It’s not a defense I am making, it’s what the fire chief says. Personally Im not enough of an expert to say. And despite what people may think I don’t have a political axe to grind here. If it could have made a difference and if somebody screwed up I’d like to know and hold them accountable.

The Santa Ynez Reservoir in Palisades, which was offline, is not owned or managed by the State of California, but instead by LA County Department of Water and Power. So anyone who attacks Newsom for this is uninformed. 2. Your message deserves to be disapproved and condemned. It does not deserve to be censored. Thats what you don’t seem to understand about free speech. Free speech protects your right to be ignorant and hateful. You certainly spend a lot of time exercising that right.

No. And it’s a terrible analogy. The Jan 6 riot was a deliberate act of violence against our nations Capitol. Police were physically attacked. Of course such an event is likely to result in deaths. It wasn’t a peaceful gathering like the Bills game.

Back to the fire. In terms of evaluating state government performance (which seems to be what most people here care about) I think we need to divide it into two categories: before the fire (preparation) and during the fire. There is a whole lot of criticism about what happened or what didn’t happen before the fire. I think that a lot of it is bogus (delta smelt, sending equipment to Ukraine, preferring diversity over competence, etc.) and some of it may have real merit (cutting spending on fire preparation, lower amounts of water, etc.) We really won’t know the answers to this without a thorough examination of what went wrong. That will take place, but unfortunately both sides will predictably attempt to focus on the narrative that suits them the best. Since the fire began, however, I think the government has performed very well, particularly Newsom. Bass less so; she seems to be preoccupied with deflecting blame which is never a good look.

OK. Well we disagree then; I think the conclusion that this riot caused several deaths which would not have occurred if the riot hadn’t occurred is reasonable and not an agenda driven narrative.

Or maybe the bipartisan Senate committee did. But I didn’t make any legal claim. I didn’t ask for anyone to be prosecuted for causing death. I used the phrase “caused deaths” in a general sense which I think is correct. We’re not in a court of law here.

I think decent people should hate bigotry, anti-semitism, and cheering for bad things to happen, and I think we should try to divide ourselves from those who pursue such things. So I suppose you’re right.

Once again you misunderstand me. Calling people out isn’t important to me; I’m not begging for it. I only note it because the failure to do so takes away credibility from those here who regard themselves as conservatives. You guys constantly bridle at being grouped in with racists and bigots and jerks who cheer on the fire but as long as you tolerate such people in your midst you’re going to be painted with a broad brush and you should expect it. And this is the same problem you have when you chose to elect a guy like Trump who is all of these things as well. (He hasn’t cheered on the fire but he might has well have given his remarks.) As far as not giving these folks attention- we’ll never know if not doing so would be effective or not because all too many conservatives here are cheering these losers on, responding positively to their posts, conversing with them like normal, etc.

Three guys here now rooting for the fire and not one conservative here calls them out on it. In this forum, you can be a bigot, a racist, an anti-Semite, you can root for fires, you can wish for people to die or their loved ones to be raped- and so long as you’re perceived as a conservative nobody will ever call you out. In fact more often than not they’ll cheer you on. What a disgusting group.
