Thanks. It’s really hitting my wife hard. She moved to that house when she was 5 and grew up there. But houses can be replaced, people can’t. My in laws are safe and sound which is what matters.

Confirmed that my FIL’s house is gone.

Her campaign was pretty shameful IMO. She portrayed Rick Caruso as a rich white bigot and Trump supporter. He’s rich and white; the rest was a lie. Caruso can’t stand Trump and the feeling is mutual (maybe because Caruso is better at real estate that Trump could ever dream of being, wealthier than Trump, honest and a generally good guy with innovative and moderate pro-business liberal ideas.) But unfortunately Bass was successful at playing the race card.

A restaurant owner I’m associated with is offering free dinners to first responders.

As I wrote before the folks in the Palisades are pretty wealthy. Many of them are Republican, like my FIL. Some of them are big time Trump donors. Some of them are big time Democratic donors. I have a feeling they’ll end up getting their insurance money. These people usually end up getting what they want.

No idea why you chose to respond to me this way. I was asked if my in laws had insurance or if it had already been cancelled. I replied yes they had insurance , that’s all I meant. What happens next I have no clue. Will the insurance company cover their losses (assuming the house is lost?) No idea. I certainly hope so. Guess we’ll find out.

This is going to lead to a crisis. Most people in Pacific Palisades are very wealthy. They’re going to demand to rebuild, but they won’t do it without new insurance in place. If the insurance companies refuse then just like in Florida there will be tremendous pressure placed on the politicians to step in. And the politicians won’t ignore Pacific Palisades; it’s been a major fundraising source for both parties.

I’m not surprised that Trump immediately attacked Newsom and Newsom responded by immediately attacking Trump. But I find it unfortunate and depressing. I don’t like either of these two politicians. Say what you will about Joe Biden, but all he does in these situations is offer to help. So sick and tired of the blame game.

Thanks. No their insurance is fine. But there’s still no confirmation about their house and won’t be for a few days. Perhaps some houses survived; apparently the Getty did so why not? We’ll keep on hoping until we know.

It’s terrible. Some of my in-laws neighbors refused to leave. Really stubborn, thought they could save their homes, stand on the roof with a hose, etc. No clue what has happened to them. Other folks have insisted on returning to their houses today and they’re impeding access for the firefighters. Just really dumb IMO.

I’m not afraid of anything. You asked a question and I tried to answer it as best I could. I don’t like Karen Bass. If she’s proven to be incompetent it wouldn’t surprise me. But I don’t know her role in this stuff and I’m skeptical of people making assumptions at this point.

Again you accuse me of acting like I’m an expert and I’m not doing that. But yeah I think I can dismiss some of the opinions here if they’re completely biased and irrelevant which many of them are. For example, forest management has NOTHING to do with the Malibu fire. As to your first point I agree 100%. If we find flaws in the system, mistakes, deliberate actions based on political philosophy that made things worse, by all means let’s have that discussion. I think it’s a little early to have it now and I sick to death of every time there’s a crisis people blaming liberalism (or conservatism) and lining up to take sides and prove they were right.

Maybe. Not necessarily. A lot of this fire, including where my in laws live, is in unincorporated LA County. Not part of the city. In addition, I don’t know the mayor’s exact responsibilities in a city that also has a city council and an independent fire department. So I can’t answer you. I’m skeptical that anyone here can.
