Lol well here’s the other thing, Jerry. What I think about this doesn’t make a bit of difference. I have no influence whatsoever regarding the Democratic Party and never will (and never want to either.) So maybe they’ll take your advice. Or not.

The wife loves that show but I just never could get into it. I like that actor though.

There’s a lot of things I think they did wrong and on some of them we probably agree. But none of it really matters, because in the end the Democrats are the OTHER PARTY. They may become more centrist next time around (which I personally would prefer) or they may go more leftist or they may stay the same. And none of it makes a whit of difference. If the public is happy with the economy 4 years from now the Republicans will win again. If the public is unhappy with the economy the Democrats will win. The formula is pretty simple. I admit it has taken me a while, really my whole life, to figure this out. What impressed me most about this election is that Trump ignored all of his advisors who told him to stay on track and appear moderate. Instead during the campaign he just kept saying crazier and crazier sh!t. A lot of it was truly embarrassing. In the end the public paid no attention. Per the exit polling, they voted for Trump because they didn’t like the current state of affairs and he was the alternative. Me, I was hung up on positive vs negative messaging and comparing Kamala’s positive rhetoric to JFK, Reagan and Obama. I forgot that all 3 of those were the alternative to the government that was then in power. Kamala was doomed because she wasn’t new, she was tied to Biden. So from now on when I look at Presidential elections I’m going to use a simple formula: 1. If things are perceived as going good, the party in power will be re-elected. 2. if things are perceived as going badly, the opposite party will win. 3. If one party has served for 8 years or longer it’s very likely the opposite party wins whether or not things are going good or bad, simply because after a while the public hungers for something new. And that’s it. Those 3 rules seem to work no matter what the specific policies are, no matter who is running.

They missed winning the election.

Hey @OldMaid good to have you back. You weren’t wrong. You were right. It was the public that got it wrong.

I doubt it. Because they don’t really want the consequences of this either. They want the show. If there is high profile coverage of a few thousand people being rounded up and deported (and especially if there is high profile coverage of liberals being outraged) that will be enough for most MAGA folks. Thats the win they’re looking for.

I think most of MSNBC’s audience is exhausted right about now and all the news (for them) is bad. So they don’t want to see it. They’ll turn it on again in a few months I suspect.

All for show. The MAGA folks are gonna love the show coming up in a few months. Liberals, including myself, are going to hate the show. We will scream, rightfully, about cruelty, and the MAGAS will enjoy the screaming and behave like a$$holes, basically. But in the end very little will change.

The folks here are going to love this. They will mock you for posting it. It’s what they’ve always wanted. But exit polling strongly suggests it’s not what the public wants. They voted for Trump because the price of eggs is too high. They didn’t vote to blow everything up, retribution, or any of the other crap Trump is talking about. Now if all of this other crap brings the price of eggs down then the public probably won’t care about it. But if it doesn’t there’s going to be a lot of buyers remorse.

Half the nation, apparently, is ready to vote for a man who has called for Milley to be executed. How the hell did we get here?

Dude I wrote that MAGA women in my experience weren’t that attractive. It wasn’t “ALL women the support Trump” and it was meant to be a joke anyhow (well somewhat.) I didn’t say anything about their mental capacity. I could however say a lot about your lack of it.

It doesn’t need a defense. He did nothing wrong. I strongly doubt even Trump would be stupid enough to order a prosecution over this. If he does you will get resignations all over the military and it will be a total embarrassment.

You’re actually not wrong about this. The minute they took away pre-existing conditions, they made universal healthcare inevitable. There is simply no means to have a private health care system in which everyone pays the same no matter what your pre-existing conditions are.

You’re the anti-American one, pissing all over the Statue of Liberty. Personally I probably won’t be hurt by Trump at all. In fact, I figure to get richer. But it sucks for the country.

Everything I wrote was true. Not my fault the public got suckered. Hopefully it won’t be as awful as it looks at the moment.

Demonization is defined as an exaggeration. Of course I attacked Trump and I will continue to do so. But I don’t think I exaggerated. Everything I wrote was accurate and based on direct statements he made. And you’ll notice I refrained from attacking Trump supporters. Other liberals did but I detest collectivization of any sort. Trump continues to attack whole groups of people. (Which is one reason I have defined him, quite accurately, as a bigot.)

Some of it made sense. But one of the things that did NOT make sense was “Democrats spent too much time demonizing their opponents.” Now personally I’m not a fan of demonizing anyone. But I’m forced to ask the question: if demonization doesn’t work for Democrats, why did it work for Trump? Trump called Harris a radical Communist and warned that her election would bring about the end of the United States. Trump lied about immigrants and refugees and demonized them constantly. He also spent a lot of time demonizing transgender folks. So why does that work for one side and not the other?

I also view Biden as somewhat similar to Harry Truman. When Truman left office his popularity rating was the lowest in American history. But today he is regarded as one of our very best Presidents.

It’s a little early yet but I strongly believe that history will view the Biden Presidency as a great success. The infrastructure bill alone is going to be a huge positive for this country. I have no doubt Trump and the Republicans will take credit for its good results.

Something else to consider too: these restrictions, if implemented, are going to raise ALL food prices. There is no way around that. They also involve more regulations and the Trump administration is all about deregulation. My thought is that even if RFK is approved by the Senate he won’t last long, because his aims are too much in conflict with the overall aims of the Trump team.
