You’re very patronizing. Poverty in different countries is relative to the rest of society. If people don’t have enough to feed their children without help I call that poverty. Is it the equivalent of poverty in Bangladesh? No. But it also isn’t Denmark either.

Very familiar with Larry Elder- I’ve read a few books by him too, and I used to call him now and then back in the 90s. When he was more libertarian and less of a Trumper, when he was the Sage from South Compton. Nice guy. But I disagree strongly with his POV on this subject. Carson I only know from his association with Trump.

My own theory is that this is due to cultural problems among blacks caused by years of institutional racism against them. I suspect that as a conservative you disagree with this theory? I’d so, how do you explain the discrepancy?

I understand that you believe that there is something inherently about black people that makes them more prone to committing crimes. But I’m more curious about how the non-racists here might explain this.

If it isn’t possible doesn’t that suggest that we do not live in a society with equal opportunity for all?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2023, there are 37 million Americans who live in poverty. That’s 11% of the population. Would you say that’s very little? In comparison Denmark has a poverty rate of 0.8%

First off did we win that war? I would say no. Second, did I define poverty? I don’t recall that I did. So you’re arguing against a straw man.

When you think of wealthy black people, do you automatically assume they must be rappers or NBA stars?

Same question for you as @iam90sbaby: suppose it was 100% black but same economic conditions: would it be a high violent crime area?

Do you believe that if it was 80% black but with the same economic conditions (highly wealthy) it would be high violent crime?

Absolutely. These are my people.

The point is this: 1. Liberal policies do not increase crime. 2. Conservative polices do not decrease crime. 3. We can argue the details over which specific policy makes more sense but there is no liberal or conservative “solution” to crime; the factors behind crime are bigger than either liberal or conservative politics.

In America, as in every other country, whenever there is poverty and overcrowding in one area (like a city) there is high crime. This is regardless of skin color or ethnic makeup or whether the city is run by a liberal or a conservative. It’s regardless of the age of the people living there. The only two factors that together consistently produce crime are poverty and overcrowding. Do you accept this to be true?

I will have to read more but based on what @TheNewGirl and @Strike are posting, I lean very much in favor. I want to protect undocumented immigrant children from being deported. I want to save as many as possible. Any legal action that achieves that is going to be something that I’m in favor of. And I have a feeling that the concerns about removing parental rights are overblown. Again I want to know more but based on what you’re telling me, sounds like a good thing.

Some people are being fired for saying “Charlie Kirk dead? Awesome! Let’s have more of this!” I’m good with that, I think we all should be good with such a response being condemned. However, some people are being fired for saying, “Charlie Kirk dead? Nobody deserves to be murdered, but this was not a good dude, he said some terrible offensive things, and himself encouraged or defended political violence against others”, etc. I’m not good with this person being fired. That’s not a “celebration”.
