My hometown of Huntington Beach has just declared itself a “non-sanctuary city” https://ktla.com/news/local-news/huntington-beach-declares-itself-a-non-sanctuary-city/amp/ We are a little bastion of Vichy in our otherwise blue state. So proud!

The Nomination Questioning Of Hegseth
The Real timschochet replied to BunnysBastatrds's topic in The Geek Club
Truth be told we’ve had drunks in charge of the military before. Ulysses Grant didn’t do a bad job… -
Oh I will. What’s ironic is that though things are sad for me politically, my personal life just gets better and better.

Official Donald J. Trump 2025 Inauguration Thread
The Real timschochet replied to Gepetto's topic in The Geek Club
Laken Riley. And I might feel different if that were the case. I’d like to think that no matter what happened to me and my loved ones I’d be able to keep my logic and not blame a group for the actions of an individual. But who knows? Bigotry and snap judgments are easy. Decency and nuanced thinking is hard. -
This breaks my heart. I haven’t discussed it here, and I won’t get into any details, but I’ve spent the last several months working with World Relief and WelcomeCorps helping a refugee family near me. It was all volunteer work, I spent my own time and money helping the family find an apartment, work, medical, get the kids in school, etc. My whole family chipped in. I wanted to do something more than simply donate money to causes I believe in; I wanted to play a part. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. Now that is all done. With a stroke of the pen President Trump has cancelled the entire program. I’m sure many of you, like @Strike, think this is good news. I find it terribly sad and shameful. This is not what the USA is supposed to be about. It’s not in keeping with the Statue of Liberty. It’s a disgrace IMO. Hopefully, one day soon we’ll find our way again. Some of us will keep fighting for it.

Workforce Trump administration to lay off all federal employees in DEI offices 🌈
The Real timschochet replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
DEIDS stands for DEI Derangement Syndrome. It’s a the new pandemic, rampant among conservatives these days. There appears to be no cure. -
Liberals, you don't want to see this video
The Real timschochet replied to Frozenbeernuts's topic in The Geek Club
One of your main flaws (there are many) is that you believe that it’s only liberals who reject your nutty conspiracy theories. It isn’t. Sane conservatives and independents also think this stuff is off the deep end. -
This will never happen.

Senate passes immigrant detention bill that could be first measure Trump signs into law
The Real timschochet replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
Nobody has a problem with deporting violent criminals. -
Agreed that we need to start fresh but the way to do that is to grant amnesty to most of those already here. By doing that we don’t disrupt current prices and we create revenue by making these people legal and paying income taxes. Then we can regulate who comes in next. But what Trump is proposing here (deporting millions and coming up with a guest worker plan afterwards, maybe) is insane. It will never work. Even to try seriously will cause intense chaos (which is why I think this is all for show.)

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Oh but he’s not the only one. @Horseman, @Hardcore troubadour, a few others. I have a whole fan base. -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Well there must be some other reason then. You come off like an obsessed fan. It’s not healthy, -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Yesterday @Strike bumped one of his own posts tagging me because a few hours had gone by and I hadn’t yet responded. So frigging desperate. -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
So funny to me that the usual suspects who are always saying that nobody cares about my opinions are the same ones who respond to almost every one of my posts, and when I haven’t posted in a while, tag me. -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Then why do you mention my opinions and tag me? -
Here come the tariffs

Some of Biden’s other policies helped drive prices up but I didn’t complain about them because I believed they were necessary to extricate us out of the bigger crisis of the COVID economy. I still believe that and think that he was successful, and will go down in history as a successful President. -
Here come the tariffs

Biden’s tariffs drove prices up and I complained about them. Trump’s tariffs will be way worse. -
Here come the tariffs

I don’t believe either will happen in our lifetimes -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
You seem to think these tariffs will be an alternative to income tax. I don’t think that’s happening. -
Here come the tariffs

Cave how? We have free trade agreements with Canada and Mexico- Trump renegotiated them himself. What are you expecting them to do now? Trump’s vague demand is that they help us with border control. No specifics offered. That’s why this is madness. -
Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Even if you don’t care, most people will. And if most people are hurt by this then you won’t be able to escape being negatively affected yourself. That’s how trade inevitably works. -
Yes!! https://www.iea.org/news/a-new-era-for-nuclear-energy-beckons-as-projects-policies-and-investments-increase This article calls for an investment of 240 billion. But that’s cheap compared to the potential return. Why isn’t Trump talking about this? Why hasn’t he said one word about it? I and many other liberals would support him if he did. (Well at least I would.) I would also love to see a Manhattan Project like effort to pursue nuclear fusion. What is more important? Nothing.
