I’m not OK with it. I don’t like the whole pardon power. I think that any connection between the person pardoned and the President , whether it’s family or someone who worked for the President or a donor, etc, ought to be immune from pardons.

No you’re wrong and your worn out example of the 50 million dead Russians is really tiresome, because there is no comparison between Affirmative Action and anything the Soviets did. Even to bring it up is just laughable. Let’s take two examples: EXAMPLE ONE A company decides it doesn’t want to have any black employees, so it doesn’t hire any. All it does is hire white people. EXAMPLE TWO A company decides it would like to have some racial diversity and some black employees. So if and when two employees of equal ability are interviewed, one white and one black, it leans towards hiring the black employee. That being said , the vast majority of employees in the company are white and that’s probably not likely to change for years or forever. But the company is actively trying to do SOMETHING, to make an impact. Example One is clearly racism. Example two is not. Can you really not see the difference? You may disagree with example two, you may argue that such a program doesn’t work because it creates both bad results and resentment. Those are reasonable arguments against example two. But it’s not racism. No bigotry or discrimination is intended.

Between your two choices it’s ignorant, in that I honestly believe what I’m writing. I’m not trying to troll you or anyone. @Strike is wrong; affirmative action is not a form of racism. The intent was not to discriminate against whites but to give those of color greater opportunity. Intent is everything. @Maximum Overkill is wrong; the bigotry against Italians and Irish had to do with their ethnicity not their skin color. I’m absolutely right about this. History bears me out.

I meant organized, systemic, by the state. DEI isn’t racism; there has never been organized racism against white people.

Not sure why you would choose to bring me up regarding this topic. I’ve been very clear: transgender women should not be allowed to compete in girls sports. Period. On other issues regarding trans I tend to be woke and accepting- I don’t think it’s a mental disease, I’m for allowing them to use the bathrooms of their choice, I don’t think the state should be involved in gender affirming treatment etc. etc. and I reject totally the conservative anti-trans hysteria. But on this one issue I find myself on the conservative side.

And yet you choose to comment on it. Even start a new thread about it. Several of you around here sure seem to spend a whole lot of time declaring very loudly how uninteresting everything I post has been. It’s a little hard for me to understand, because whenever I’m not interested in something I just ignore it. I certainly don’t spend my time discussing my lack of interest.

I have a higher opinion of humanity than you do. I think poverty, lack of education, along with fear that change will take away what you have are the main sources of pettiness, vengefulness, jealousy, and bigotry. (Not to mention crime.) i think an almost infinitely cheap and unlimited energy source can solve a lot of those issues. As far as health, the technologies created are almost unimaginable at this point but I belong that unlimited energy will lead to unlimited funding to find cures and new vaccines. Of course I don’t foresee a world without problems; it’s just that they will be new problems that we’re not dealing with now. Think of it, historically, as a new Industrial Revolution, only a lot faster and even more impactful.

Difference between us on this topic: 1. I blame Israel when they deserve blame. (Doesn’t sound like, in this instance they do.) 2. You never blame Israel. The reason for this difference is simple: I am a thinker, and you are an ideologue.

The problem with this I’m not wrong. Some of my predictions are wrong. And sometimes I get facts wrong (not intentionally.) But my ideas are right. Especially as opposed to yours.
