Wow. And you accuse me of offering an ignorant rant? You know nothing about my business. And you obviously know nothing about macroeconomics or capitalism either. And you know nothing about the economics of this country if you believe that the burdens of undocumented immigration exceed the benefits. Unfortunately you’re not alone. So many people believe this. But it’s factually incorrect. Put me on ignore if you want. I won’t ignore you. It’s childish IMO. I’ll continue to read your posts. Sometimes you make thoughtful remarks and you have a good sense of humor. But when I think you get things wrong I will try to correct you. And boy did you ever get this wrong.

This is the exact opposite of the truth. Employers who hire undocumented people lower costs for all of society. They don’t do it to push costs off, they benefit all of us by performing work at a price determined not by the government but by the marketplace. This is capitalism 101.

The interim between losing the current workers and a guest worker program would be catastrophic for the economy. It will never happen. And history has shown that guest worker programs don’t work because nobody ever leaves. Same with undocumented folks; they’re not going anywhere. A far simpler solution than yours is to simply give these folks legal recognition.

I would but the price of vibrators are going to skyrocket along with everything else. Who do you think works in the factories that assemble them? Unless you want me to purchase a foreign made vibrator and there will be a tariff on that too.

Not really no. Do you use the supermarket? Enjoy eating out? Use most retail services? If so this won’t be awesome for you; quite the opposite.

It’s designed to cause fear. They’re doing a good job of it too. Millions of undocumented are scared to send their kids to school, scared to show up for work. There’s going to be some terrible results from this- for the country.

It will never be enforced. Doing so would destroy our economy.

Yeah well I get that but I take the opposite view. I’d rather Trump be perceived as a winner than to see this actually happen. I don’t want the pain this will cause in real time.

Thats the point- some of this is already happening. I heard an interview yesterday with leaders of the Navajo community in Arizona: they’re getting all kinds of harassment reports from members of their tribe.

So here is the strategy being advised by the ACLU. If a member of ICE approaches you and ask to see proof of your legal right to be here, be polite but ask “do you have a warrant with my name on it?” 90% of the time they won’t, and if they are obeying the law they will back off. Unfortunately some of these agents are currently not obeying the law, but asking the question is better than nothing. The ACLU is also advising that all Americans with dark skin carry proof of legal status at all times- this is burdensome but there is a lot of racial profiling going on and sure to continue in this terrible environment. And have the phone number of the ACLU offices on speed dial: they’re available 24/7. As I wrote they’re fighting the good fight.

Right now things have calmed way down - all through 2024 we were at decade lows- but eventually climate change combined with the corrupt governments down there (which we either turn a blind eye to or directly cultivate) are going to create further crisis and no amount of security at the border will be able to stop it. The only way to stop it is to address the issues south of us, which we’re not doing.

I predicted it will be performative. Mexico and Canada will agree to “cooperate.” Border encounters will go down until there is another crisis in Latin America at which point they will rise again. Fetanyl will continue to flow into this country unabated so long as the demand for it remains high.

Besides, the cost of mass deportation, even if it were possible, would be much higher than anything undocumented immigrants currently receive, at a huge detriment to us (right now their presence here remains an economic benefit to every American.)

I can’t read the article because it’s for subscribers. But the headline of it still doesn’t suggest what you quoted. Look I am sure that somewhere, sometimes, there are undocumented immigrants taking advantage of government aid. But I don’t think it’s very common. In California they are not eligible for SNAP (food stamp) benefits ; you have to have an I-94 and prof of legal residency. Even then I can tell you from the folks I’ve helped that SNAP is very little: around $1600 a month for a family of 5. There’s no welfare queens around here.

My prediction: right before these happen, Trump will announce that Mexico and Canada have “surrendered”, agreeing to help us with the borders. Very few details will be offered, and the MAGA crowd will cheer that the Alpha President strikes again and that tariffs work. I sure hope I’m right…

Love how you reference me. If this is actually happening I would be very much opposed to it. But I’m highly skeptical. Your source isn’t exactly reputable.
