Mopping the floor? He’s getting destroyed for this. For Trump to win he has to get votes beyond you guys in the MAGA crowd- he’s not doing it. -

Trump support among blacks, whatever it was before today, is going to sink like a stone. -

Wow, I’m really not sure what Trump was trying to accomplish here. I suppose kudos for entering a hostile atmosphere but a whole lot of his statements were very damaging. No doubt his comments will please his base but he can’t win with his base alone. He questioned whether Kamala is black or Indian- said “somebody should look into it.” Refused to say she wasn’t a DEI hire- ugly stuff. -

Trump giving a live interview right now with black reporters. He is just destroying himself. -
Good talking to you. Do they perform “Brown Eyed Woman”? (My favorite Dead song.)

Boxer achieved no benefits from living on Animal Farm. You on the other hand achieve major benefits living here. Taxation is part of the price you pay for those benefits, and you don’t get be the only one deciding where those taxes go. But we do live in a free society so if you can get enough people to agree with your position that we should let the “unproductive” die in the streets, then that will become policy. I hope it never comes to that.

Did I read the whole thing? No. I skimmed it and I read the summary. The main reason I link these studies is because these folks are usually smarter than me. Plus they’ve researched the data to back up their arguments and I haven’t. There’s no intention of deceit on my part.

It was on a podcast; I listened to it a second time and realized my error. Im done discussing this with you unless you want to have a real discussion of Biden’s policies vs Trump’s. But based on your posts I’m not sure you’re capable of that. -
Good job on not reading his posts or the replies. This has nothing to do with government running corporations. We’re trying to have a grown up conversation for once (quite unusual in this forum.) Go back to the kids table.

And as for Afghanistan, Trump was getting ready to pull out and I can almost guarantee it would have been far worse. -

Plus what he’s saying is designed for really lazy people like @Reality. Would any thinking person truly believe that Hamas wouldn’t have attacked Israel had Trump been President of the USA? Or that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine? (Actually I suppose this is possible because Trump would have tried to pressure Ukraine into simply surrendering the land in dispute.) I mean you gotta be a moron to believe this. -
So a person tried to assassinate Trump

Wait- now there are reports that the shooter was tied to an anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic website? https://www.npr.org/2024/07/30/nx-s1-5057323/fbi-trump-shooter Is it possible that, if there was indeed a political motive, this guy shot Trump because Trump wasn’t MAGA enough??? -

I have no link I heard it on MSNBC. You seem to be more invested in calling the White House liars than in addressing the actual issue. I already acknowledged they lied; what now? Their policy is still preferable to Trump’s. Why don’t you acknowledge that? -
This is the reason that I ultimately chose to reject Ayn Rand. Because I don’t want to live in this sort of society.
-
Well I can’t let your first point go- home buying doesn’t simply benefit one factor of the economy, it benefits ALL factors. It proven to be the key element in promoting economic stability. Second, don’t go quoting Atlas Shrugged to me. By forgiving student loans I’m doing nothing to hamper the Hank Reardons of the world. Also, I take strong issue with your description of these students as idiots with “unproductive educations”. That’s bunk. Plenty of them will achieve much for our society and we should encourage them to do so. Now here is a study from 2021 about how forgiving student loans will boost the economy: https://www.levyinstitute.org/pubs/rpr_2_6.pdf It’s kind of long (68 pages) but it makes the argument that the boost would be between 60 and 100 billion. And that’s just for starters. Many many economists see the value of this.

But Pelosi is quite possibly the greatest legislator in Congress we’ve ever had. Why wouldn’t we want that?
-
Yeah we wouldn’t want to do that. Are you telling Elon and Peter Thiel?
-
I imagine the DNC is going to be pretty crowded: Monday night: Barack and Michelle Tuesday night: Joe Biden Wednesday night: VP Candidate Thursday night: Kamala…and Taylor Swift?
-
Of course there are ramifications. But the problem with conservatives such as yourself is that you assume they’re all negative. Many times they are positive. However, that’s not my main problem with your argument. My main problem is that you’re insisting on treating our society as some sort of theoretical model which is currently unfettered capitalism until we choose to make this new move interfering with it. Thats not at all the case. If we forgive student loans, the government will be heavily involved with free enterprise. If we do NOT forgive student loans, the government will still be heavily involved with free enterprise. You’re not making an argument for less involvement; if you get your way you’re only redirecting the involvement somewhere else. Thus, as much as some of your points might make sense in a theoretical discussion, they don’t have any bearing on the real world. When it comes to an issue like student loan relief, we can therefore dismiss all questions of fairness and principle. The ONLY question we need to ask ourselves is this: would such a move benefit our society? I can make a good argument that it would.
-
No, this is wrong IMO. Ever since FDR and the New Deal government has involved itself with corrections of the free market. This hasn’t hurt capitalism at all; in fact it’s saved it and created greater prosperity. Relieving student loans, for example, is an excellent idea because it will increase the number of first time buyers. And there is no principle involved here, because Republicans are just as heavily involved in government investments (for example the petroleum industry.) I suppose if you truly believed in your argument based on principle you might vote libertarian, but it’s not reflective of actual capitalism in this country for the last 100 years. I do appreciate the Network reference. Paddy Chayefsky was a genius.

I don’t think @Strike or @Hardcore troubadour are racists. I think they’re generally wrong on racial issues and sometimes they make unfortunate comments but I doubt it’s deliberate. Some of the other people you mentioned are indeed racist.
