This program saved millions of lives. I don’t want to end it. I listened to a former director this morning, a conservative Republican, make a case for keeping it. I don’t want it to end.
-
Nope. I said it was racist if you used terms like “Kung Flu” or took it out on Asian people here.

Trump wants the U.S. to take over Gaza and relocate all the Palestinians
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
So on Wednesday Caroline Leavitt and a bunch of other Republicans assure everyone “oh he doesn’t mean troops on the ground” and “oh he just wants to temporarily relocate the Palestinians while rebuilding is taking place” and “oh this is the first step in negotiations, it’s an out of the box way to move peace forward” etc. etc. And then on Wednesday Trump goes on Truth Social and reiterates everything he said Monday night: Palestinians will have to leave forever, we will put troops on the ground if we have to, we’re gonna turn it into the new Riveria. It’s just like the first term: Trump says crazy sh!t, his people try to soften it, explain what he really meant, or claim he never actually said it, Trump then repeats the same crazy sh!t again. -
🚨USAID & CIA behind 2019 Trump Impeachment🚨

I enjoy the pause. I hope it lasts. This really is a good agency. If you’re going to drastically cut it that should be debated by Congress. I would be against that. But if you’re going to do it, it should be done carefully and with plenty of notice, why the rush? I really hate chaos. Not good for business. -
1. If it was authorized by Congress he can’t lay off a number large enough to effectively terminate the program. 2. if the employees have contracts that allow for a whole termination process, he can’t lay them off without cause of wrongful behavior.

If you’re referring to me I absolutely did give a flying phuck since I knew a lot of those small businesses and did my best to help them out. And I honestly believed then, and still do, that everyone taking the Covid shot would lead to opening up those businesses sooner, and make us all safer. So yeah I was for them being mandatory and I don’t regret that a bit.

Since forever if it’s against the law?

That’s exactly what he ruled: it’s overstepping.

Federal judge shuts down what Trump and Musk are trying to do at USAID -
I should add this is a clear case of federalism.
-
They will lose.
-
Federal judge pauses USAID terminations. excellent!

You have a bad habit of trying to ascribe your own presumed motives to the side you oppose, and you’re usually wrong. Liberals (and many conservatives and independents) are concerned about this because programs which really do a lot of good are being slashed, not just the wasteful elements. It also appears to be illegal in many cases.

I am glad to be compared to Peter Parker. Great hero of mine. “Shallow and superficial” correctly describes this entire enterprise. Which is a good thing.

https://www.wired.com/story/usaid-collapse-is-helping-criminal-scammers-enslave-people/ Those of you in favor of what is happening to USAID right now need to give up the pretense that you care about child trafficking. -
I’ll do the best I can.

Why Trump’s Rapid Fire News Releases are Breaking the Democrats Narrative System

I don’t mind cutting corruption and waste. But this program has done a lot of good. 25 million lives saved in Africa alone. I can’t get past that no matter what arguments you make. -
No because Obama didn’t publicize it and announce he was coming for them too.
-
Because it’s scaring a lot of good people (by that I mean nonviolent undocumented people.)

Well yeah. 25 million lives from PEPFAR alone: https://apnews.com/article/usaid-hiv-humanitarian-assistance-disease-spending-20f9cb969ffb6773e57886e34bf69165#:~:text=Known as one of the, million lives%2C largely in Africa. -

I’m not sure what kind of analogy you’re referring to. In this case we’re shutting down a program that saved millions of lives around the world. What did Biden do that was analogous to that? How does shutting it down help fix the country? I’m honestly trying to understand your position but I don’t get it. -
The Trump administration is on a pace to match half of Biden’s deportation numbers in 2024, and it won’t be close to the number of people deported under Obama, impressive! But at least you guys are having fun scaring the hell of people. That part is certainly happening.

Not with regard to USAID. Unfortunately he moved far too fast on this one. The damage has been done and it will take years to fix even if we (hopefully) decide to reverse it. -
