I think this is probably good advice. Trump seems determined to go through with his tariffs. The only reason the market didn’t plunge further today is because nobody is sure that he means it. Unfortunately I think he does.

Well you point wrong. I don’t believe that she came here illegally (though if she did I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it.) She’s a socialist, not a Communist. As I wrote I don’t like her. But a lot of the antagonism towards her tends to be quite bigoted so I feel the need to defend her. In any case forget it. She’s not going anywhere.

I have to admit that your two posts make an awful lot of sense here. I can tell you are speaking here with knowledge, authority and thoughtfulness. It bothers me that someone with your obvious intelligence could be a virulent anti-Semite. I shouldn’t care but I do. I wish you would apply your thinking skills to that area of your beliefs as well.

That was me. I tend to overreact at times. I’m glad it was an overreaction. I still don’t like the trends though. I would be much happier if Trump stopped with the tariff talk.

To be honest I don’t think the email is unreasonable. I think threatening to lose your job over it is a little harsh (and I’m not sure it’s legal) but again, I don’t exactly think the public is going to be outraged by this approach. I try not to look at everything through a partisan lens. Is it a real burden for these government employees to spend 3 minutes writing an email listing what they did last week in broad strokes? I don’t see how it is. All this complaining about it doesn’t make them look good, IMO.

It’s happened to a few people. I was referring to the public at large. If large numbers of people are not able to access government services they use regularly, that sort of thing. To my knowledge that hasn’t happened. There are terrible anecdotes sure but most of the public won’t care unless it happens to THEM.

Trump’s numbers have gone down, but not to a number that should alarm his supporters. @Hawkeye21 is correct that it’s early yet. He and @jerryskids and @supermike80 are also correct that the public isn’t going to have a problem with the DOGE cuts, despite the haphazard way they’re being done: people like efficiency efforts and they’re willing to tolerate job losses to get there. That being said, the public WILL eventually turn against Trump if prices don’t come down, and if they start to rise that will be sooner rather than later. Trump has some time here to accomplish this but if prices are still high a year from now Republicans will likely lose the House Majority, possibly the Senate as well. And there will be backlash over these DOGE cuts IF they start to directly negatively affect the public. So far that hasn’t happened, but it could.
