You need to stop calling yourself a conservative. I’ve read your posts and there’s nothing conservative about them. You believe in a bunch of really insane conspiracy crap, mixed in with bigotry against non-whites and Jews. Your viewpoints are ugly, stupid, and awful, and it’s insulting to real conservatives to act like you’re one of them. HTH. -

Except they don’t. This is the lie you keep telling yourself. The truth is that undocumented immigrants are a net economic benefit: https://www.epi.org/publication/unauthorized-immigrants/ It’s the attempts at mass deportations that cost moneh not these people themselves. Stop repeating bullsh!t. -

Isn’t this like the 8th country they’ve tried to send him to? How much money have the taxpayers wasted on this one guy who still hasn’t been proven to have done anything wrong? Must be several millions. -

Except that Venezuela isn’t a major producer of cocaine. It transports cocaine to and from. And in any case it’s very unlikely that bombing the crap out of drug manufacturers will do anything to decrease drug use in America. It’s a little amazing to me that some people seem to believe that it can. -

are you aware that we never went to war in Vietnam? Or Afghanistan? Or Iraq? And that if you asked this question at those times about any of those countries, the correct answer would be no? -
Here come the tariffs

I don’t support either. If Canada wants to punish their consumers, that’s their business. It’s stupid. I don’t think we should retaliate by punishing ours. -

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Trump has cut off all trade negotiations with Canada. He’s pissed off that Canada put out a commercial with Ronald Reagan’s voice criticizing tariffs. Trump called it fraudulent (it isn’t; Reagan was firmly pro-free trade his entire political life.) What a baby we are dealing with here. -
So here are the scary facts that both political parties are ignoring, to our peril: 1. The current total national debt is 35 trillion dollars. 2. This amount increases by 1 trillion each year (the deficit.) Sometimes less sometimes more. (Last year it was 1.5 trillion.) 3. Our interest payments on the debt are a trillion a year. This represents 22% of our total annual government spending (4.5 trillion.) 4. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats have any proposals to alleviate this in the slightest. Both parties propose massive more spending. Republicans propose more tax cuts in addition to the spending so they will actually increase the deficit far more. Democrats propose tax increases but coupled with their spending these will not be enough to significantly address this issue. Both parties seem to want to pretend that this issue doesn’t exist (though conservatives tend to talk about it more, but mainly as a tool to argue against specific liberal spending proposals.) 5. There will be a point, sometime in the future, when the amount of interest will be large enough to as to create a financial calamity in this country. How big, how catastrophic, nobody knows. But it IS coming at some point. What to do?

My understanding is that the part of the White House he is destroying is not historic so I don’t really give a damn. On the scale of things to care about this is pretty low. A few days ago Trump tried to lecture cattle ranchers about how much the tariffs were helping them: https://www.oklahomafarmreport.com/okfr/2025/10/22/president-trump-lectures-cattle-producers-as-he-again-calls-for-cheaper-beef-prices-for-consumers/ He is truly awful. -

The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Yes. It is a VERY good idea if it is tied to securing first time home mortgages, which was the proposal under Biden that Republicans rejected. It would have been similar to the GI Bill after World War II, and create a new class of homebuyers which would in turn create an economic boom. Yes it’s an excellent idea and we can still do it. Not sure how it relates to the tariffs though. -

I think you missed the main point. I’m giving MAGA (not righties, I still make that distinction if others won’t) a hard time because they viciously attacked Fetterman for illness, which is something that they do. Now I viciously attacked ‘MTG for anti-Semitic rhetoric and extremism but that’s different, that’s based on policy not one one’s mental or physical condition. As far as a deep blue lens goes I’ve honestly never had one until now. And it’s only temporary because I don’t feel comfortable with it. I remain a moderate and I oppose ideas that are too leftist. Nonetheless I support Mamdami, and Crockett, and AOC and all the rest because “all hands on deck.” Call it TDS if you want but I truly truly believe that Donald Trump and the MAGA movement is an existential threat to almost everything I love about this country, and the only way to fight it, peacefully (I reject fighting it any other way) is Democrats winning, winning everywhere, winning in every race, winning as much as possible until this blight has been eradicated. Once that happens maybe I can go back to being a centrist again and vote for Republicans and Democrats alike.
