Not at all. I’m just excited. I could be totally wrong; I often am. This election is going to be very close and I have no idea how Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan will go. And we all know that’s the key. But 48 hours ago I thought, truly, that Trump would likely win. I said so here. Now that’s all changed. At least for now. Of course I’m jubilant, for as long as it lasts. We’ll see.

I disagree with you regarding Kamala’s competence, experience and moral integrity and I think that will become apparent in the weeks to come.

Another aspect of this that some people don’t get: the black vote. Based on all reporting this is like when Obama became the nominee. The energy is off the charts. Young people too. I truly believe Trump is going to be overwhelmed. And deep down some conservatives know it- that is why they’re whining about how undemocratic this is. Certainly Trump knows what’s about to happen. He’s gone completely off the rails in his posting today. And he’s referring to himself as a young man. Lolol.

I’ve read she was a fine prosecutor but in truth I don’t know the details of that. It was in Northern California and I’m in Southern California. I’m sure that over the next few weeks I’ll study this more, but I also suspect I will continue to be unimpressed by conservative assessments. As far as her time as Senator: yesterday I wrote that she struck me as a centrist and I stand by that. She’s certainly liberal but I have no sense that she was part of the Democratic Socialist AOC wing of the party. You have to remember that this was during Trump’s first term and the Republicans had become so extreme at that point that any Democratic is going to seem more progressive by contrast.

I said they’re a bad measuring stick for exceptional people. Which she clearly is. As it happens my eyes are brown. Thanks for asking.

Nothing wrong with scrutinizing her past. When it’s done through a racist or sexist lens, that will be called out. For example, yesterday JD Vance said that Harris ought to be grateful that she has benefited from being born in this country (implying that she isn’t.) Every black person hearing that knows it’s a dog whistle, basically calling her “uppity”.

Oh bullsh!t. Now you’re just making an argument for the sake of making an argument. I judge people by how they perform. I think that as a prosecutor, an attorney general, and a senator she’s performed very well. Nobody performs good or bad as a VP, it’s a ceremonial job.

Of course she’s an exception. She’s about to be the nominee for President for the Democratic Party. How many people have ever done that? Less than 100? Of course she’s an exception already.

It depends on the issue and what was said just like it did with Obama. Some of the criticism against Kamala is clearly racist. Some of it is borderline or subtly racist. Some of it is not racist at all and gets unfairly labeled as racist. We can expect much more of all three of these.

The number of brilliant people who did not perform well on standardized tests in history is too long to list here but they include Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and Winston Churchill. Not putting Kamala in that category, just saying this is a really poor measuring stick.

I actually don’t mind her or anyone being called a “DEI hire”. What I mind is the idea that a DEI hire is some sort of slur, or evidence that someone is less qualified for a position. Thats the racist part. The only thing a DEI hire means is that, everything else being equal, one’s race or ethnicity (or in this case sex) was also a consideration. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that; in fact given the long history of racism and sexism in all facets of our society, it’s a good thing. The only people that resent it are typically older white conservative men, ignoring the fact that they’ve benefited from white privilege their entire lives. People forget that Clarence Thomas, who replaced Thurgood Marshall, was also a DEI hire.

In about a week or two polls will come out that reflect the changes since Sunday. Then we’ll know if I am right or wrong about this. Right now I am predicting that her popularity will shoot way up and that she will sprint ahead of Trump in the polls. If I am wrong I will certainly own up to it. If I am right, I trust you will do the same.

I don’t agree. I don’t believe that Biden is cognitively impaired. I think he’s gotten older and slower and less able to communicate and he has a disastrous debate. All of that killed his campaign. But Republicans lied about his mental skills and continue to do so, which is shameful, ageist, and disgusting. I stand by everything I wrote in this thread and elsewhere about Biden’s mental abilities.
