Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

If you’re wrong I will lose way more than $1000. This isn’t a game for me. So I really hope you’re right. -

I’m hoping you’re right. We’ll know soon enough. The tariffs can be done by executive order so if he wants to do 20% or whatever it’s fairly easy. The mass deportations, whatever that means, is a much more involved process. Let’s see how it goes. -

Are you in Trump’s ear? Because what you’ve suggested in the past doesn’t match what he’s been saying about this. -

The tariffs that Trump placed on Chinese and a few other countries were bad and Biden was IMO not to repeal them. But these new tariffs aren’t the same- Trump says 20% on all countries which is a whole different deal. But hopefully he’s talked out of it. As to your first point I don’t think it will look like Poland in 1939 either. But what will it look like? Thats what I don’t know. What does mass deportation mean? If we’re just getting rid of violent felons, which I have no problem with doing, that’s not mass deportation. So what is Trump really talking about and how does it work? -

The whole resist thing isn’t going to be real UNLESS Trump really goes through with the mass deportation deal and tries to send authorities to round up millions of people. If that actually happens (which I still kinda doubt) then we will see massive unrest, violence. And it will be really really ugly. But somehow I still can’t see it because the effects on the economy will be so detrimental. With the tariffs I hope Trump gets talked out of them. But if he enacts them then my main hope the outcry from the public is so massive that they are quickly retracted. -

Second concern: I want to know how this mass deportation is going to work. I do not want people who look like they might not be citizens (whatever that looks like) harassed by police and asked for papers. I do not want people encouraged to report on their neighbors, or employers asked to turn in to the police or ICE the names of people they know or suspect to be undocumented. I see this whole thing as being really ugly and scary. -

Thanks @jerryskids. The tariffs will have an immediate negative impact on me personally as I am involved in a few retail companies that import goods from Turkey and the Middle East. We receive shipments in containers that arrive in the port of Long Beach and the taxes are already considerable. Frankly we can not afford a 20% hike without losing money. These are gift items so we can’t raise prices without killing the business. And we’re small fry: a couple of stores in southern Cali. There are billions of dollars of products that arrive at Long Beach and San Pedro every week. I can’t fathom the impact that this will have. Would it be temporary? Lasting a few months? A year or longer? Who knows? It doesn’t make any sense to me, never did. -

You’re completely right about this except for the part about @Strike not liking me. He must love me. Why else does he post so much about me? -
Trump should have the option to serve 2 more terms as president if he wants it.
The Real timschochet replied to jbycho's topic in The Geek Club
Of course you are. And in your case we know it doesn’t have to be Trump. Any white racist will do. -

You’re so obsessed. I’ll still post once in a while just not not nearly as often. I’m not going anywhere. Sheesh. -
House Race...called 219 to 211!...Trump to become US first Dictator!

I don’t believe your facts here are correct. I don’t think they would be dumb enough to charge her with that but if they did she would be easily acquitted. I almost hope they try. -

Well I don’t agree with you. -

I do, because they don’t serve the best interests of our country. Trump won the popular vote. You get that right? It’s not the outcome I wanted but it’s the outcome. It’s the equivalent of a national pardon. He is who the people want. The people know about these charges and they don’t care. So be it. -

I’ve heard similar sentiment from Steve Bannon in the last few days. He also mentioned charging Pelosi and Schiff with crimes. I’m curious: what crimes? What evidence? -

I swear all this fear about Trump becoming a dictator is ALMOST making me a Trump fan. Not reallly; I detest the guy because he is corrupt, inept, has terrible policies and is an awful human being. But some of those in the media and some folks here need to calm down. He is not a fockin Hitler wannabe. I’m looking at you @squistion. I like you, I agree with you most of the time and appreciate your posts. But stop with the fearmongering. There’s plenty to dislike about Trump without trying to spread this crap. It’s not only dumb, it’s weak sauce. Our side got our asses kicked royally. We need to accept that and move on. This isn’t the way to do it. -

Thanks but I really need a break from politics. I don’t like the way things are going. I need to clear my head of this stuff. Who knows? If Trump ends up doing good things maybe I’ll return a fan. -

I’m offering my thoughts for a few days here and then there’s going to be a long break. Anyhow why do you care so much? You whine about my posting habits in multiple threads. Nothing better to do? -
I’m willing to question the media now.

There appear to be lots of reasons why the Democrats lost. I’m sure Biden’s hubris had something to do with it. So did some contempt for woke. I disagree that it was bad campaign strategy because I’m not sure what more Harris could have done in 107 days, or how much differently she could have or should have run her campaign. I also think that her being a woman is still a limiting factor for many voters. But none of these are, IMO, the main reason that Trump won. That reason appears to be pretty simple: exit polling reports that 77% of voters are very unhappy with the state of our economy. I believe that is more perception than reality but it doesn’t matter. When that happens the incumbent political party loses. Always. -

So listen up my conservative friends: you now have: 1. The President you wanted, elected by a mandate size majority. 2. A 53 member majority in the Senate. 3. Should be a majority in the House- not sure how big yet but everybody agrees the GOP will retain control. 4. A conservative dominated Supreme Court. 5. Most of the “RINO/establishment” Republicans are gone, retired, defeated. There will be true conservative types or Trump allies in almost all positions of power. In short, everything you guys have ever wanted. Now you have NO excuses, nobody to blame if things go badly. Bring it on. We can’t stop you. And at the end of this don’t complain about not being able to do something, like cutting spending, balancing the budget, dealing with immigration, etc. etc. Because this is your opportunity. Let’s see if you can make America great again. -

There wasn’t any deception in the example you’re offering. What they did is repeat things that Trump had said and then offer the opinion that he is a fascist (nobody ever said “genocidal”, no idea where that came from). I disagree with that opinion but given some of Trump’s comments it’s not an unreasonable opinion to offer. -

You may be right. But even if you are it’s temporary and we will eventually move forward. Kamala was right: we’re not going back. Trump and his fans don’t accept his but eventually they will. -

Not necessarily. You’re right on most things of course but there are points we can find some common interests I suspect. Promoting nuclear energy is one example. It’s time a President got serious about that- maybe Trump is the guy. Next- if he can come up with a peace for Russia and Ukraine that is not a surrender for Ukraine that will be a tremendous achievement. If his threat of tariffs lead to better trade agreements rather than a trade war, as some here have argued, I will take that outcome. I am open to all of this. I doubt we’ll ever find common ground on immigration issues however. -

I don’t believe he will try to stay in office. And if he does try I don’t believe the SCOTUS will back him. There will be an election in 2028 like always. Donald Trump is a lame duck. It will be interesting to see which Republican emerges as the front runner. I doubt Vance. I’m thinking DeSantis. -

You know I’m just not a despondent kind of guy. I don’t like this outcome any more than you do but we’ll get through it. And who knows? It might turn out OK. I go into each new beginning with an open mind. As far as I’m concerned Donald Trump has a clean slate with me at the moment. There are things he can do that will gain my approval. We’ll see.
