The contrast they’re showing between how Trump handled Covid vs Biden and Harris is incredible. This alone should have made Trump ineligible for the White House ever again.

There are always a few tickets to be had if you know people. Not here. The demand is far greater. As I wrote the energy and excitement is off the charts.

There’s no contradiction between being an American and being a globalist. In fact globalism is what being an American is all about. We are the New World, we welcome immigrants from every country. There is no American race, no American ethnicity. We are an ideal in human society. The USA is the greatest country in human history specifically BECAUSE we embrace globalism.

It’s pretty easy to figure that out. When she made that threat, she hasn’t publicly called on him to drop out. Others had but for someone of her level to do so would have been a major embarrassment to Biden, akin to Barry Goldwater calling on Nixon to resign. It would have come to define Biden’s legacy. So that was obviously what the threat was.

No, my own media has reported exactly what I wrote and Dowd uses words and phrases and implications in her opinion piece I disagree with. If you have real evidence to contradict what I wrote please provide it.

I don’t believe that happened. If you or anyone can provide evidence that it did I will certainly reconsider my opinion on this entire matter. But as of now I don’t believe it. What Pelosi (and perhaps Obama) threatened to do was come forward publicly and call on Biden to withdraw. Up to that point they hadn’t done so. To do so would have been a major embarrassment to Biden. That’s what Pelosi meant by doing it “the hard way.” But it was still Joe’s decision.

Maureen Dowd uses the word “coup” rather liberally. In Latin America, a coup is when a leader is forced out by gunpoint, on pain of death, etc. In this case strong pressure was put on Biden to withdraw from the race, but in the end it was his decision. He wasn’t blackmailed, wasn’t threatened with anything other than embarrassment and potentially a spoiled legacy. Nothing illegal occurred. So the answer to the question of the title of this thread is still no, whatever Maureen Dowd thinks. There was no coup.

That long quote is a psychoanalyst’s dream. Trump is obsessed, as always, with his self-image, and everyone’s image. He agrees with Peggy Noonan that this election might come down to who the best looking candidate is.

This is a terrible order. In terms of honor (greatness?) it should be Black Sabbath first, then Metallica, then Iron Maiden which you didn’t mention. The other bands don’t medal.

Biden has been awful too. But no I’m talking about Trump’’s new proposed tariffs which will be far worse than any President has ever done, way worse than Smoot-Hawley which brought about the Great Depression. Seriously Phil- you strike me as a principled conservative and I respect that. We’re never going to see eye to eye on most issues because I admit to be a lily-livered pinko fellow traveling bleeding heart. Fair enough. But even you have to see how terrible Trump’s proposal on this is, how economically it swamps everything Kamala is trying to do. Kamala is your typical big city spending liberal- she will be like my wife in a shopping mall with a credit card run amok. But we can survive that. We can’t survive what Trump wants to do.

Even if you were right about this ( you’re not ) you fail to realize that Trump’s tariffs aren’t meant to be a temporary penalty designed to bring about fairer trading practices. If that was the case he wouldn’t install them on every country regardless of what their current trading practices are. He means for these to be permanent.

I don’t mind being called a neoliberal. Call me whatever floats your boat. I think it’s funny though that you acknowledge all the terms have changed but still call Kamala a Communist and somehow fail to see the contradiction. Whatever you want to call me, or her, here is what I know: a 10-20% tax on all imports will be an economic catastrophe of such proportions that all your criticisms against Kamala get thrown out the window. It’s like saying “I don’t like broccoli, so give me poison instead please.” It makes all of your arguments a joke.

And it’s so incredibly hypocritical for Trump supporters to call Kamala’s plans Communism while ignoring the elephant in the room which is Trump’s tariffs which are a much worse form of price control, and far more leftist and socialist than anything Kamala is proposing. It’s such a flaw in their argument that one can’t take them seriously.
