It’s not over…but it’s not looking so good. -

It’s your money. I can’t imagine risking $50k, much less twice that, on a football game. -

You seem quite upset. -

It’s a beautiful town. Green Burrito is now part of Carls Jr so it’s not that great, but there’s plenty of great Mexican close by. Main Street off the pier is full of great places to eat. -

Dammit now I’m gonna have to root for the Eagles and I never root for the Eagles. And my daughters are going to be pissed at me… -

As I recall they arrested folks on both sides during those incidents. Plenty of racist skinheads too. I’m all for arresting anyone who starts violence. In truth we don’t have much of a problem with it in HB. We’re pretty peaceful. That’s part of the reason we don’t your racist ugliness coming back. Stay away. -
Thats not what I wrote.

And by the way our Congressman from Huntington Beach is Dave Min. He is a Democrat. Trust me we don’t want you back. -

Link? I’ve lived here almost my entire life and I don’t remember their arrival. -
I wish I had it figured out. But I have great respect for Ronald Reagan. I’ve been to his library 3 times now. It’s a wonderful place to see if you’re ever in the LA area. Reagan was one of our greatest Presidents and amnesty is an important part of his legacy.
-
And FTR @Hardcore troubadour: the agreement wasn’t broken. Congress DID increase security for the border after Reagan’s amnesty. It just wasn’t enough to stem the tide. It will never be enough when there is a lot of people coming because as I keep trying to explain, you can’t slow down people crossing the border unless you’re willing to deal with the conditions in Latin America that is creating this issue. And we never have.

Because the Republican Party wasn’t with him. Too many nativists even then.

The vote was near unanimous. From 5 Points to the Harbor, from Beach Blvd to Central Park, from Bella Terra to the Pier: nobody wants you back. -
Yes, we know he would because he said in a debate in 1980 he would give amnesty straight out without asking for anything in return.

1. Unless you have a net worth of over $50 million (perhaps you do) placing $50,000 on a football game is idiotic, whether you win or lose. I hope you have no loved ones depending on your financial wisdom. 2. Governor Newsom isn’t going anywhere. 3. I took a vote: we, the citizens of Huntington Beach, don’t want you to return. -
Great. It’s getting closer. If this becomes a full out pandemic, it will be far more deadly than Covid. But on the other hand, in the past few weeks we have cut funding from the CDC, severed ties from the WHO, appointed a HHS director who is vaccine skeptical, and re-elected the most incompetent President in our history dealing with a health crisis that we’ve ever had. What could possibly go wrong?
-
And I expect Trump’s popularity to grow. For now. Every once in a while in our history America pulls inward and a lot of ugliness emerges. It happened in the 1930s and again in the 1950s. It’s happening now. We are a good and decent people. Most of those who voted for Trump this time around aren’t racist or awful, they just chose to overlook some stuff it’s not wise to overlook. We will recover from this. It will take a little time.
-
I can only tell you what’s obvious. The facts are there. If the public wants to ignore it I can’t help that. I will continue to point out that Donald Trump is a vicious racist, not because doing so wins any votes or elections, but because it’s true: he is a vicious racist.
-
He never once regretted it.
-
Somehow I get the feeling that you wouldn’t be willing to open America’s doors to all Europeans, but only to, you know, Nordic types. Am I right about that?
-
Your second statement is quite wrong. I actually agree with many things Trump says. For example I think he’s dead right about artificial intelligence. Your third statement applies more to yourself than me. But I’ll never convince you of that so we’re at an impasse.
-
If at this point in the year 2025, after over 15 years of Donald Trump discussing politics at a highly visible level, you insist that “Trump has said nothing racist” then you’re simply in a state of denial that no amount of facts or reason can penetrate.
-
It’s you who don’t get it. A lot of these folks, and Latin Americans in general, voted blue over the years not because of any handouts but because they correctly perceived the growing anti-undocumented immigrant stance of Republicans as rooted in anti-Latino bigotry. Thats changed however. Many Latinos voted for Trump this time around because they were more concerned about inflation than they were about his racism, and they wrongly believed he could fix inflation. I think they will live to regret both miscalculations.
-
Sure because of our pension program. Without undocumented immigrants it would be much much higher. We’re still the richest state in the union so I think we’ll survive.
-
No again this is revisionist history. Reagan made the deal, which promised future security measures, to please anti- immigrant hardliners in his own party. But Reagan himself would have given amnesty without any such deal, he originally proposed it when he ran for President in 1980. He was always sympathetic to undocumented immigrants. It was a key part of his core ideology about what made America the “shining city on the hill.”
