I am one of those who have written here that ICE agents under Trump are behaving like modern day Gestapo. I think that’s correct. I’m not going to stop repeating that until they stop their Gestapo like behavior. I think it’s wrong to target non violent people, to separate families, to detain and deport non violent people. I don’t care what their legal status is. What ICE is doing is anti-American in my book. Full stop. But I am not calling for violence against them (or against anyone) and I condemn it. Passive resistance only. And if you or anyone else tries to blame this horrible incident (if indeed ICE agents were targeted, we just don’t know) on what I wrote or on anyone else who shares my opinion, kindly Fock off, because you’re wrong.

What Five Words Can Get You Laid

I’m not a Trump fan. -
They didn’t censor speech about COVID due to political pressure, they censured it due public health pressure. As they should have. The Biden Administration acted correctly. Not out of political pressure or spite but to save lives. It’s OK to censure speech when lives are at stake. The Kimmel situation was totally different and completely unjustified. And it failed. You lost.
-
Sorry no. And you guys looks both petty and foolish making this argument tonight. It’s over. You lost. Trump lost and is whining about it (not unusual.) The public is solidly behind Kimmel.

Good morning. I’ve avoided posting in the Charlie Kirk thread out of respect and because I remembered the reaction to the first attempt to assassinate Donald Trump- I knew that emotions would run high and I had no desire to contribute to what would inevitably be a very ugly back and forth. I would however, like to engage in a larger discussion about political violence in this country. There are three essential points I would like to make, keeping in mind that these are my opinions only: First, we are kidding ourselves by trying to pretend that political violence and assassinations are not normal in this country. Unfortunately the opposite is true: from Alexander Hamilton to Abraham Lincoln to JFK to the present day, this is who we are as a nation. We are a violent country and we more often than not settle our differences with violence. All those of goodwill would like it to be otherwise, but that’s not who we’ve been. What happened to Charlie Kirk is exactly who we’ve been. Second, political violence is not mostly caused by conservatives and is not mostly caused by liberals. Nor is it necessarily caused by extremists from either side (though this might be more often than not.) It is caused by people from all sides who are passionate about their beliefs and have decided that violence is the best means to achieve their goals. I would argue further that most of these people are not mentally ill; they made conscious, rational decisions to get to this point, even if (hopefully) most of us would disagree with that decision. Third: reading the Charlie Kirk thread, if one is able to put aside the threats and insults, the main argument being made by conservatives is that those of us on the left are culpable because our rhetoric against conservatives has, in recent times, been extremist, which invites violence against prominent conservatives. There is merit to this argument. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Nor am I going to engage in whataboutisms though I could, because they’re irrelevant to the charge. (If I do something wrong my guilt is not lessened by the fact that others committed the same wrong, even if those others are the ones charging me with the crime.) What I WILL say is that, while I can’t speak for others, whenever I have used extremist language to describe aspects of the MAGA movement it was not done out of provocation but because I believe it to be true. My defense, therefore, is essentially integrity in my arguments. No doubt this will either not be believed or will not be acceptable to many here. But there it is.

I don’t think he means it.

Keith Obermann is such a lunatic

I enjoy Keith Olbermann’s podcast and I don’t believe he meant any violence in his remarks about Jennings. -
Homan reportedly was recorded accepting $50K, but investigation shut down

Well said except for the last sentence: he isn’t acting -
I did. That was incorrect. But it should not be taken during pregnancy without a doctor’s supervision. No medicine should. Which is the main point. The even larger point is that Tylenol is the only safe effective medication for pregnant women who have fevers or severe back pain, which is a whole lot of pregnant women. Aspirin at low dosages is not effective and at high dosages it’s dangerous, and ibuprofen is dangerous. Which is why what Trump and RFK have done is so wrong and dangerous.
-
You wrote “without doctor supervision”.
-
But pregnant women shouldn’t take it unless it’s prescribed. That’s in the link you already provided.
-
Without? Does the word “prescribed” have a different meaning in your universe?
-
Really? Then why does it have to be prescribed by a doctor? Why only in low dosages? And how effective do you think low dosages of aspirin is going to be treating fevers and severe back pain?
-
Wow. Embarrassing that you and Brahma revert to this. Really sad. My wife and I were not obese during the pregnancy years. Like so many others we have struggled with these issues since. Joking about other peoples’ weight and sobriety issues always says more about the person making the comment than the target. And nothing good.
-
Yeah you failed to add the rest of it which says that aspirin during pregnancy is NOT safe for most women and should only be prescribed by your doctor, in low dosages, and isn’t effective for treating fevers and back pain. But congrats on your selective reading.
-
Why don’t you? Look it up and then look up the word “preeclampsia”. What is it with these morons this morning?
-
This is becoming hilarious. Extremely rare? One third of all pregnant women have fevers during the 9 months. 80% suffer from pretty severe back pain. My wife had both both times. Perhaps yours did too and you were simply unaware? I’ve no idea how you or anyone can be this ignorant.
-
Are you related to Hardcore? Is it some kind of genetic thing?
-
Why don’t you look it up yourself? Just type “ibuprofen and pregnancy”. It will take you a second or less. Read up on it and get back to us.
-
Seems to be a rarity here.
-
You deserve to be lectured. Not by me but by anyone reading this. Your questions are insipid. Your comments are worse. No I don’t believe a man can get pregnant. You know how I know this? Because if a man could get pregnant abortion would be legal in every state. It wouldn’t even be an issue. And don’t change the subject. Just admit your ignorance and move on.
-
You’re really doubling down on the idiocy this morning. The answer is no. Not safely.
-
Almost nobody here is a medical expert. But some of us read medical experts, and other science experts, and generally trust them and follow their advice. Others don’t, choosing to trust their emotions and preheld beliefs instead.
-
It started long before COVID. And their rejection of the experts during COVID cost thousands of lives.
