Trump WILL have to deal with this if the price of eggs continues to go through the roof. He won’t be able to ignore it.

If this happens it will make it easier for immigrants to catch and eat them.

The only objection I have to this post is when you wrote: “I’m sure that’s acceptable where she is from.” You don’t know that and frankly I doubt it. Rude behavior is pretty much rude behavior everywhere. You encountered a rude person, not a representative of any culture. Most people in ALL cultures are courteous.

No I don’t think you’re a racist. I believe in American culture too- meaning free enterprise, individual freedom, the principles enshrined in our Constitution and Declaration of Independence, etc. I want people of all races and cultures to come here and accept those principles. If they don’t then they shouldn’t be here. I think we can agree on that.

I do think that @Death is correct to the extent that there are people around Trump who are concerned that whites are becoming a minority in this country and are seeking ways to maintain white dominance, through measures like clamping down on immigration, making it more difficult for minorities to vote, etc: in other words white nationalism. I also think the hostility towards CRT and DEI are rooted in these racist fears. But though Trump definitely shares these bigoted beliefs, he’s probably far too self-centered, incompetent, and focused on personal slights to truly carry them out. Nonetheless we need to be wary of the Stephen Miller types around him…

There is a big difference between start clean up immediately (they should) and rebuild immediately (they shouldn’t.) Also your narrative is off- this isn’t a partisan issue. Newsom wants to rebuild immediately, Bass wants to slow things down a little. Bass IMO is correct; Newsom is not, and Trump is completely ignorant on the facts (as usual.)

Well first toxicity. We can’t even get back onto Sunset Blvd yet so we have no idea what we’re talking about. Second- right now the insurance companies are reluctant to offer new polices in the region. Some of them are looking at bankruptcy. Before we rebuild it’s likely the state is going to have to give some kind of guarantee on future insurance, and that sort of legislation could take a long time. Given the fact that this country has had more natural disasters in the last ten years than in that 100 years before that combined, we may need to revamp the entire insurance industry before we can spend billions of dollars rebuilding. Most important of all: do we simply want to rebuild what we had or do we want a more planned community that will be safer from these fires? I don’t know. I don’t see how ANYONE can know the answer to this vital question at the moment. I think we need to think about it. I think we need to be careful. That’s all I’m saying.

Not a fan of Bass at all but she’s right about this. We need to be very careful before we rebuild. Palisades especially. This has to be thought out.

While I think it’s important to keep a close eye on all this stuff I’m not especially concerned yet. I’m much more concerned about decisions with immediate consequences such as tariffs, the deportation plans, cutting off aid to Ukraine, etc. than I am about this stuff. I also hope his decisions with regard to the CDC and the WHO, which to me seem rooted in retribution over Covid, don’t come back to bite us, especially if the bird flu thing gets more serious…
