I’d like to think that no matter what happened to me and my loved ones I’d be able to keep my logic and not blame a group for the actions of an individual. But who knows? Bigotry and snap judgments are easy. Decency and nuanced thinking is hard.

This breaks my heart. I haven’t discussed it here, and I won’t get into any details, but I’ve spent the last several months working with World Relief and WelcomeCorps helping a refugee family near me. It was all volunteer work, I spent my own time and money helping the family find an apartment, work, medical, get the kids in school, etc. My whole family chipped in. I wanted to do something more than simply donate money to causes I believe in; I wanted to play a part. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. Now that is all done. With a stroke of the pen President Trump has cancelled the entire program. I’m sure many of you, like @Strike, think this is good news. I find it terribly sad and shameful. This is not what the USA is supposed to be about. It’s not in keeping with the Statue of Liberty. It’s a disgrace IMO. Hopefully, one day soon we’ll find our way again. Some of us will keep fighting for it.

One of your main flaws (there are many) is that you believe that it’s only liberals who reject your nutty conspiracy theories. It isn’t. Sane conservatives and independents also think this stuff is off the deep end.

Agreed that we need to start fresh but the way to do that is to grant amnesty to most of those already here. By doing that we don’t disrupt current prices and we create revenue by making these people legal and paying income taxes. Then we can regulate who comes in next. But what Trump is proposing here (deporting millions and coming up with a guest worker plan afterwards, maybe) is insane. It will never work. Even to try seriously will cause intense chaos (which is why I think this is all for show.)

Some of Biden’s other policies helped drive prices up but I didn’t complain about them because I believed they were necessary to extricate us out of the bigger crisis of the COVID economy. I still believe that and think that he was successful, and will go down in history as a successful President.

Biden’s tariffs drove prices up and I complained about them. Trump’s tariffs will be way worse.

You seem to think these tariffs will be an alternative to income tax. I don’t think that’s happening.

Cave how? We have free trade agreements with Canada and Mexico- Trump renegotiated them himself. What are you expecting them to do now? Trump’s vague demand is that they help us with border control. No specifics offered. That’s why this is madness.

Even if you don’t care, most people will. And if most people are hurt by this then you won’t be able to escape being negatively affected yourself. That’s how trade inevitably works.
