Harrison Butker releases a statement responding to the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

If you read the entire article it suggests that there is a disagreement about what the scene was about. Some say The Last Supper, but the designer insists Dionysus. I honestly have no dog in this hunt. Dionysus makes some sense to me and I gave my reasons why. I also think that the designer would know. But he could be lying. Again I have no idea. I can only offer an opinion same as everyone else here. -

I don’t think I’ve written anything in this thread, or in this forum, or in any forum, that has mocked Christianity. I wrote earlier that I felt that all of the major religions could use a little mocking, but I haven’t done it myself to the best of my knowledge and certainly not in the post you responded to. That was about renaissance art, and had nothing to do with the actual Christian religion. -

Amazing how you project. What you wrote doesn’t apply to me at all, but substitute ABC and CNN for right wing media and it fits you to a tee. -
Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

OK so here is some aggregate polling from the week past. As I wrote in the other thread we can, IMO, take some of it seriously. And it actually represents some good news for each side depending on what you want to believe: https://www.newsweek.com/harris-trump-polling-averages-one-week-after-biden-exit-1931251 The good news for Trump is that he remains ahead, by an average of 2 points and a little higher in Pennsylvania. Despite Kamala’s gains since her campaign started, there may be a ceiling for her in which a firm majority, still concerned about inflation and the border, desire for a return to Trump, and no amount of enthusiasm by the Democrats is going to break that ceiling. The good news for Kamala is that she has creeped a lot closer in a very short period time. Effectively we are now right where we were prior to the first debate: a tight race with Trump slightly ahead. But for Kamala to win she’s got to surge past him. I think she will. I don’t believe there is the ceiling that Trump fans are counting on. But I could be wrong. -
Not directly. He might peel away some moderate Republicans from Trump. Kamala will win Pennsylvania if she just sticks to the game plan and rises above the hatred and bigotry coming her way.

Well that’s not what I read. Which I posted. From the MSM not a Twitter account. -

I don’t read Twitter. And anyhow maybe the actors got that wrong or created that comparison themselves. It certainly doesn’t appear to be what the designer intended. And I know you think Jolly, the designer, is a liar. But if so it’s a very believable lie, because it really did look like the classical depictions of Bacchus (Dionysus) celebrations, even more than it looks like the Last Supper. And that would also fit with the gay and trans themes. So to me that explanation is extremely plausible- but hey what do I know? I’m just a “feelings” guy right? Not a logical bone in my body. -

Which is why I wrote that the apology was unnecessary. But did you read the actual apology? It was like “hey we’re sorry if you felt offended but…” that’s how my wife says I apologize lol. -

So it’s emotion to believe the designer of the piece and logic to think that he’s lying? What a messed up world you live in. All of the emotion is on your part. You want to be outraged by this so it HAS to be an attack against Christianity. If it wasn’t then all the outrage was a waste of time and once again you just look like a bigot against trans people. Therefore you’ve made it up your mind: it was The Last Supper! -

The designer of the event says it had nothing to do with The Last Supper: https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/4797097-paris-olympics-organizer-says-drag-performance-was-nod-to-greek-mythology-not-last-supper/ I dunno. I think I prefer to take his word for it over something I can’t read in French or a social media account. But that’s just me. -

The first link is in French which, to my regret doesn’t help me. The second link is to X which I don’t belong to. Do you have a MSM article I can read which reports this? -

You know it never occurred to me before, but Da Vinci’s painting is quite similar to Greek depictions of Dionysus’ revelries. Which might have been a little subtle mockery on his part. Perhaps the real complaint here should be with Leonardo? -

The facts in this instance seem to support that this had nothing to do with The Last Supper. Therefore I don’t think there was any need to apologize. But many Christians FEEL insulted. So I think in terms of facts vs feelings, you have it quite backwards. -
What did Trump mean when he told Christians: "In four years, you won’t have to vote again"?
The Real timschochet replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
Mostly because he lied about his net worth to begin with and Forbes bought into some of the lies before further investigation. -

I didn’t say it should be retracted. I wrote it wasn’t necessary. Not the same. Also I’m not trying to tell anyone how they should feel. I’m offering my opinion. You’re free to offer a different opinion. The difference between us (aside from our opinion) is that I’m not going to insult you after you offer yours. -

I didn’t know it all along but when you think about it it makes sense. Actually way more sense than the Last Supper (which again isn’t even the Last Supper but Da Vinci’s depiction of same.) -

Am I worried about him hanging around for longer than 2028? Or ending elections? Nah. Because even if he wanted to, the vast majority of those voting for him, even the MAGA crowd, don’t want to change our system and would never allow it. They believe in it too. The bigger point is that Trump is a rambling idiot and for the life of me I will never understand his attraction to some of you. Guys a fraud, a crook, a bigot, incompetent, a bad businessman, and an awful human being. How can you possibly vote for him again? Do you truly hate liberals and the rest of us that much? -
First part of your post is not true. There are polls taken in the last few days of some of the swing states that are good for Trump and which I find disappointing. I’m hoping those fade away in couple of weeks but if they stay steady Kamala is in trouble. The second part of your post could be true so long as you’re willing to share.
-
Yes I did. But it also had polls from before last week and included those in the aggregate. Hence my post.

Olympic organizers apologize to Christians: https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/28/paris-olympics-organisers-apologise-to-christians-for-last-supper-parody I don’t think the apology was necessary. The trans lady was supposed to be Dionysus, not Jesus. Therefore they weren’t attacking Christianity. It was supposed to be plea for love, peace and tolerance. By apologizing they’re giving in to the intolerant mob IMO -
I don’t think any polls taken before the middle of last week are relevant at all. By Wednesday or Thursday the public had absorbed the fact that Kamala Harris is the nominee and a lot of folks had listened to her speak for the first time. Any polls taken before that reflect a completely different election and don’t matter in the slightest.

It’s been a week since Biden quit the race and we’re finally starting to get a few poll numbers that can be trusted: they’re still in flux, but as I wrote, look at the trend lines. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Politics/harris-sees-boost-favorability-after-biden-drops-race/story?id=112306763 One week ago, before Kamala became the presumptive candidate, she had an approval rating of 36% and a disapproval rating of 51%. Remember this is before she was seriously exposed to the public and her numbers are closely tied into the public’s negative view of Joe Biden. As of this morning her approval rating is 43%, disapproval rating 42%. After one week! And IMO this is only the beginning.
