You were proven completely wrong in your claim that Trump cares about the difference between documented and undocumented immigrants, but you don’t care. Big surprise. While I do care that the Haitian refugees are legal, I also want to emphasize that it doesn’t mean mass deporting of undocumented immigrants is OK either. It isn’t. It will never happen but frankly even the attempt is immoral and un-American.

My point wasn’t that those programs aren’t available, it’s that most undocumented immigrants don’t take advantage of them because they’re naturally fearful of contact with the authorities.

As far as this part goes I’m not opposed. But I would point out that this is already the way it is for almost all undocumented immigrants.

You did use the end in reality since it was in the early 1920s that all immigration basically stopped. Ellis Island was still open (my father came there in 1950) but it was tightly controlled.

Well the total population in 1880 was 50 million. Over the next 40 years we took in 20 million people- that’s 500,000 a year. Adjusting for population that means that nowadays we should take in 3 million people a year. I can live with that. Deal?

I love immigration. I love the message on the Statue of Liberty. I love the Constitution. I love our system of government and detest people like Trump who attempted to subvert it. He deserves to be prison and I predict he’s headed there in a couple of years. But first he gets to lose the election. After justice is served we can discuss some of the other issues you have raised. For example the growth of bureaucracy is a reasonable topic to be concerned with. But first things first: Harris needs to win and Trump needs to be prosecuted and we need to wipe the stain of MAGA away.
