    War in Israel

I know these arguments like the back of my hand; I’ve heard them, in one form or another, my entire life. If we were a short time away from Hamas being eliminated I could perhaps go along with you. It would then be like Berlin or Tokyo in 1945: But there is no evidence that this is the case. And children are dying, they are starving to death. If this is about Israel’s future security then it seems to me that they are creating a new generation that will hate them even more than before. I don’t think this bodes well. But regardless of all that, regardless of all your arguments, it’s immoral to starve children. There’s no getting around that. Feed the children. If that means Hamas gets to survive another day, so be it.
  2. Thanks for the response. I am for getting rid of the violent criminals and the gangbangers. I am not for getting rid of the “hurdles” if that means skirting due process. I guess that’s where we differ.
  3. I really do know that most of you here don’t subscribe to his bullsh!t. That being said, even wanting to deport every undocumented immigrant is an extremist position. Just as my call for open immigration is also an extremist position- I get that. Neither position is workable. Reasonable people should be able to come up with some compromise.
  4. See now that one I enjoyed.
  5. I noticed that, in your long insulting screed, you failed to answer the question. I’m often amused by your continual insults whenever you reply to me. Sometimes they’re smartly written and I enjoy those the most. Other times they’re patronizing and filled with pomposity. But I gotta tell ya, if your purpose is to make me feel bad about myself or stupid or whatever, it ain’t working.
  6. The biggest problem for tourism is the Canadian boycott, which is imitated by many Europeans.
  7. The question wasn’t meant for you. You’ve made yourself quite clear already.

    War in Israel

I don’t see the connection. I don’t think Israel should prevent food from coming in to starving people in Gaza. I’m not talking about weapons or even money sent to Hamas. I’m talking about food. I don’t think this is a good look.
  9. Not even Trump is this stupid. Aint happening.
  10. Voltaire despite my many strong disagreements with you I think you know I regard you as a smart guy with great integrity. So let me ask you: Do you truly believe that the millions of undocumented people here who have NOT committed any violent crimes should be forcibly rounded up and deported? Even including those who came here as young children, or those who have served in our armed forces?
  11. The federalism issue makes sense to me and I would dismiss the case based on this argument (but I am a layman.) The immunity argument does NOT make sense to me. In fact it actually troubles me. Though I don’t think Hannah Dugan is guilty of any crime, theoretically a judge COULD commit a crime, and therefore blanket immunity should not apply. (I felt the same way when the Supreme Court recently gave Trump and all future Presidents blanket immunity.)
  12. Really cheering news this morning (for those of us who have always been opposed to this policy): https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-polls-2071579 Support for mass deportations as a top priority has dropped to 35%. https://theimmigrationhub.org/article/voters-overwhelming-support-pathway-to-citizenship-over-mass-deportation/ The American public supports a “pathway to citizenship” for undocumented immigrants over mass deportation. Everyone wants the violent criminals gone, no question about that. But when we’re talking about the hard working vast majority of undocumented immigrants, or detaining somebody’s abuela, the public doesn’t like it. They may have thought they wanted it but now they clearly don’t, and the more Trump and the ICE thugs push it, looks like the more unpopular it’s going to get.
  13. I actually like what Trump is doing with regard to Syria and also now with Iran (though I don’t think any deal he reaches with Iran will be as good as the Obama one he tore apart.) Nonetheless this is the one part of Trump I like: the deal maker who is eager to avoid wars. More of this guy please.
  14. It wasn’t. And I don’t agree with you either.
  15. Curious as to how many people in this forum agree with this lunatic.
  16. Do you regard Michael Luttig as a partisan advocate? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Michael_Luttig
  17. We’re talking here about undocumented immigrants not criminals. Most undocumented immigrants are not criminals and don’t deserve to be treated as such.
  18. How convenient of you guys to already assume she will be acquitted only because the system is fixed in her favor, not because this is a sham prosecution…

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

And we fundamentally disagree that this fixes anything.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

I haven’t heard ANY economist say it would be immediate. But the problem is evident already in the ports, just not yet for the consumer. As for what you e been asserting, you say the effects will be tiny. I strongly doubt that. I think we’re in for a LOT of pain and it will be very noticeable. We’ll see who’s right between us; I sure hope it’s you.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

If by the end of July we don’t see price hikes and severe shortages on the items that normally reach us from China I will be quite happy (and very surprised.)

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

In that article the guy from JP Morgan says prices will seriously ramp up in June or July. Not sure what you think you’re reading. Tiny footprint? Hardly.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

What in the actual Fock are you talking about? What economist has said this? They’ve said the same thing all along: that the price hikes will hit this summer, in June or July, that it’s already too late to prevent it, that the drop in our ports currently happening (long Beach by 60%) is a calamity. https://apnews.com/article/inflation-economy-tariffs-trump-5436b90e8e5a003f228c1bd08186589c Now they could still be wrong. I seriously doubt it but hope they are. We’ll know by July.
  24. Let me offer you a hypothetical. An undocumented immigrant witnesses a child being sexually molested. He goes to the police and turns in the culprit. Now the pedophile is on trial and this undocumented immigrant is the only witness to the crime. But the witness sees this incident (the Hannah Dugan case) in the news. Now he is afraid to testify. Since he was the only witness the case is thrown out and the pedophile freed to commit more crimes. This is exactly what the ACLU was warning about. It’s what Hannah Dugan recognized and why she should not be prosecuted. Now do you get it? If you still don’t there’s really nothing else I can offer. ICE shouldn’t be outside the courtroom or inside. They shouldn’t be anywhere near it, period.
  25. No it wasn’t shown that. While they didn’t enter the courtroom and they didn’t interfere with this specific case, their presence outside affects all judicial proceedings. Why is this so hard to understand?
