First off that’s not what the law says. But even if did, how are we to determine if somebody has the legal right to be here? Should they be allowed to argue it before a court of law or do we just leave up to ICE to determine it? And if it’s the latter, what’s to keep ICE from deciding you’re not a legal citizen and deporting you without due process?

No. But every person forcibly detained by the government deserves their day in court. Do you agree with this principle or not?

In this case they did. They need to do it in every case. Bad guys like this one are the only people who should be forcibly deported.

Personally I have no problem with Abrego Garcia being deported so long as that’s what the courts decide. My problem with this case, from the beginning, was that the Trump administration chose to go around the courts and take action against him without due process. To answer @avoiding injuries, due process is the hill I choose to die on, NOT the guilt or innocences of Abrego Garcia. Whether or not he s deported, I think he should sue our government for illegally sending him to El Salvador where he was tortured.

Sorry I missed this post yesterday. I appreciate the question, but before I answer it, please stop calling me a liar. I did in fact listen to the entire hearing in my car during a long drive. Now there are a lot more than 3 things that bother me about RFK Jr, besides Covid. But here are the top 3 things: 1. His attempts, past and present, to link MMR vaccines to autism. This is a crackpot theory which has been disproved over and over and its spread is highly dangerous to public health. This theory alone should have disqualified RFK from his current position. 2. Fluoride in our water supply has saved millions of Americans from tooth decay and other public health concerns, yet RFK has bought into the old crazy John Birch society theory that it is somehow dangerous. 3. Antidepressants have completely altered mental health issues for the better in our society, allowing millions of people to live fairly normal lives that they could not before, yet RFK is afraid of them and think that they actually contribute to mental illness and, directly, to mass shootings. There are so many more: his views on atrazine, raw milk, HIV,, wi-fi causing cancer, etc. And even putting aside the conventional debate about how safe Covid vaccines were and are, his statements about different ethnicities getting the disease at different rates are way out there. To summarize: he seems to have bought into every conspiracy theory about medicine no matter how extreme. You know the dudes who, whenever their football team does poorly insist that the NFL is fixed? Imagine putting one of those guys in charge of the officiating. Thats what we have here.

@jerryskids how do you feel about this? Should Trump or Israel grant concessions to Hamas that would allow for the release of hostages? If so, what? Not asking to challenge; you. I’ve always been torn on this and would like your thoughts.

This is an important point because conservatives have been making these arguments for the last 80 years. 1. We could have won the Korean War by dropping a nuke on China (MacArthur’s proposal.) 2. We could have won the Vietnam War by invading North Vietnam (it would have started a new war with China and Russia but who cares, right?) 3. We could have won in Afghanistan and Iran by…I dunno. Kill every Muslim around? I was never too clear on this one, except that it was another case of liberals being too “weak”.

Many are. Some are not. Of those that post regularly on political issues, I’d have to, at this point, place the non-garbage ones in the minority.

I actually feel bad for him. If he’s telling the truth about his wealth (always a question because he brags so much) he thinks he is benefitting from the tax cuts and the stock market going up. But I don’t think it’s going to work out as well for him as he thinks because the net effect of these terrible policies will be less spending power for everyone, including the wealthy, and the tax breaks won’t make that big a difference.

This is also a really dumb, seriously uneducated comment. Tariffs have bad effects short-term (usually within a few months) and even worse effects long term (usually within a few years.)

And I haven’t been wrong at all. I wrote that that the tariffs and the pretense of mass deportations will eventually lead to a recession and very hard economic times- unless Trump backs off. I never offered a timeline other than things would probably start to look bad by the middle or end of summer which is exactly what’s happening.

They’re not happening. What’s happening is the show, the threat of mass deportations, anecdotal news stories that are scaring people and slowing down the economy. That’s what needs to stop. But the truth is there are not and will never be actual mass deportations.

There is still time to fix this and avoid a recession. Two simple moves will do it: 1. Call off the tariffs. Announce that the U.S. is seeking new trade deals but not tariffs. In particular call off tariffs on any product not already manufactured or produced in the U.S. 2. Call off the mass deportations. Announce that the current situation on the border is satisfactory and that ICE is going back to focusing mainly on removing violent felons. Trump could do this so easily, regain some of his fading popularity, and the economy will soar. Prices will go down. The Republicans would likely hold on to the House and Senate. So easy….

Dude, I’m hardly focusing on this. I thought it was funny and stupid and shows us what a moron this guy is. But in terms of importance, it’s nothing compared to the tariffs and the deportations and RFK JR and all of the other terrible aspects of Trump’s presidency- pretty clearly the worst ever at this point. I agree with you that he does a lot of stuff to rile the media. This is not one of those however. He’s doing this because he honestly believes that “War” sounds tougher and more manly than “defense”. That’s why I called him a 6 year old.
