Thanks but I wasn’t looking for plaudits. I wish I could do more. That program was terrific. My entire family volunteered to help out this Afghan family- we found them an apartment, got the kids into school, helped them get Snap, helped the parents find work. We still see them, still help them out as much as we can. It’s probably the most rewarding experience of my life.

No big deal? It’s not nearly enough. The average rate I pay day laborers is around $60 an hour. It’s gone up from $50 in the last year. Not that it’s at all relevant to this discussion.

I don’t think he understands anything about this. Last year I helped a family of refugees from Afghanistan obtain SNAP benefits. (I was a part of Welcome Corp, a wonderful Biden program for refugees which Trump killed.) The amount of paperwork to get the SNAP benefits was long and exhausting. Birth certificates, certified health records, I-94 papers. There is no way any undocumented immigrant can get these. It’s a total lie. This family of that I worked with 5 received $1600 a month in total benefits. That’s all. And you guys think people are taking advantage of this?

You have a strange idea of what defines “bad person”. I have no idea if I’m a bad person or not, though I’d like to think I’m not. My family and close friends assure me that I’m a very good person so I think I’ll take their word for it over yours. But then who is to say for sure?

I’m right about 80% of the time. Not great, not terrible either. But in this case I don’t predict anything about Vance except that he’s not a viable Presidential candidate. He may very well be the nominee but that doesn’t tell us much because the strong odds are 2028 will be a Democratic win no matter what.

Your correction doesn’t help you. It’s just as dumb. First off the money isn’t “taken” from us. We give it as part of the social contract of our democratic system. And it’s spent by elected officials whom we choose to be there and if we don’t like how it’s spent, we can elect others. Because it’s still our money. That’s how it works in a free country. We don’t live in a dictatorship however much you and other MAGA types think we do or should. You would know all of this already if you had taken a basic civics lesson. Republicans believe that when the SNAP benefits end on November 1, the public will blame Democrats and the Dems will quickly surrender. Democrats believe that when the new health care premiums for ACA hit on November 1, the public will blame Republicans and the GOP will quickly surrender. Guess we’ll find out. Personally I see it as a game of Russian Roulette except that there are two bullets in the gun, and after the first guy shoots himself in the head, the second guy has to keep playing.

I think it will happen this time because Trump wants to leave the summit being congratulated as a deal maker. It’s all he cares about- not the deal itself but that he gets applauded. The Gaza deal is already falling apart but he doesn’t care, he got his day in the sun.

Reagan was right about immigration and right about tariffs. Trump’s insecure ego can’t handle this.
