Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
What’s so ironic about this is if the Supreme Court does the right thing here and shut down Trump’s tariffs, it will boost the economy so much that it could actually help Republicans in next year’s elections. But I’ll take it if that’s the ultimate price. -
Again you’re completely wrong about this. Nobody predicted the margin of victory (well I did for the most part but none of the experts did. ) Nobody, not even me, predicted the amount of people voting- in Virginia, New Jersey, California, NYC, records were set for an off year election. Hell, in California there weren’t even any politicians on the ballot! Perhaps most significantly, nobody predicted the amount of Latinos who had voted for Trump in 2024 now voting for Democrats. I hoped it would happen but even I am surprised by the numbers. The whole movement of Latinos to the Republican Party over the last several years has been completely destroyed. I think we all know why.

You wrote “within the next few days”. And your very next sentence was “Once the election is over they won’t need to hold this over our heads” So weak and laughable you would try to parse it now in order to avoid admitting you’re a liar. Oh well. People can read this and your above post and make up their own minds.

You and others continue to miss the point. Politics have changed. We, the Democrats, along with like minded independents and even some conservatives, regard Donald Trump as a serious existential threat to American freedoms in real time. That is no joke. The ONLY way to fight him and MAGA is to elect Democrats everywhere. We can’t wait for perfect candidates. We can’t elect moderate Republicans, even “Never Trumpers”. This is why even Bill Kristol said that if he was in New York he would have voted for Mamdani. It’s all hands on deck until this current threat has been defeated. Once Trump and the MAGA movement are gone we can hopefully get back to normal. Personally I would love to vote for some sane Republicans again; I prefer more capitalism and less government control. But right now I can’t.

Not trying to spike anything. You made a prediction, so did I. One of us will be wrong. If I’m wrong I’ll own it. Let’s get back to you. Last night you denied ever making this prediction. That makes you a LIAR. Of course we already knew that.
-
Here you go liar. lol. Have a good night!
-
@Strike also predicted, only this morning, that the Democrats would cave on the shutdown right after tonight’s elections. He was half right; there’s gonna be a cave but it’s coming from the Republicans over the next few days. Watch and see.
-
I stopped at the first bolded because I couldn’t stop laughing. Then I read the rest of it. And I got to the second bolded. So you admit you’re nothing but a troll? We actually all knew this but it’s refreshing that you acknowledge it.
-
Mandami’s speech was historic and exhilarating; Newsom’s statement was solid and sobering. The Democratic Party has new leaders tonight.
-
Lol you think I care if you accept it? I clearly remember it. I’m not gonna look it up because unlike you I don’t obsess over stuff like this. You did it, I remember, deny it all you want. Or don’t. Who cares?
-
More red states but not more red congressional districts. This will end badly for the GOP and for the country. But Trump started it; what are the Dems supposed to do?
-
You linked poll from a few years ago suggesting that Californians opposed redistricting.
-
Trump is pissed; he says it’s because he wasn’t on the ballot (except he was! Everywhere!) and because of the shutdown. He called once again for Republicans to end the filibuster. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Politics/trump-dismisses-bad-election-results-blaming-ballot-shutdown/story?id=127202200 Lololol

I was told several weeks ago, by @Strike and others, that Californians didn’t want 50.

I am young, I am a Muslim, I am a socialist; and I refuse to apologize for any of it. Wow.
-
“Donald Trump since I know you’re watching. I have 4 words for you: turn the volume up.” This is going to be shown a million times.
-
It’s a really good speech.
-
Let’s just throw out the Constitution and have a 2028 race between Trump and Mamdani.
-
Maine rejected voter ID law.
-
Because of the margins. Because of the energy in an off year election. And because, in particular, they’re reversing the Hispanic vote from 2024.
-
Looks that way right now. But a year is a long time: 1. if Trump manages somehow to bring down inflation everything is different. 2. If Trump relaxes his tariffs everything is different. 3. If Trump relaxed what ICE is doing everything could be different. However I don’t think any of these things are going to happen. I think Trump will double down, and look for distractions (war is possible) and try to paint every Democrat as a Mamdani socialist. And I think it will all blow up in his face.
-
They didn’t hold serve. They won New Jersey by THIRTEEN POINTS!! Are you kidding me?
-
Despite everything I like you HT. I wish you weren’t so anti-Muslim I really think you have bigoted views there. But overall I think you’re a good dude.
-
So I was way off on the margin of Mamdani’s victory. Everything else is pretty much as I predicted. Big night for Democrats, no real surprises. Again I want to stress- none of this means the country is moving to the left. We remain pretty much a center right nation. Tonight is a rejection of Trump overreaching.

Yeah they can’t decide if he’s an Islamist or a Communist. Can’t really be both.
