Hey I’m curious about something: yesterday and today the Trump campaign has had a number of black surrogates on television, especially on Fox but also CNN, defending his statements about Kamala Harris at the NABJ. Are these people DEI hires?

Umm no, politically the “weird” thing has been a complete success and is only growing.

I started to get enthusiastic about her a couple of months ago when I heard her give some interesting interviews. Then, the day after Biden quit, I heard her first speech- and I thought “Reagan”: sunny and optimistic and she’s improved incredibly as a speaker since 2020. Then I heard more speeches and started to get really excited. I think she’s going to win, and I think she’s going to be a good President.

It’s not interesting. It’s stupid. And very weird. With regard to your earlier post I can’t find it. But I remember that I wanted to say that undocumented immigrants are a net benefit to the economy in the first generation, it’s not something we have to wait for. As one of many examples, they pour millions of dollars into Social Security without taking anything out- they’re helping to keep it afloat.

You’re making way too much out of what is simply a good description of the fact that Trump, Vance, and the MAGA crowd are outside what most people regard as normal and decent behavior.

Well here’s the thing: not every Marine and Yale grad wants to monitor pregnant women. And not every Marine and Yale grad wants people with children to have more voting power than those without. So yeah I think weird applies here.

It’s also being suggested that Putin agreed to this deal now because he was annoyed that Trump bragged that only he, Trump, could get these folks released and that he would do it without any trades. Putin does not like being told what to do. This was a very complicated deal involving several countries and sophisticated diplomacy. Per reporting, both Biden and Kamala were heavily involved and Biden relied on his personal relationships established over decades. Is it unreasonable for me to assume that Trump could not have gotten this deal accomplished?

German Chancellor Shultz: “I will do this for you, Joe Biden.” The implication being that he would not have done it for Trump. Trump has gone out of his way to alienate Germany and the rest of our NATO allies.

This is another problem for Trump at the debate. The minute that he attacks Kamala for the border she will ask “why did you brag about killing the border deal?” What’s he supposed to say? Will he offer @RaiderHaters Revenge’s argument about spending for Ukraine? Maybe he just won’t answer and say “that was a really nasty question! I don’t think I’ve ever been asked such a nasty question!” Seems to be his go-to.

Well for one thing if Trump stands down JD Vance becomes the nominee.

Conservatives and Harris doubters keep assuring us that what we are currently witnessing is a “honeymoon” phase for Harris, that things will normalize soon and Trump will take the lead again. And maybe this will happen. But what is going to change? Next week the VP pick, then the convention. That will all help Kamala. Then the debate if there is one. If Trump backs out that will help Harris too. If Trump debates her I think she will perform quite well based on her history. But even if she simply holds her own I can’t see that helping him. Without Biden in the race Trump has to convince suburban moms and centrist Republicans to vote for him. His base won’t do it. Will inflation and the border be enough to win? I have my doubts.

Unfortunately this isn’t true. He said he will “probably” debate her, refused to commit to the ABC debate, refused to commit to any date, and also said he could offer good reasons not to debate her.

Because that’s what Congress has done forever. We almost never have single issue bills. It’s been going on for 250 years and for you to complain about it now seems disingenuous to me.

Good I hope that Trump says he opposed it because he opposes more money for Ukraine. His position on this, and yours, is opposite of what the American people want. That will help him lose.
