Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

The polls continue to be very good for Kamala Harris: https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/21/harris-leads-trump-presidential-poll Nope I’m not guaranteeing anything. Still awfully close and anything could happen. But she is moving in a positive direction. -

You keep missing (or avoiding) the fact that the new proposed tariffs are SIGNIFICANTLY greater than those put up before and kept on by Biden, so much so as to make the issue of Biden maintaining the previous tariffs and their supposed effectiveness (both of which points you keep bringing up) as totally irrelevant. -

First off your information is incorrect. He started with 10% then went to 20%. It’s not between 10 and 20%. However even 10% would be catastrophic. So would 60% on China (that could also threaten a war with China BTW) but I have heard him say 100%. Yesterday he said 200% on all foreign cars not just Mexico, but again even on Mexico would lead to terrible results. Next I’m not going to get into some silly game of whether or not tariffs are actually sales tax. The point is they would be devastating to our economy, far far worse than anything Kamala is proposing. Finally while personally I believe that all tariffs are bad and strongly disapprove of what Biden has done regarding this issue, it’s irrelevant, because the new tariffs proposed by Trump would be so much worse than anything we’ve ever done in our history (even including Smoot-Hawley which caused the Great Depression) that you can’t really compare. -

Of course. Trump proposes the following: 1. A 20% tariff on ALL imports from every other country on Earth with no exceptions. 2. A 100% tariff on all Chinese imports. 3. A 200% tariff on all foreign made automobiles. Most importantly: Trump can enact all of these tariffs by himself alone as President without any consent from Congress. So this isn’t just talk or conjecture. Against this you can take all of Kamala’s price control proposals and tax hikes and whatever else she proposes and it’s almost irrelevant, even if she were to somehow get it all through Congress. Given these facts, if you’re still supporting Trump over Kamala then by definition you care nothing about the marketplace and you’re essentially anti-capitalism. If you disagree with this assertion feel free to make your case. -

Your argument in the previous post is a good one. Your statement here is absurd, but it’s a typical example of how conservatives are brainwashed about economics. Of course the Republicans interfere just as much in the marketplace as Democrats do, perhaps even more so if we really examine it. Republicans are NOT libertarian, NOT for the free market, and in the age of Trump less so than ever. Yet you and others continue to make these insipid arguments attacking Democrats for being “leftist”. It’s laughable. Grow up and face reality. There are no truly pro-free market candidates running for office that can win. Your choices are only where we interfere and how much. On the whole, Kamala Harris will interfere less in the market than Trump will. Thats all you got. -
They all switched parties. This ain’t 1965 anymore.

Another good idea. Of course he doesn’t mention that it was Trump who put these in in the first place as a means to punish blue states, particularly New York and California. -

I actually don’t mind this idea. In theory. Though it will never happen because he doesn’t have that power and Congress won’t agree. But it’s still amusing to hear conservatives continue to attack Harris for interfering with the free market while ignoring Trump proposals to do the same. -

I would never argue they’ve added nothing but positive. I say they’re a net positive but @jerryskids is right: I say that about ALL immigrants because unless you’re a Native American it’s been largely true. -

An electoral landslide is certainly possible- I could see Harris winning every battleground state. It’s entirely possible. On the other hand I could see her winning a very close contest decided basically by Pennsylvania. And I could see her losing a close contest by losing Pennsylvania- that could happen quite easily too. But I don’t see Trump winning a landslide. If Trump wins it’s going to be close. -
A few of the posts here have been funny. Most are pretty scary and depressing.

Fashionable foreigners exposing Ohioans to new culinary experiences
The Real timschochet replied to Fireballer's topic in The Geek Club
Here is the incredible sad irony about folks like @jerryskids who are complaining, without real evidence or foundation, that the infusion of Haitian immigrants in Springfield Ohio is a burden on that community: the death threats, the school closures, the festival cancellation- these have cost Springfield millions of dollars, far more than any burden that the immigrants might have caused. If @jerryskids or anyone else here truly cared about the poor folks of Springfield they would call on Trump and Vance to stop the lies, publicly proclaim they were untrue, and demand all the threats stop. But of course they won’t. Because none of these folks really care what happens over there; it’s just a political prop. -

I don’t always say it’s good thing but in truth I don’t know when it’s ever been a bad thing. I can’t think of any historical examples of that and this is a history (immigration to America) that I’ve studied pretty carefully for a long long time. Is that childish? Maybe in your world, not mine. -

It’s bigoted to collectivize to a large group. It’s bigoted to suggest that they represent a problem or burden on our society because of supposed bad driving skills. I don’t regard you as a bigoted person but these are unintentional bigoted comments IMO. Let’s bottom line this: none of the reasons you offered is enough to justify not having these people here or reporting them. It’s good for us that they’re here. We should bring more in.
