It’s amazing that you guys want to defend Russia here. I can see arguing that we shouldn’t help Ukraine, we need to be neutral, etc. (these are bad, dumb arguments but I can see it). But actually defending Putin and Russia in this war? CheerIng these murderers on? No different from cheering on Hamas. You guys are shameful. Seriously.

Both of them 5 times as smart as you, and 10 times as smart as Tommy. (See? I gave you a compliment for once.) -
This is amazing..and wrong..and a good indicator showing everything wrong with our government.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency
The Real timschochet replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
US Senators competing with each other as to who can look more foolish: Lindsay Graham, that pillar of firm conviction, said yesterday that the accusations against Hegseth were “deeply concerning”. Today he says they “don’t count” because they’re all anonymous (they’re not.) Tommy Tuberville says there is no need for the Senate to vett Trump’s appointments because “Trump has already done it for us.” It’s impossible for me to believe that even a state like Alabama could elect a Senator as stupid as Tommy Tuberville. Democrats have had some pretty dumb politicians in the past- the late Sheila Jackson Lee comes to mind- but they usually do better when it comes to Senator. Tuberville, who was a pretty decent football coach (if a little one dimensional and old-fashioned) has got to be the dumbest Senator I’ve heard in my lifetime. -

I’m not OK with hiring less competent people. Please don’t put words in my mouth. The idea behind DEI is when making a choice between two equally qualified candidates select one that adds diversity. As I wrote I’m not in favor of this solution, but it does not result in hiring incompetent people. -

I wish your high school had been more representative of the entire country. Then we wouldn’t have had these problems. My own high school was 98% white, in Huntington Beach (Orange County.) I received a public school top level education. 30 minutes away, in North Long Beach, Compton, South Central, there were kids receiving an inferior education to mine. Books, facilities, teachers, none of it as good. And of course money doesn’t solve everthing. Of course parents are key. And if you come from a broken home or an abused childhood even an A+ school is unlikely to make a difference. I get all that. Still though the inequity does matter. I’ve been described here as a defender of DEI and I don’t even approve of it, because like Affirmative Action before it it attempts to address a problem at the end rather than the beginning. If you want equality of opportunity for all (and I think we all share that goal) then we have to provide equality of means which translates to education and community investment. DEI doesn’t really work, IMO. But again it’s a minor aspect of our culture and I’m sick of conservatives whining about it, the way you guys whine about undocumented immigrants and transsexuals as well. None of these are to blame for your problems in life. -

Dont even start with the “I’d rather planes crash” bullsh!t. The assumption that DEI leads to the hiring of people incompetent who are going to cause planes to crash is total crap. -

So sick of conservative whining about DEI. You guys are so lame. Here’s a hint: give minorities better education. Stop institutionalized racism. End white privilege. Then maybe we won’t need DEi. -
I’m listening. I don’t know enough about this topic to form an opinion. I’m trying to learn.

From a purely political viewpoint, I don’t think Biden should pardon any of these folks., if Trump actually orders his Justice Department to prosecute Fauci, or Schiff, or anyone else it’s just going to blow up in his face. There won’t be any convictions, and hopefully the public will be disgusted by the farce. Bring it on.

Congrats to those who have done well on this. But is it like a stock where you have to sell it to make money? Is now the time to sell or are you guys expecting it to keep going up?

Here come the tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Here is the libertarian solution: 1. No EV mandates. 2. No tariffs. See how simple that is? -
Sure! Has nothing to do with what you’re asking about but it’s my favorite from her latest album.

I’m going to let you in on something in case you didn’t know it already: When you disagree with me about political issues in this forum, there’s always going to be a lot of folks who will cheer you on. Thats because as a general rule, your political views are a lot more popular around here than mine are. So when we argue you’re always going to get likes, you’re always going to be surrounded by folks who join in your opinion. That doesn’t mean any of them like or respect you. My best guess is that they don’t. Because you’re on “their side”, they’re not going to openly criticize your absurdity and stupidity, but they’re appalled by it. You’re an embarrassment.

Hegseth police report
The Real timschochet replied to The Phantom's Phantom's topic in The Geek Club
Hegseth abruptly canceled all Senate meetings for tomorrow. -
Sure, mostly. But in this case you’re talking about a guy who has openly wished for my children to be raped, and for me to be “rounded up”. I think I can make an exception in his case.

Biden-Harris administration supporting minor transition
The Real timschochet replied to Frozenbeernuts's topic in The Geek Club
Well first off the FDA hasn’t banned these drugs so apparently according to them there is no concern about safety. And second, the FDA isn’t supposed to be a political body. I want the FDA making rules and regulations regarding health issues- state legislatures not so much. Finally you missed the main distinction: Tennessee isn’t banning these treatments. They’re only banning them under the age of 18. And that becomes problematic because of the question of parental consent. -
Biden-Harris administration supporting minor transition
The Real timschochet replied to Frozenbeernuts's topic in The Geek Club
The issue involved is actually bigger than transgenderism, from my understanding. When Tennessee made the ban they didn’t ban ALL gender affirming care, only for anyone under the age of 18. However, the plaintiffs here represented by the ACLU are adult parents who have given their permission for these procedures. So the question is whether the state has the right to take away medical procedures only for minors even if adult parents sign off on them. Which is, in my mind, a difficult question, even if I predict the post- Dobbs court will probably rule in Tennessee’s favor. Ironically it would have been more clear if Tennesee had simply made all gender affirming treatment illegal (but I sense that, among most conservatives, there is still a streak of libertarianism that prevents this no matter how opposed they are to trans.)
