But you’re objecting to me discussing an issue which is being raised by far more reputable sources than any of those other topics. And you never objected to those, but you’re objecting to me. Obviously this one bothers you more. Which suggests to me partisanship and a double standard.

I don’t see you objecting to reports that Biden is a pedophile, that Pelosi’s husband was sexually involved with his attacker, or any of the other crap that gets discussed here. So it’s highly hypocritical for you to come down on me in light of that.

However there is also some talk out there that prior to the election, Trump told Bibi to delay coming to this agreement (which is essentially the same agreement that was in July) until after the election so that it wouldn’t help Biden. Right now these are only rumors. There is no proof. I hope this is not the case. Trump is IMO a shallow guy but I hope he is not shallow enough to allow hostages to remain imprisoned for the sake of winning an election.

Everything I’m reading and hearing says that Trump is the reason for this, Trump put pressure on Netanyahu to get this done. So credit must go to Trump.

This. Always better to be debating who deserves credit rather than who deserves blame. This is a good day. That being said, a ceasefire is not peace. Peace will be far more complicated to achieve.

Rent control restricts rent for all rental properties in a city (Santa Monica for example.) Affordable housing is built for the specific purpose of cheaper rents. Rent control restricts the landlord; affordable housing usually involves the landlord receiving government funding to keep the rents lower.

I don’t believe that. Donald Trump represents an unusual, almost unique set of circumstances. I don’t think his success in getting away with the crap he has will have much of an impact on our society as a whole.

Look it’s the guy Trump wants. And Trump got elected. Personally unless one can PROVE incompetence or malfeasance (and that’s a pretty high bar) I’d vote for all of Trump’s picks. That’s what the voters want. It’s Trump’s show now, let’s see how it goes.

I don’t think you know much about Orange County do you? It’s dominated by conservatives and local government has been Republican forever with very few exceptions. I was referring to local politics not statewide. In terms of statewide politics your contention that Democratic policies are failed policies is absolutely debatable and in fact I disagree with you strongly .

Based on the questioning it looks to me like Hegseth will get in on a party line vote. Republicans don’t care about or are willing to excuse his behavior.

That’s because the benefits provided are nationwide while the costs incurred, though far less, affect only the area in question. So the solution to this is not to get rid of these people but to distribute the costs federally among all 50 states. Of course this solution will never happen; it’s far too logical.

In every city in Orange County, Republican candidates for city council consistently run on a platform of denying affordable housing. It’s a very ugly policy of NIMBY which borders on blatant racism. Thats one big reason I always vote Democrat.

And this shows the shallowness of YOUR thinking. Without these folks taking their place at the bottom of the food chain costs go up much higher. We need these people no matter what it costs to house them. It’s pennies on the dollar compared to their financial benefit to us. That’s what people like you never seem to undestand- mainly because you don’t want to.

You don’t. You promote it. Affordable housing isn’t a question of space; we have plenty of room in Southern California. It’s a question of will. That’s true of all immigration to the United States. We have room for all of these folks. The question is do we want them? I do. Most of you don’t. I’m in the minority and don’t expect to win this fight but that doesn’t make me wrong.

Not true. If I was working in a construction or land development company and thinking about going into business for myself now is the time to do it. Get a small business loan and take the risk. Same for any field associated with construction and development. Same for small retail. There’s going to be tons of opportunity here if you’re bold enough to grab it.

Of course I care. It’s why I oppose every effort to clamp down on affordable housing (always sponsored by Republicans.)

And we’re going to rebuild all those homes and commercial property. Maybe not exactly the same manner but it’s going to be done. Los Angeles is going to be an economic boomtown in the next few years. People are going to make fortunes here.

New immigrants to this area (or any area) don’t rent or own the same type of places that people like my in laws reside in. You’re talking apples and oranges. Do they impact each other? Maybe long term but even that’s debatable. Doesn’t matter anyhow; we need them.

I think Karen Bass has done a poor job. I question her competence. I don’t think if she had done a better job it would have made very much of a difference. None of this has anything to do with her race or DEI or any liberal program or ideology.
