You might get that from @Fnord; you won’t from me. The Hunter Biden story was crap; they investigated for months and Joe Biden was blameless. Whatever Hunter did Joe was not involved, and all that stuff about Joe taking money from Ukraine or China or whoever was BS. THIS Verizon-Starlink story may be corrupt. I don’t know yet. I strongly suspect Jared Kushner receiving 2 billion from the Saudis was corrupt. But calling these out, and dismissing the Hunter Biden non-story, isn’t hypocritical or a double standard. In each case I apply the exact same standard: examine the details.

I’m not trying to spread fear, only facts. When the government interferes with the marketplace, prices go up. It doesn’t matter if the interference involves wages or taxes on imports or trying to control the number of existing workers or regulations. ANY interference affects the price.

No. You’re actually getting back more in terms of total spending power. As a group (there are always individual exceptions) undocumented people don’t infringe on you at all. They actually make your life better.

No it’s not racist, it’s a recognition that the United States is a better country than any other on the planet, because despite all of our flaws we still provide the most opportunity for individuals to reach their full potential.

Yes it’s certainly a flaw in Democratic thinking. But Republicans aren’t any better, supporting a President determined to artificially inflate prices through tariffs for no good reason. Earlier in this thread I made the connection between minimum wage and tariffs, how both rely on illogical thinking. And you can add to this the attempt to do away with undocumented workers as well. Sadly there appears to be no leaders on either side who believe in capitalism any longer.

They really don’t. And you should know that every major libertarian think tank, from the Cato Institute to the Reason Foundation, favors open immigration and amnesty for most of the undocumented people already here.

Could be. But that’s a woman’s personal decision (or it should be.) The state shouldn’t be involved. The state shouldn’t be deporting nonviolent people. In both instances I am taking a consistent libertarian position: leave people alone or make their own decisions.

Well Im optimistic for slightly different reasons than you. I think we’re going to ultimately reject Trump and MAGA and get back to free trade, globalism, and diversity and THAT will lead to prosperity.

I just don’t get people who are rooting against Zelensky and for Putin. I mean I can understand not wanting us to be involved- I don’t agree but I can understand. But to root against Zelensky? To want him to lose this war? There’s something wrong with you.

If you truly think that Trump is doing a good job negotiating here then you are somebody I would like to make a deal with.

No I’m serious. What was his point? The next human genius, the guy who changes the world, (think Thomas Edison or Albert Einstein or Bill Gates) could come from anywhere, any culture. Maybe the kid deported was that genius. Maybe the fact that this kid has to go back to a sh!thole country without the opportunities we have here will doom him or her and humanity will have lost what could have been. It’s something to think about.

It IS sad. No matter what happens from here, the result of the 2024 Presidential election will be a low point in our history. But I am optimistic about the future.

He had a high opinion of Republicans and constantly assured me that they were far too good to ever nominate a man like Donald Trump. Then he believed that the American people were far too decent to ever elect a man like Donald Trump. He suffered two great betrayals that year.

@TrailGuy seems reasonable to me. He’s offering the same criticism that a lot of the nation is offering. He and I are in the minority here for sure but not necessarily in the general public. I sense a lot of buyer’s remorse is starting to take place. People voted for Trump to lower prices and secure the border, not all this other stuff.

Not sure what the farm bill will do but I do know that the tariffs on Mexico and Canada are coming shortly and I expect all supermarket prices to rise further and rapidly.

No he’s right. We really have no idea. I didn’t make that assumption with Hunter Biden so I shouldn’t be doing it now.
