The truth is far more complicated than this simplistic statement.
-
lol Trump takes your stuff all the time. Republicans and Democrats take your stuff. Are you seriously suggesting that anyone who votes to “take your stuff” is a Communist? Better go live on an island. I can’t speak for others but I don’t condemn people based on their friendships. Only on statements and actions. If you can find me a statement by Mamdami that praises the actions of radical Islamic terrorists I will change my mind about him.
-
Also one further contradiction: your claim that Mamdani is both a traditional Muslim (meaning a radical Islamist) and a Communist. Both cannot be true; they contradict each other. Actually neither is true but I wanted to point out the additional flaw in your argument.
-
1. I already responded to your first argument. 2. Any quick study of modern history (19th and 20th century) will tell you that (a) Democratic socialism and Communism are violently opposed to each other (b) Democratic socialism was decisive in defeating the Soviet Union and worldwide communism and (c) Democratic socialism, as a group of ideas, can exist and thrive in a western capitalist society and actually at times improve it.

"No Kings" Day 2.0. Revised estimate 5.5 million, with an upper bound of 8.7 million.

Great post -
I could easily make the same argument against traditional Christianity or Judaism. IMO society tends to thrive most the more it rejects traditional religious constraints- see the Enlightenment. That being said, nearly every Muslim community on Earth has charities that provide for the poor, the sick, the old. They are huge on community and I can personally state that their hospitality is incredible. Like so many other groups they are, in person, warm people and heavily family oriented. Have you been to a Muslim wedding? I have. It’s an amazing, beautiful affair. To your point- they have not been good at governing themselves. That’s an understatement. There are many complicated historical reasons for this; I think the main one is that there was no reformation of the Muslim religion, no Martin Luther. But there are other reasons as well, too many to get into in this post. Bottom line: I strongly reject the argument that individual Muslims cannot successfully integrate into western society. This is demonstrably false.
-
Sigh. 1. You’re correct that traditional Islam doesn’t agree with western civilization. Neither does traditional Christianity. But both individual Christians and Muslims do fine with it. Mamdani is one of these. 2. You’re correct that traditional Islam is anti-woman and anti-gay. So is traditional Christianity. But many individual Christians and Muslims are not anti-either. Mamdami is one of these. 3. What I love is treating people as individuals and not condemning them all based on group affiliation. As you know I despise most MAGA ideas. But most individual MAGA people I meet are good folks. 4. The bigotry part is not your rejection of certain ideas and beliefs, it’s your flawed condemnation of people for their supposed religious or cultural affiliations. Mamdami is a Muslim and a Democratic socialist. He is not anti-woman, not anti-gay, not anti-western civilization, and not a Communist. When you condemn him for these things you are expressing, IMO, an ignorant, bigoted attitude.

I understand the point, but it’s different than cheering it on.

I think head coach is somewhat overrated in the NFL. In order to win consistently and be relevant in the playoffs, you need above all else to have one of the elite quarterbacks. Theres only about 5-6 of these. Without one of those guys it doesn’t matter who your coach is.
-
That’s your prerogative. I don’t agree with you, I think it’s an awful, bigoted opinion on your part, but you do you. It still doesn’t explain why, if Mamdami wins this election, you want the people of New York City to suffer.

Why is this funny to you?

"All Clowns" Day 2.0, Organizers: "More than 25 million people at 2700+ protests in all 50 states" lol

I think you enjoy having this “I couldn’t care less” stance. But the facts are that you DO post time to time about political issues, frequently enough for me to notice. And you start plenty of threads about political issues. Nothing wrong with that, I do the same. 100% of the posts you offer about politics are extremely conservative or aligned with MAGA. Which is fine. But when you claim that you’re not MAGA or a Trumper, then it’s reasonable for anyone to be skeptical of this based on your posts. -
I don’t understand people who want to see others suffer because of their voting choices. American farmers overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump last year. And now, because of Trump’s trade policies, they are suffering big time. I hate it.

Trump denies Ukraine Tomahawk missiles, urges both sides to ‘stop the war immediately’

Actually, at Munich, Chamberlain simply agreed to give up the Sudetenland without even consulting Czechoslovakia; he only informed them a few hours later. So at this point I’m inclined to disagree with you. Trump hasn’t gone that far (at least not yet.) We are still in the summer of 1938 in terms of the timeline analogy. We haven’t gotten to fall…yet. -
U.S. Military and boat strikes thread - Was The Follow-Up Boat Strike a War Crime?

I don’t think they need to ask @TimHauck for permission. However they ARE supposed to consult with Congress, specifically with John Thune, Chuck Schumer, Mike Johnson, and Hakan Jeffries. They’re supposed to meet with these 4 in a closed room and present their evidence prior to any use of our military. This is the way it’s always been done throughout our history. There is not a single President who did not do this until now. -

It’s important to note that, under pressure from Trump, Zelenskyy has already made a major concession: he is willing to accept peace based on freezing the current military situation. That means, effectively, giving up most of eastern Ukraine permanently to Russia. But he will not agree to give up the rest of Donbas, the main engine of Ukraine’s economy and the land Putin really wants and has failed to seize militarily. -

Sorry that’s all I have as they just broke the story. But since it’s their leading headline I suspect it will be reported elsewhere shortly. Per the story, the sources are unnamed diplomats who attended the meeting. -

A lot of MAGA is critical of Trump over the Epstein stuff. That doesn’t indicate you’re not MAGA. Do you have examples of opposing Trump on any actual policy? -

100% of your political posts suggest otherwise. -
Mamdani is going to win (he’s ahead by 20+ points) and I suspect he’s going to be a pretty effective mayor. He will have no power to push through most of his socialist proposals which will force him to govern as a moderate Democrat. I watched some clips of him on Fox News. He still has many ideas that I profoundly disagree with but he comes off as likable, very smart, and a good guy. I like him.

Probably. It shows how obsessed these MAGA types are with what happened Saturday. Deep down they KNOW what it meant. So they have to find ways to tear it down. -

Per the Washington Post: not only did Trump refuse to give Ukraine the tomahawks, he urged Zelenskyy to give up the entire Donbas region (Putin’s demand) to have peace or face destruction. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/10/20/zelensky-trump-meeting-europe-russia/ I was going to write “unbelievable” but frankly it’s all too believable. We have Nevile Chamberlain in charge. -

A little more complicated for Trump, He wants a peace deal, he wants Putin to win, and he wants the American people and the world to love Donald Trump for achieving it. -

I believe that Trump, like Biden before him, is wrong here. Giving these missiles to Ukraine will not escalate the war; it will force Putin to get serious about a peace deal. Right now Putin is not serious; in his phone call with Trump last week he once again demanded full control of the same territory he has failed to seize through arms, just as he did three months ago. -
Israel Gaza thread- is the peace agreement still in effect?
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Absolutely. Every member of Hamas deserves to be killed and the world would be a better place. But this won’t happen. Like Isis and the Taliban it is very difficult to kill off Hamas because ultimately it’s an idea, like Communism or Nazism. In this case the idea is that conditions are so hopeless for the Palestinian people that the only solution is the mass murder of their enemies. That idea cannot be eradicated unless you have a viable, economically productive land of Palestine. And that’s a long way off.
