Many years ago on a different forum I shared the very personal fact that my wife suffered from alcoholism and had entered a hospital for rehabilitation. It was a very painful time for me. I shared the information at the time because I wanted to see if other folks there had gone through what I had and had experience with Al-anon and Continuing Care. I did receive some helpful info and advice at the time. I had no political motive at all and I had no idea that people would, years later, choose to bring this up to attack me. I am very proud of my wife who is now many years sober. I remain, with my wife, heavily involved in AA and Al-anon. Some people here continue to bring this up as if it is some sort of slur against me. During that most painful time of my life, I also wrongly accused my wife of driving our children while intoxicated. That turned out to be completely false, she never did that. But the same folks who choose to bring this up in political threads sometimes bring that accusation up as well. Those who continue to bring this up as some sort of attack against me are scum, IMO. It’s up to you if you want to join their club.

I wasn’t referring to social issues. But since you are lets go over this again: 1. Americans DO care about abortion and they are strongly with the Democratic Party on this issue. (Not on late term abortions but that is so rare it’s almost irrelevant.) Since the Dobbs decision people are really motivated about this and the ones that are largely vote Democrat. 2. Public opinion on gender transformation is mixed. 60% of the public don’t want teenagers to have this surgery. However, 60% of the public doesn’t believe the government should legislate whether teenagers should have this surgery. But the biggest public reaction on this issue is: they don’t care. Social conservatives, who already lean toward Trump heavily, care about this issue a whole lot. Nobody else does. It doesn’t show up on any list of issues that voters care about. 3. On economic issues, Democrats haven’t moved far left. The economic proposals of Bernie Sanders and AOC have been consistently rejected by the Democratic leadership. To the contrary, Republicans have moved far right.

From what I heard on the news, he didn’t lie about being deaf. He trained with artillery and had lost his hearing. He was speeding over 30 years ago. I doubt the public will care about this.

You’ve got one candidate who, admittedly, is in favor of regulations and taxation on corporations designed to help fight climate change. These regulations and taxation do not help the economy short term. You have the other candidate who wants to remove many of these regulations and taxation, but who also wants to impose a 10% consumer tax on all imports and a 60% tax on one of our main trading partners. You need to choose between them. My position is that the tariffs proposed by Donald Trump would be far more catastrophic to our economic well-being than any of the policies currently in place from the Democrats or even any of the policies they are proposing for the future.

The only way to enforce this more than we do now is through comprehensive immigration reform.

Already heard about this. Arrested because he didn’t respond to the trooper- Walz couldn’t hear him because he was deaf from his artillery training. When it got to court, the judge chastised the trooper and dismissed the charges.

They’re not going anywhere. We’re not going to deport them. Even trying to deport them would be a complete disaster for us both economically and morally. They’re here to stay, get that through your head. WTF is wrong with YOU??

Whether I love it and you hate it doesn’t matter. What matters is that nobody cares. On the issues that Americans care about this doesn’t ever make the list. The people who DO care about it, the weirdos who obsess over it, all all voting for Trump anyhow.

How does that jibe with a 10% tax on all imports and a 60% tax on Chinese imports? Is that letting the markets “take care of themselves”?

The more I read about him the more I like. Again: a dynamic speech at the convention (and on the campaign trail) will do more than enough. And Harris was probably going to win Pennsylvania anyhow.

Not sure what that has to do with my post. Also not sure you even understand what Bernie Sanders is about or what his economic differences with the Democratic Party are all about. Giving drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants is a wonderful idea. It should be done in every state. Huge money saver and solves lots of problems.
