Diversity programs are bad because conservatives want to ignore history and white privilege and pretend that everyone has equal opportunity to succeed regardless of race or gender.

I can’t go there with my family because my daughter has a peanut allergy. But I enjoy it from time to time myself. Because they’re not a drive thru, and because we have so many hamburger drive thrus here (including In N Out which is considered upscale) Five Guys had better be pretty high quality to do business. I think it is.

But that would be wrong because I don’t.

Lots of Habit too

If you’re going to quote me get it right: I do NOT believe in an activist court. I simply believe that there are more rights implicit in the Constitution than conservatives do. (Conservatives are hypocrites on this anyway- they keep finding rights hidden in the 2nd Amendment but refuse to find them anywhere else- they’re only for originalism when it suits them.)

They’re being deliberately slow on the Trump immunity decision in order to help him win the election if they can. Pretty sad state of affairs.

There’s always backlash to wokeism and sometimes it’s powerful. Three steps forward one step back. We’ll get there eventually. In ten years from now the folks complaining about this will be embarrassed that they ever did; that’s the way it always goes.

Based on the Dobbs decision I have to believe these bans will be upheld. If the conservative majority rejects the idea of an implicit right to privacy in the Constitution then there’s no legal basis for them to overturn whatever states decide. Of course there IS a right to privacy in the Constitution but these conservatives reject that. Which is why we need to work at getting an eventual liberal majority back in the SC (not by packing it, just over time through elections). Then all this crap can be overturned. And in the meantime we need liberal majorities in the House and Senate in order to grant federal protections for these lost rights.

First off were the most populated state so it’s likely we’re going to have the “most” of anything, Second, from what my gun owning friends tell me if I wanted to possess a firearm I am not allowed to have legally all I gotta do is drive to Nevada and get one. Which is why for any gun restriction to be truly effective it has to be federal.

Yeah but they’ve also been calling for free trade and open immigration. I doubt they’re going to be too excited about Project 2025.

It’s pretty scary stuff. But we have to remember what is the root of all this. It’s the same reason that’s been behind Trump’s popularity all along since he first came down the escalator in 2015 (and even before that when the Birther movement was popular)- it’s the fear of the browning of America. Everything goes back to this: white people (some of us) are terrified of becoming a minority. If you understand this point you understand the rest. (It’s the same impetus for all of the extreme right wing movements in Europe these days.)

You’re right about the most important states but I question that Vance would make a positive impact.

Sorry buddy. You’ve got a small minority of doctors who disagree with majority opinion, mainly because it gets them money and notoriety, and you glom onto it because it already fits your preheld convictions which are cultural and political and not based on science. You guys do the same thing for climate change: If you want to convince me that transgenderism is a mental illness and that the surgery for it is wrong, come up with a source in the mainstream telling us that. Doesn’t have to be the AMA. If the Mayo Clinic or John Hopkins or UCLA Medical center tells me it’s a bad surgery and they stop performing it then I’ll believe you. Until then I don’t.

So long as you realize that on the key issues he’s faking it. Rubio is a free trader, pro immigrant, pro-amnesty, pro-Ukraine, and a globalist. He’s just pretending otherwise currently to curry favor with the MAGA crowd. You get that, right?

Reportedly Trump is down to 3 VP choices: Doug Burgam, JD Vance, and Marco Rubio. My thoughts: 1. Burgam is the most colorless. Kind of the Republican equivalent of Hillary’s 2016 pick: the kind of guy you forget about minutes after he’s introduced. If he’s the guy there will be no impact whatsoever on the race. 2. Vance is the most MAGA type- seems to buy into most of the conspiracy theories (or at least he says he does- the old version didn’t which causes some people to figure this might just be for show.) But he’s definitely a populist who will stir up the crowds and, whether or not Trump wins or loses, is poised to be the successor. 3. Rubio might be able to strip away 5% more Latinos from the Dems. Plus he’ll attract some of the Haley voters who dislike Trump. Rubio is seen as an establishment guy and competent and the old line conservatives will like him. There is a legal problem with both guys residing in Florida but they can probably fix that. If I were a Trump advisor (heaven forbid!) I would strongly push for Rubio. But watch it be one of the other two.

My thoughts are that like bigot you support you are attempting to lay these crimes on all undocumented immigrants rather than the tiny, statistically insignificant number of people that commit them. The scum who committed this crime and any like it should be put to death or face life imprisonment or whatever punishment is proper. But undocumented immigrants who commit no violent crimes don’t deserve to be grouped in with them.

My daughter is studying for medical school and I had a long conversation about this with her. According to what she has learned from the hospital she works at (a very famous one in Orange County) the operation that some of you refer to as “mutilation” doesn’t happen unless the patient passes a whole series of psychological and medical tests and years of proper treatment and consultation. If this is true then personally I’d be willing to allow it for people under the age of 18. After all, that’s just an arbitrary number. Mental maturity and self-knowledge about what one wants, which can be determined by the testing, is what’s important.

Because I want my children and grandchildren to regard drag queens as regular people and not weird or gross or frightening. I don’t want them to grow up to be ignorant bigots and you can’t start too young to teach them that everyone deserves respect.

I used to be grossed out by trannies but I’m a little older now and I have no fears about my own sexuality. They’re dudes and gals like everyone else; they deserve our love and respect and if you can’t give them that then leave them the fock alone. They’re not mentally ill. They’re not going to talk your kids into becoming trannies- no one can be talked into it, that’s bullsh!t. You shouldn’t be allowed to have the surgery until your 18 but the hormone treatment, that’s OK younger. Between a patient, family and doctor and the rest of you stay the fock out of it. And it’s not mutilation either. Last thing- if a guy has a sex change he becomes a woman. And vice versa. Full stop. I don’t care if YOU think she’s still a guy. What you think doesn’t matter only what the person thinks.

My kids are too old for drag queen story hour. But if they were younger sure I’d take them. I’d be proud to attend that. There’s nothing sick, nothing disgusting about that, and you guys that think there is there’s something wrong with you.
