VP Debate: Vance vs Walz
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
You seem like a very smart guy. But your defense of Trump and Vance lying about Springfield- that basically it’s OK because it highlights other problems caused by the Haitians being there- is really shameful IMO. -

Wait- do you think the 2020 election was actually won by Donald Trump? Yes or no? Please don’t equivocate. -
Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

Well you should. But that’s up to you. -

Nope. So long as she wins I don’t care. If Trump wins a lot of people who voted for him will forever hang their heads in shame. But I won’t be one of them. -

Not expecting a lot out of Walz tonight. He doesn’t seem like much of a debater. I hope to be pleasantly surprised. Vance on the other hand is slick and well spoken. He also oozes slime and his policies are so awful. Hes also a scumbag for generating Trump’s lies about Haiti. -

It’s really incredible that they could write a letter stating concern about mental conditions and then endorse Donald Trump. Just embarrassing for them. -

Mine too! Just kidding…sort of… -
And in turn I find the conservative response to always be go in shooting and worry about it later on. Without fail you guys always want the most aggressive option.

I already did.

This ain’t close to being true.

Right now the vast majority of Israelis live their lives the way that Americans do: you go to work, you pick up your kids from school, you get home at night, you can relax, have fun on weekends, etc. The vast majority have not had their lives interrupted by terrorism. The vast majority can afford to live comfortably and safely. This is not the way it was during the first 30 years or so of Israel’s existence. Back then, in the 50s and 60s, inflation was terrible- up to 30% every year. Overcrowding was terrible. Unemployment was awful. And war constantly threatening- not missiles or terrorism but actual war with armies invading supported by the Soviet Union. No allies in Egypt or Jordan. Very little help from the United States. So yes it could get far worse. Let me offer a very real possibility- Jordan, which has a peace treaty with Israel is filled with Palestinian refugees (and in actuality the Jordanians are Palestinians themselves). The king is overthrown by a group sympathetic to Hamas and Hezbollah, giving the Israels 3 hostile fronts instead of two. Then Egypt also becomes hostile giving Israel 4 hostile fronts. Then Syria becomes an active enemy again giving Israel 5 fronts. Then the radicals in Saudi Arabia rise up and overthrow their government, which would force the USA to return heavy to the Middle East. Get worse? Oh focking yeah it could.

Again I offer you the analogy of Vietnam though you refuse to take it. Israel cannot win this war. They can win battles. But the battles they win only enmesh them more and may in the long run make things even worse.

Death Pool Update: John Amos at 84...
The Real timschochet replied to posty's topic in The Geek Club
What a terrible week -
That’s easy. We would bomb the crap out of the country, invade, spend trillions of dollars, lose thousands of military, occupy the place for 20 years, and then leave having accomplished absolutely nothing and the folks we kicked out in the first place would be right back in charge.

It is a stupid question. If asked all he has to say is “look I’m for rights for transgender folks. I’m not looking to hide that fact. But I also don’t think, with all the issues going on that affect most Americans, this is a subject that should be top of the list to discuss tonight, whether you agree with me or not. So can we move on?” -
I don’t disagree but I’m still convinced that your solution is the obvious correct one. And of course you didn’t mention that Iran is basically a nuclear nation at this point. I don’t know what the solution is. I’m not sure that Biden has acted correctly here. I’m not sure that Harris will be able to handle this. But I do believe three things: 1. I don’t trust Netanyahu’s motives. 2. I don’t trust Donald Trump’s competence if he is elected again. 3. I don’t think Israel can ever win this struggle through military means.
-
I don’t mean to. But the circumstances are quite different. The Putin situation is analogous, IMO, to the years before World War II. The Israel situation, on the other hand, is closer to our struggle in Vietnam, or Britain in India/Pakistan, etc.
-
The effect on the world economy (and eventually ours) could be disastrous.
-
Hopefully this is just a face saving move so that Iran and Hezbollah can say “look we struck back.” And that things will calm down. We will see.

This is bad. This is very very bad.

Every state that’s not New York or California, or certain parts of Florida, is a flyover state. Why deny it? We’re simply better than the rest of you, it’s not a political thing. It’s just culture. What little your savage minds have of it you get it from us. We are your rulers and we don’t come to you unless you have something to offer like a beach during winter time. Even Trump knows this. You think he’s moving to Nebraska? -
So sick of this crap. You know what Springfield shows? Hatred, intolerance and fear. And the sickness of MAGA. Like this story: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/springfield-ohio-haitians-death-threats-b2621689.html Every Trump supporter should be forced to read that. And if you still support what he’s doing, you should bow your head in shame.
