Trump's NY Election Interference Trial - Trump is found guilty on all 34 counts
The Real timschochet replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
IMO, I am convinced a fraudulent act occurred and that Donald Trump committed it. The only question I still have is: is it a felony? The prosecution hasn’t quite explained that yet. I imagine they will attempt to do so in their summation. They need to explain how election interference of this sort is an actual felonious crime which would make the falsifying of records more than a misdemeanor. If they can make a convincing argument then I’m sold. If they can’t, I would be forced to acquit Trump if I were on the jury. -

Robert Costello is the Giuliani lawyer who, according to Cohen, warned Cohen not to “flip”, right? If his testimony before Congress truly destroys Cohen, then surely the defense will call him as a witness right? Let’s see if they do. The problem with the article that @jerryskids posted, from everything else I’ve read, is that Cohem’s testimony is corroborated by Pecker and the other witnesses and the tape with Trump’s voice on it. But beyond that it doesn’t make any sense. If Cohen paid Daniels of his own volition, why would Trump repay it? And then why try to explain it away as a “legal expense”? Coven’s description of the crime is the only one that makes logical sense- unless of course Trump wants to take the stand and tell us what really happened. -
That has nothing to do with Harry Potter.
-
Umm no. The first Harry Potter book was published in 1997. The religious controversy began around 1999 and reached its height, among evangelicals, around 2004- exactly 20 years ago: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_debates_over_the_Harry_Potter_series So you got this wrong. But I know it wasn’t deliberate on your part. Shall I call you a liar?
-
I’m not analyzing anyone or trying to parse hidden motives. Just taking folks at their word.
-
It is amusing that about 20 years ago all of the religious conservatives hated Rowling- her work was regarded as “devil worship.” Now that she has turned out to be a bigot they suddenly are celebrating her.
-
Roald Dahl, of Willie Wonka fame, was a bigot as well. So was HP Lovecraft, Ezra Pound, TS Eliot, the list goes on. Sometimes the folks with the best imaginations are pretty awful people.

lol it’s not uncomfortable at all. And you’re doing it again- trying to tell me what I think and feel. The reason it’s not uncomfortable is because it’s wrong. I don’t hate any politicians in this country, certainly not Donald Trump. I don’t take any political positions for the purpose of virtue signaling or to impress others. I believe what I believe. Of course I can’t speak for anyone else. Unlike you I don’t try. -

Seems like 99% of the pundits on all sides believe that Trump will not testify. Anyone here see it differently? -
Pelosi: Populism is a Threat to Democracy
The Real timschochet replied to jonmx's topic in The Geek Club
You’re aware that the Nazi Party was elected, right? There is a reason that our Founding Fathers avoided a pure democracy and preferred the election of officials who would serve terms of office and decide issues (a republic): because the public isn’t informed enough to decide complex issues. They will inevitably choose the laziest, most simplistic, easiest choice to any difficult question: And that is why populism is so dangerous. -

I’m not sure what’s wrong with prepared statements. I don’t need to see how quickly a President can think on his toes. I want to know what policy he and his team believe in, what they intend to do, if somebody is too scripted that will quickly he revealed. -

This post is an example, IMO, of a lot of what is wrong with the discussion in this forum, you are spending your time telling @thegeneral what he thinks, who he hates, what his motivations are. In truth you have no idea about any of this. I wish you you would focus on telling us what YOU think rather than analyze him. -

lol it’s like you guys are on the moon. If the debate is about issues or any kind of substance Trump has no chance whatsoever. He will be crushed. -

Lots of speculation this morning that this will happen. Trump insiders know that he will be demolished if he faces Biden, especially if Trump is unable to interrupt. So they’re desperately looking for a way out of this. But that will make Trump look worse so I think in the end he will show up. -

Donald Trump wants to raise import taxes (tariffs) to 10% on all products if he wins the election
The Real timschochet posted a topic in The Geek Club
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/08/22/trump-trade-tariffs/ For the record, the average import tax is currently around 3%. For Chinese products it’s 19% (which IMO is really hurting China’s economy without helping ours.) Trump wants it at 10% across the board. He essentially wants the same sort of full Protectionism that this country hasn’t seen since the days of Smoot-Hawley, which I believe brought on the Great Depression. Again, in my opinion, this one issue would be enough to oppose Trump’s re-election in favor of almost anyone else. I believe if enacted, even for a short time, the effect on our economy would be catastrophic. Trump supporters: do you agree with this proposal? -

Hey @Horseman you were the dumbest poster in this forum for all of 40 minutes. But now you’ve lost the title. And given this dude you may have to work pretty hard to get it back. -

I don’t need to. I get what I wrote. But keep in mind my agreement means nothing; I’m just one dude on the internet with rather iconoclastic views. -

First off he’s your President too. Just as Donald Trump was my President. Second, climate change is a serious problem. The Earth is not dying. But human existence here will certainly be threatened if we don’t address it. Third we cannot solve climate change by restricting existing technologies. This is where the left get its wrong. We can only solve it by coming up with new alternatives that are cost effective than the ones we have. Nuclear fusion seems like the obvious answer. Finally: free trade creates wealth, and wealth creates technology. Free trade prevents wars. Free trade leads to prosperity. If you study human history, tariffs have never produced anything worthwhile. It’s a tax on the consumer. Read Milton Friedman (no wait you’ll never read him.) Read Ludwig Von Mises. Or Adam Smith. -
