I always thought she was too leftist for me. I still don’t agree with many of her ideas. But at this time in our history when we desperately need someone to stand up for immigrants she has taken the lead. She’s becoming a heroine to me.

It’s both. He’s doing bad things but he’s doing them badly. (FTR, Trump is not close to the most racist President in history. Post Civil War-slaveowners don’t count- that would have to be Woodrow Wilson. Trump IS racist but nowhere near that racist. As for most unfit, I would say yeah a good case can be made for Trump.)

Because we want the mail to be guaranteed. It’s a basic government service like police or fire department. On the other hand in this world of emails and other messaging perhaps it’s no longer necessary to have it under government control. That’s why I said I’m not sure. There are those who are suspicious of how this would affect elections but I’m not concerned about that aspect too much.

Here is what Richard Grenell, Trump’s point man, said yesterday: I can’t think of a better security assurance than private equity forces on the ground, American businessmen on the ground…we will have a bunch of Americans in Ukraine… I think he’s right about this and if I were Zelensky I would agree to this deal based on this point alone. What I’m NOT sure about is that it’s good for the U.S. in exchange for these minerals we are basically guaranteeing Ukraine just as we would under NATO. And isn’t Russia going to be threatened by this? It’s not like we haven’t tried this before. In the 1960s we made a deal with the shah of Iran in which we would extricate their oil (they didn’t know how to do it themselves) in exchange for a percentage of it (I don’t think it was 50% but close). Thousands of Americans went to work and live in Iran and we set up everything for them. That story didn’t end well.

All right I’ve tried twice now to clarify what I meant. That’s all I can do. If you want to think ill of me I guess I can’t help that. It is funny to me that I seem to have made more enemies in the forum on this issue (trans) than any other, because in truth I don’t care much about it. It’s mildly interesting to me but it’s certainly not a core conviction of mine nor is it IMO an issue that is of vital concern to the USA. If it turns out that you are correct that it’s a mental disease and all of the world’s health experts change their position it wouldn’t change my life in the slightest.

I don’t think we end the war by kissing Putin’s ass. I don’t think that’s good diplomacy. And those who hold that position aren’t children. You remind me of the liberals who wrung their hands when Ronald Reagan dared to call the Russians what they were, an evil empire. But Reagan’s belligerence gained us many concessions and helped bring about the end of that evil. I don’t think you understand realpolitik any more than Nevil Chamberlain did.

How are we going to extricate these resources (which, BTW, Russia also covets)? Are we going to have American engineers and workers over there? Who will guarantee their safety? Up to this point we were simply aiding a small country invaded by a big country with money and arms, but we weren’t ourselves involved. Now we’re becoming involved long term. If this goes through there will be an American presence in Ukraine. Are we sure this is what we want?

They’re the guys that don’t have your intelligence and couldn’t formulate one of your arguments to save their lives, but whenever you and I have a discussion on this subject they immediately post that you “owned” me.
