Thanks but I really need a break from politics. I don’t like the way things are going. I need to clear my head of this stuff. Who knows? If Trump ends up doing good things maybe I’ll return a fan.

I’m offering my thoughts for a few days here and then there’s going to be a long break. Anyhow why do you care so much? You whine about my posting habits in multiple threads. Nothing better to do?

There appear to be lots of reasons why the Democrats lost. I’m sure Biden’s hubris had something to do with it. So did some contempt for woke. I disagree that it was bad campaign strategy because I’m not sure what more Harris could have done in 107 days, or how much differently she could have or should have run her campaign. I also think that her being a woman is still a limiting factor for many voters. But none of these are, IMO, the main reason that Trump won. That reason appears to be pretty simple: exit polling reports that 77% of voters are very unhappy with the state of our economy. I believe that is more perception than reality but it doesn’t matter. When that happens the incumbent political party loses. Always.

So listen up my conservative friends: you now have: 1. The President you wanted, elected by a mandate size majority. 2. A 53 member majority in the Senate. 3. Should be a majority in the House- not sure how big yet but everybody agrees the GOP will retain control. 4. A conservative dominated Supreme Court. 5. Most of the “RINO/establishment” Republicans are gone, retired, defeated. There will be true conservative types or Trump allies in almost all positions of power. In short, everything you guys have ever wanted. Now you have NO excuses, nobody to blame if things go badly. Bring it on. We can’t stop you. And at the end of this don’t complain about not being able to do something, like cutting spending, balancing the budget, dealing with immigration, etc. etc. Because this is your opportunity. Let’s see if you can make America great again.

There wasn’t any deception in the example you’re offering. What they did is repeat things that Trump had said and then offer the opinion that he is a fascist (nobody ever said “genocidal”, no idea where that came from). I disagree with that opinion but given some of Trump’s comments it’s not an unreasonable opinion to offer.

You may be right. But even if you are it’s temporary and we will eventually move forward. Kamala was right: we’re not going back. Trump and his fans don’t accept his but eventually they will.

Not necessarily. You’re right on most things of course but there are points we can find some common interests I suspect. Promoting nuclear energy is one example. It’s time a President got serious about that- maybe Trump is the guy. Next- if he can come up with a peace for Russia and Ukraine that is not a surrender for Ukraine that will be a tremendous achievement. If his threat of tariffs lead to better trade agreements rather than a trade war, as some here have argued, I will take that outcome. I am open to all of this. I doubt we’ll ever find common ground on immigration issues however.

I don’t believe he will try to stay in office. And if he does try I don’t believe the SCOTUS will back him. There will be an election in 2028 like always. Donald Trump is a lame duck. It will be interesting to see which Republican emerges as the front runner. I doubt Vance. I’m thinking DeSantis.

You know I’m just not a despondent kind of guy. I don’t like this outcome any more than you do but we’ll get through it. And who knows? It might turn out OK. I go into each new beginning with an open mind. As far as I’m concerned Donald Trump has a clean slate with me at the moment. There are things he can do that will gain my approval. We’ll see.

Yes I know all that. It’s gonna be ugly. But I still don’t see it as the end of our democracy.

I don’t think you read me correctly before. Or you’re confusing me with somebody else. I detest Donald Trump. I can’t believe he was re-elected. I believe he is a threat to this country’s well being for a large variety of reasons. But I never bought into the fascist argument.

That didn’t happen either.

1. There was no cheating in 2020. Get over it. 2. Packing the Supreme Court is a very stupid idea but it’s not unconstitutional. It can be done within the rules of the Constitution.

Present some evidence. How will we lose the Constitution? Will Donald Trump declare himself Fuhrer? Will there be an Enabling Act? What exactly do you think is going to happen? I watched Maddow tonight. I like her but right now she sounds paranoid and bitter. She thinks that Trump will try to turn our Congress into the Russian Duma which is a rubber stamp for Putin. Which seems ridiculous to me. The Duma as a parliament is only 30 years old and it was subject to terrible corruption even before Putin took power. It bears no resemblance to our Congress.

Many liberals like Maddow believe this. Apparently @squistion here does as well. I do not. Donald Trump is certainly a strong man type, certainly somebody who is willing to stretch the laws the achieve what he wants but we’ve had more than one President who did that. I’m not afraid of losing our constitution. I’m much more concerned about his incompetence to be honest with you. I don’t think he’s good at being President. But he was elected so I wish him well.

I hope for the best. I don’t approve of most of Trump’s stated plans (that’s putting it mildly) but if he does them I hope it brings us prosperity. I really can’t stand people who root against their country because the wrong guy was in charge.

I wasn’t referring to the speech but to the phone call, which is true of all those who lost the election in modern times. To this day Trump has never congratulated Biden for 2020. It’s amazing to me that any Trump fan could accuse anyone else of being a sore loser.

Didn’t she say “I called the President elect up and congratulated him”? I thought I heard that. The important thing is this: within less than 24 hours of the news that Trump won, Harris conceded. In all of our history, there’s only one person who refused to do this. Only one.

I thought it was a beautiful speech. I wish her well. Now we move on. Democrats need a centrist, someone not connected with the Biden administration, and, unfortunately, I suspect it has to be a guy because the country may just not be ready for a woman in the top role, unfortunately. I think that guy might be Josh Shapiro.

I don’t think it serves the nation well to pursue this. Just my opinion.

As always I am an optimist. So let’s see him do something about nuclear energy. That would go a long way with me despite my disagreement with President Trump on most issues.

I have no doubt that it will be tried. I don’t think it will get very far. And if it does it will be terrible for us. But we’ll see. I haven’t shown myself great at predictions lately…

So I’m open to the idea that the MSM is bias to Democrats, even to the point of being dishonest. But I don’t know where that leaves me because it’s not like I’m going to start getting my news from social media or right wing web sites. Despite my irritation and anger with Joy Reid, the fact is that I share most of her views on issues.
