trying to take over the world, how we should be deported, etc. Do you think I need to be protected from him? I don’t. I’m not a victim; I’ve never been one. Neither are you. We don’t need protection. Let them have their say.

Because the economic factors that causes this have simmered down for the moment. None of the underlying problems have been resolved. I can almost guarantee you that the numbers will get heavy again at some point in the next few years. It’s inevitable because we refuse to address the real issues.

That was a bad decision made at the height of the McCarthy era. Most legal scholars regard it as a low moment for the court. Even so the issues there were far more clear-cut. If you could prove that Khalil is actually a member of Hamas you would have a much stronger case (which I might even agree with.)

I think the evidence needs to be more exact for the courts than for your personal assessment. Frankly I don’t trust your judgment on this. You have shown yourself in the past to be all too willing to accept conservative propaganda that has very little basis in reality (such as the Hunter Biden stuff, to cite one example of many.)

Eliminate tariffs and things will improve both short term AND long term.

You’re right I see it only one way. It’s the same way 99% of economists see it.

Neither you nor anyone else has been able to explain to me how tariffs against Canada will fix any damage or achieve anything positive. The migration of companies to the US is minimal and if it comes at a severe cost to consumers it’s certainly not a plus for us.

Well that might work (doubtful). On the other hand he could simply end these tariffs, and the stock market would soar, and the economy would likely boom. Wouldn’t that be better and easier?

Ukraine and US agree to a 40 day ceasefire IF Russia agrees. Rubio: “The ball is in Russia’s court.” This is good news but let’s see if Russia goes along.

Again the devil is in the details. What does supporting Hamas mean? What is pro-Hamas propaganda? I just want to point out that I have stated many times in this forum that Hamas is an evil organization and that its leadership deserves death, yet because I have also criticized Israel, some people here have labelled me as “Pro-Hamas”. As a result I tend to be a bit cynical about this sort of designation.

Maybe you’re right. I don’t find the evidence compelling…yet. If it turns out to be I will change my mind.

Trump has reversed himself again, is now resuming military and intelligence aid to Ukraine, just announced. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad to hear it. But I have trouble understanding how these constant changes of policy and chaos do us any good. In the last week a few thousand Ukrainian civilians died unnecessarily in part because we withheld intelligence and they didn’t know when a drone attack was coming. So what was the point of that?

I have no idea. But IMO if it is lawful for the President to order the arrest and deportation of a foreign college student based solely on political speech that the President doesn’t like, then it shouldn’t be.

Thank you. That’s not, in itself, enough for me to justify this action.

Because every time there is a protest over something this emotional, it has the potential to attract bad actors who perform individual acts of violence, and in this case it would likely be against Jews. That is almost never the fault of the organizers. However as I wrote earlier many Jewish students did attend and participate in these protests and nothing happened to them. There are also often counter-protests and these also can lead to violent confrontations. This is also not the fault of the organizer.

Well you should. Nobody owns us. Some liberals think Russia and Putin owns us; they don’t. Some conservatives think “the globalists” own us; they don’t. But if you specifically believe that Israel owns us you’re almost surely a bigot and a Jew hater. I don’t agree with you on many issues but I wouldn’t want to put you (or anyone) in that category unless you truly earned it and was truly describable.
