LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

You seem to be ignoring the fact, which I’ve now repeated several times, that I don’t get my views on tariffs from the MSM. It happens that they seem to agree with me and with most economists. I already told you that my views on tariffs are core convictions of mine, have been for 35 years, and I told you exactly where I got them.
  2. You guys really have a warped view of liberals that has no basis in reality or history.
  3. @Patented Phil based on your description of what happened here I don’t think there is any evil going on one way or another. Evil does exist but I think we should be careful of using that term, or Nazi. Hamas is evil. The Russian invasion of Ukraine was evil. Pedophiles and rapists are evil. Pol Pot was evil. Charles Manson, etc. Police who arrest an old woman, no matter how misguided it might be, aren’t evil. Those that defend the police who arrested the old woman, however wrong they might be, aren’t evil. Nor are they Nazis. You make these words meaningless when you apply them in this fashion.
  4. I didn’t watch the video. I’ve stopped watching videos on the internet. They’re usually edited and I don’t trust them. I read articles from reputable sources; that’s how I get my news.

    Mass Deportation

You’re such a sucker for these performances. Any serious effort to clamp down on employers hiring undocumented workers would cost hundreds of billions of dollars and take resources ICE isn’t close to having. Not to mention that it would gut our economy. It’s never going to happen.

    Mass Deportation

Public opinion per the latest polling remains in favor of deporting non violent undocumented people, 50-48%. However that number is going down. I think it will eventually go into the negatives. I am guessing the public hasn’t really thought this through and once they do they won’t be for doing this.
  7. It’s not a question of balls. It’s a question of the police carrying out the law which they’re obligated to do. What I don’t know is how many warnings they gave her beforehand and what her response to the warnings were. These situations are rarely as black and white as they originally appear. Thats why I wrote seems extreme.
  8. I’m still not sure I do. I don’t really see the parallel to the BLM protests. Most of those protests started off as parades down wide streets or boulevards. Black Lives Matter, or whoever the organizing group was, had to get a permit long beforehand. If no permit was had, the protest was broken up and that was proper. Late in the evening, long after all the BLM people went home, thugs would emerge who would burn or loot. Those that were caught were arrested. This was also proper. In this situation it seems reasonable to me that there needs to be some regulation regarding protests. If someone breaks that regulation then the police has no choice but to arrest them; that doesn’t make them Nazis and your use of that term is unfortunate IMO. That being said, it also seems unreasonable to make a silent vigil that is several hundred feet away from the clinic illegal.

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

I just read that Zelensky was installed and that somebody else was calling the shots? A question for any sane people reading these posts: do you guys think @League Champion and @Hardcore troubadour are trolling? Or do they really believe this stuff?

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

I’m afraid I don’t understand. Who installed Zelensky? Who is calling the shots?

Is it too early to talk MARCH MADNESS?

You wrote the other day that you plan to recoup your losses of $50,000 from the Super Bowl here. Will this be on one wager?
  12. @Patented Phil I agree this arrest seems extreme. On the other hand you would hopefully agree that there needs to be SOME kind of laws regulating protests, right? What should those be, in your opinion?
  13. It’s not bad news when the public disagrees with him. Hopefully that will force him to change some of his positions. That is in keeping with my hopes.
  14. I don’t know who Daulton is. But yes anyone who uses that word deserves condemnation IMO. It doesn’t change what you wrote.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

I don’t know what to tell you. I suppose, to be quite exact I should argue that, per economists, tariffs raise prices for consumers, which is not precisely the same as inflation. (This may be where you’re getting your argument.) But the net effect is the same. It might be simpler, and more exact, to say that tariffs cause economic misery. The amount of the misery is always tied to the amount of the tariffs. Trump’s current tariffs are the largest for this country since Smoot-Harley, which most economists believe brought on the Great Depression. Those are the facts, the rest is up to you.
  16. So suddenly Karen Bass’ opinion is of value to you? Lololol. She’s right. Trump has done a good job with this. My family is very impressed with the speed of what’s happening. Of course they were always Trump fans anyhow so they’re eager to comment on this. It doesn’t excuse his asinine decision to release the water supply in central California, which did nothing to help the fires and is hurting farmers: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/20/what-are-levees-trump-california That’s going to cost us plenty.
  17. Good morning. Very cheering news from the latest Ipsos poll: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/02/20/trump-poll-unpopular-post-ipsos/ The public really doesn’t like what Musk is doing. They really don’t like the tariffs. They really don’t like Trump’s stance on Ukraine. Unfortunately, they do approve of the mass deportation of nonviolent undocumented immigrants 50% to 48%. But even those numbers are hopefully moving in the right direction. This country always takes two steps backwards before our next four steps forward. But we always get there.

NY Mayor Eric Adams indicted by DOJ

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/09/25/us/new-york-city-mayor-eric-adams-indicted How do the MAGA types explain this? I thought that the DOJ was “weaponized” against Republicans?

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

Oh there’s a point. He’s just unwilling to come out and say it. He wants to imply his little conspiracy theory without actually spelling it out. Trump does the same thing all the time. This whole complaint about elections in Ukraine, as if it actually proves that Zelensky is a dictator, is asinine. It’s an argument that was created in Moscow and it’s really dumb. But Trump is repeating it so apparently some of his fans think they had better repeat it too.

Trump and Russia- the optimism is fading

Do you believe that Zelensky is purposefully prolonging the war so as to stay in power? That seems to be your implication here. Please answer yes or no.
  21. It will never be about me. If people stop mentioning my family I won’t either.
  22. Years ago, at Footballguys, there was a thread about AA. I discussed at length what it was like to have an alcoholic spouse (she is now several years sober) and the trouble I had forgiving her, how I accused her of driving my kids around while drunk (she never did.) I was very open at the time, discussed Al-anon and other related matters. It was a very hard time in my life. But I met a lot of wonderful people and I’m still very much involved in the AA community. Back then the reaction I got was very supportive and it helped me a lot for which I will always be appreciative. I also revealed that both my wife and I struggled with weight for many years, though in recent months we have both reached a healthy weight thanks largely to Monjaro: it really is a miracle drug. Ever since then, there are a couple people here who, usually when confronted by a comment or challenge I make about political issues which they can’t refute, make reference to my “fat drunk wife”. I’ll admit that it used to piss me off (why would anyone be such a d!ck to write that?) but now I just feel contempt for them. Obviously they have problems in their lives that they feel the need to write this stuff on the internet.
  23. 1. No. 2. Yes. And you forgot the second part.
  24. I doubt he got his feelings hurt. Just because you’re a classless a$$hole it doesn’t affect anyone else.
