Another thing @jerryskids should answer: why exactly was Trump asked this question in the first place? No other Presidential candidate, Republican or Democrat, has ever been asked about wanting to be a dictator. What is it about Trump that makes this a pertinent query? -

Your analysis would be 100% except for the fact that there’s a larger context of Trump making months worth of statements about abrogating the Constitution, throwing his enemies in prison, calling for the executions of generals, admiring strongmen like Viktor Orban, curtailing the press, etc, etc., all of the actions of a would be dictator. In each case you can find excuses and justifications as you did here. But when you examine them all together it is a very troubling pattern which you really can’t ignore unless you are deliberately determined to do so (and it kind of appears that you are.) -

They are. But no answers yet. I’ve been perusing talk radio. On the conservative stations, the thinking seems to be that the government is actively helping these individuals try to assassinate Donald Trump and that’s how this idiot knew where he’d be. Honestly that seems extremely unlikely to me. On the progressive stations, a lot of the thinking is that Trump planned this whole thing himself, was never in any danger, and THAT’S how this idiot knew where Trump would be. But that seems equally as unlikely to me, perhaps even more so. I really have trouble buying into these sorts of intricate plots no matter which side they’re from. And yet….I still don’t know how this guy knew where Trump would be. I can’t quite believe he simply guessed. So I’m stumped. -

The head of the Secret Service said that this golf course was an unplanned visit for Donald Trump (he owns 3 courses in the area.) So how did the gunman, who reportedly hid in the bushes for 12 hours, know Trump was gonna be there? Did he just get incredibly lucky or did somebody tell him? I’m the last guy who buys into conspiracy theories, and I won’t buy into one here. But this doesn’t make any sense. -
Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

You’re being lied to again. The Haitian refugees weren’t dumped there. They were invited. -

Is Kamala surging in North Carolina? https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/09/16/harris-north-carolina-decisive/ We’ll know early election night if she wins that state. And if she does the race is basically over. -

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Can an expert sniper really make a shot from 500 yards? That seems amazing. -
The think the point is that nobody would mock Trump over being shot at. Because most people have a sense of decency.

Not to mention the MAGA dude in Pittsburgh who shot up all the Jews because of the Great Replacement theory. Or the MAGA dude in El Paso who murdered all the Hispanics because of Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric. Or all the death threats that Haitian Americans have received in the last week. Let’s be clear: by far the biggest inciter of violence in this country is Donald Trump. It’s not even a close call. He has created this era of division and hatred that we are currently in, and it will last until he is finally defeated in the election. -

You’re right that he’s a moron but I’m not really arguing with him so much as I’m organizing my own thoughts. -

So I have a question for those that know guns better than I do (which is probably most of you): They said he was 500 yards away from Trump with an AR-15. At what range would an average guy be able to hit someone with that weapon? 100 yards? 200 yards? More? Or do you have to be a trained sniper to be accurate from 100 yards or more? -

In the Dead Zone, Stephen King’s hero (and alter-ego) John Smith is a psychic and dying of a brain tumor. He learns through his psychic powers that a politician named Greg Stillson (with many similarities to Trump which is creepy because this book was written in 1979) will someday be President, become a dictator and bring on a nuclear war. Faced with that dilemma Smith decides to assassinate Stillson. It was a thought experiment by King and an attempt in fiction to justify an assassin. But we don’t live in a fictional world. Here there are no psychics that can tell us for sure what happens next. Here there is no justification for assassination of an American politician. -

You know I was thinking today of the novel The Dead Zone by Stephen King. Have you read it? -

Of course it could because anyone can take what anyone says and turn it into something it’s not. That doesn’t make it incendiary. -

I’d have to dig for it, but yes. I’ve always been troubled by that particular accusation against Trump and have said so. He did, IMO, break the law and committed treason with regard to the 2020 election, but that has to do with his attempts to subvert the electoral process. He also may have acted either incompetently or with deliberate bad faith once the riot started- I’m pretty sure it’s one or the other, but not sure which. For that alone he deserves condemnation and he should never be President again. But did he actually incite violence? Not in my opinion. I’ve read that speech he gave at the Ellipse many times. He used the words “peaceful protests.” He didn’t call for violence- that time anyhow. I have expressed this thought more than once over the last 4 years in various posts. I wouldn’t have the vaguest idea how to find it. At other times I thought that he did incite violence on that day and wrote it but then changed my mind later on. So you can take my word for this or not, your choice. -

More than one thing can be true at the same time. I believe that Donald Trump is a wanna be dictator. I think he poses a unique threat to our democracy. I think if he were elected we would survive it; nonetheless it IS a threat IMO. I don’t think that is hyperbole at all. The way to defeat the threat of Donald Trump is for Kamala Harris to win the election. Any violence against Trump or anyone else is madness and needs to be condemned by everyone as it has been. -

Allow me to answer for myself rather than grouping me in with people who you call “lefties”. 1. I was uncomfortable with Trump’s rhetoric on January 6. But I don’t think it rose to the level of calling for violence. That being said, I do believe he has called for violence on other occasions and deserves to be condemned for it. But to answer your question: no it was not a clear sign, at least not to me. 2. Yes that is my reading of Jeffries. 3. I don’t know what a “pseud” is. I can’t speak for anyone but myself. I don’t believe Hakeem Jeffries’ statement here was in any way incendiary. 4. You are apparently finding contradictions that don’t really exist. I can’t change that but I can honestly tell you what I’m thinking which I’ve done here . -

OK. I repeat: MAGA are extremists and need to be stopped. At the polling booth. That’s my firm belief, feel free to think as you wish. -
