The whole Musk thing has led to this bigger issue: https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/10/politics/constitutional-crisis-trump-overhaul-analysis-biskupic/index.html Trump’s team appears to be defying the direct orders of judges.
-
Is this as real as you betting $50k on Kansas City?
-
And here you are responding again. It’s quite extraordinary.
-
Yes you keep repeating this. In response to my posts.

Hey if DOGE manages to cut the deficit in half I will be very impressed. Let’s see if you’re right.

Massive prisoner swap with Russia achieved; our people come home; Trump is upset.
The Real timschochet posted a topic in The Geek Club
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/01/politics/russia-us-prisoner-swap/index.html Involves several countries. Supposed to include Gershkovich and Whelan. May also include a Russian assassin being held in Germany. Even so I really hope it’s true. Apparently we’ll know in a few hours. -
Israel-Hamas cease-fire deal proves Trump’s a better prez out of office than Biden was in it
The Real timschochet replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
Israel has already been specific than Trump: if the hostages are not released, the ceasefire ends. I have no problem with Trump or Israel getting tough here. I do have a lot of concerns about what happens next. -
@jerryskids argument here is specious. It makes no sense. Trump is not cutting any of his own power; he is cutting Congress’ power. That increases his power. At the same time he is hiring sycophants in every position of importance.

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
I don’t agree. I think it’s all completely relevant. -
An activist judge is not a real judge… The implicit argument here is that if I don’t agree with a judge’s decision it is not legitimate. Shouldn’t I regard this statement as a full on frontal attack against our system of government?
-
Elon Musk tweeted this morning: Democracy is being destroyed by judicial coup. An activist judge is not a real judge. This appears to be an invitation to President Trump to break the law. Curious if you guys agree with these comments?
-
Of course it is IF all those agencies are tied to congressional authority rather than Presidential authority, which is exactly the case.

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Sure, but lots of things could affect jobs here. We subsidize certain industries at the expense of others, and that has an effect. We are currently demonizing and trying to deport large numbers of undocumented immigrants and that has a HUGE effect on jobs. Imposing tariffs which will raise prices on consumers will have an effect on jobs. DOGE slashing government programs that employ thousands of people will have a huge effect. Globalism is not an idea to be accepted or rejected by this country; it’s a reality that we have to face. We are not a self-reliant nation and never will be again. We depend on the rest of the world and they depend on us. -
JD Vance has argued that he can directly defy it if he wants without trying to change it, if he thinks it’s a bad ruling. Do you agree with Vance on this?

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
First off I’m not convinced that other countries are taking advantage of us. Trump’s main argument is that trade deficits are bad for us and that’s not necessarily so. This is a complicated subject as any economist will tell you. More importantly, I don’t really care. So long as we benefit more from action A (free trade on our part) than action B (tariffs on our part) I’m going to choose action A every time. Whether or not other nations take advantage of that is irrelevant to me. -
Lots of obfuscating in this thread.
-
You didn’t answer the question. It’s a pretty clear yes or no question. Are you OK with Trump directly defying a judge’s order?
-
I understand that part and I agree with you. What I don’t understand, because most of them are refusing to say (except for a few openly pro-dictatorship folks at the start of the thread) is whether or not this point justifies Trump defying the courts.
-
There is precedence for this in our history. Andrew Jackson infamously said “the Supreme Court has made their ruling. Now let them try and enforce it.” When he said that, we were dangerously close to losing our democracy. Jackson was wildly popular with the public and could have seized all political power. The military was with him and no one could have stopped him. In the end he chose not to do so, and backed down. If Trump chooses to directly defy the courts it will be the first time since Jackson.
-
If unlike Biden Trump DIRECTLY violates a judge’s ruling are you OK with that?
-
I’m confused by those of you bringing up the Biden student loans. I get that you’re trying to point out hypocrisy: that’s not at all unusual. But beyond that are you saying that Biden’s move justifies what Trump is doing? That since Biden (supposedly) broke the law, it’s OK for Trump to break the law?
-
Do you agree that while the ruling is being appealed, Trump must follow the orders of the judge in the meantime? Or do you share the view expressed by our current Vice President that Trump has the right to defy the judges because he is acting in the best interests of the public?

Trump appoints Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National intelligence

They’re all terrified of MAGA. I figured all of these folks are getting through. They’ll have to own it though. -
Elon musk shuts down govt
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
No this is not correct. Democrats are not objecting to the cuts so much as the way he is doing the cuts by exceeding his legal authority. And the public didn’t give Trump any mandate for that. -
Planes collide on runway in Scottsdale
The Real timschochet replied to Fireballer's topic in The Geek Club
Bullsh!t to blame Trump unless you can show that he made moves which had a direct impact. Bullsh!t of Trump to blame DEI which he probably will do.
