You’re correct that laws are what makes us a civilized society. You’re also correct that you can’t just pick and choose. But what if a law is truly immoral to you? William Lloyd Garrison, the famous abolitionist, was faced with this question following the Dred Scott decision and he answered it by setting fire to a copy of the Constitution, an act of civil disobedience. Such acts are part of our American heritage, dating back to the Boston Tea Party. And no I am not arguing that there are any existing current laws that are so immoral that they demand disobedience. But it could happen. Of course my Anne Frank analogy earlier was way over the top, deliberately so. Still, if somebody from ICE had reason to come to me and ask me to name people that I know who are undocumented, and where they currently live, I wouldn’t do it. Even under the threat of arrest I wouldn’t do it.

The most important reason I voted for Kamala Harris, above all others, is her support for Ukraine, the NATO Alliance, and adherence to the U.S. role as leader of the free world in the global structure we established after World War II. I do not believe in Trump’s brand of America First isolationism, and his transactional way of treating our allies.

If Trump avoids all new wars during his term I will certainly applaud him for that. But declaring the Mexican cartels as terrorists and pledging to take back the Panama Canal seem inconsistent with that goal.

Because we’ve had this argument a million times. I disagree with you. You’re wrong, IMO. What’s the point of discussing it further? Also the pride you take in never suggesting people should ignore legislation is really dumb. If a law seems immoral to me I’m not gonna obey if possible. I don’t have any current examples, but 60 years ago I would have fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam War.

You didn’t answer the question. @RLLD stated that by removing birthright citizenship, President Trump is trying to make things better for the American people. He also stated that liberals fighting to retain birthright citizenship are doing so because they want the American people to suffer. I would like an explanation of both assertions.
