    Trump’s New Company, net-worth balloons to $6.4B

There is way too much name calling in this forum on all sides. I don’t recall if you’re partaken in it yourself. But most people here don’t. ETA- actually, writing that “there’s no such thing as serious discussions with liberals” is itself a form of name-calling.

Update: I posted this yesterday morning. Before that I posted numerous times that @Engorgeous George needed to provide me a Venmo or PayPal address and that I was not going to send him a check. He responded directly to this post with “there you go” so it’s not a question of him not seeing it. But he has never given me anything other than a mailing address. So be it. I consider myself absolved of this wager. It’s over. I tried to pay the man despite his weasley bullsh!t, he wouldn’t provide the means. And now we’re done.

    Nuclear fusion breakthrough

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/01/climate/nuclear-fusion-record-korea-climate-intl/index.html Biggest story on the planet. 100 years from now, historians looking back will talk about this topic as they do Gutenberg’s printing press or the start of the Industrial Revolution. This energy will change all of our lives in profound ways we can’t even imagine at this moment. Virtually every problem we face now will be eliminated.

?? No joke. The climate change problem we’re suffering from is a result of man’s use of fossil fuels. Eliminate fossil fuels and the problem goes away.
  5. It’s not BS. They believe in it. I don’t. I vote Democrat mainly because of social issues (I’m pretty woke) and because I completely reject Trump and MAGA. But I don’t think Democrats have great economic ideas. Far from it. I voted for Republicans most of my life. If Ronald Reagan rose from the grave I’d vote for him right now.
  6. They do? Not sure where you live but not in California. We’re building like crazy.
  7. I don’t subscribe to fair share. Fairness is not an aspect of good governance IMO.
  8. They won’t take up plumbing. They’ll simply stop investing in new stuff because it will be financially wiser to hold onto what they have.
  9. Agreed. ETA- and that is why this issue, despite its absolute urgency, doesn’t motivate my vote one way or the other and it shouldn’t yours either. Vote on the issues in which you truly believe that the people you’re voting for will institute the changes you desire. This isn’t one of them.
  10. You sound like a leftist here. Taxing capital gains like labor would severely hurt economic growth and damage the economy. No thanks.
  11. Not at all. If a significant percentage of folks had 2 million or more, say 25%, then yeah I would agree such a restriction would incentivize failure. But at 1% the argument becomes meaningless. Most people won’t get there anyhow.
  12. Update: according to Quora, 2 million or more is less than 1%. I can’t verify that. 1 million or more is 8.8%- that figure is verified in the link.
  13. FTR a net worth of 2 million represents a pretty low percentage of Americans: https://www.zippia.com/advice/millionaire-statistics/#:~:text=Here are some statistics about,of U.S. millionaires are women.
  14. Sorry. Like I said it’s totally unfair. Problem is I don’t have a better solution. Do you?
  15. It’s not you guys. Dems will never dare to propose this. It’s my idea. But yeah I think there’s no other realistic way to reduce the debt significantly.
  16. 1. Anyone who earns over $200,000 a year OR has a net worth of over 2 million dollars shouldn’t receive Social Security or Medicare or any state or federal pension. I know they paid into it. I know it’s unfair. But this is the only way to cut it down. 2. We need to cut defense spending by reducing outdated programs that are no longer viable. If you guys want to get serious about reducing the debt this is the way to do it. Don’t bother talking to me about foreign aid because that’s a drop in the bucket.

Florida SC upholds 6 week abortion ban but allows voters to chime in in November: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/florida-supreme-court-abortion-rights-ballot-measure-rcna142568 This is huge political news and may be decisive for Biden in November. The voters of Florida will be facing a 6 week ban IN PLACE already (as of today in fact) with the chance to overturn it. This will generate huge voter interest especially among those between 20-30. I believe it puts Florida in major play for Democrats and gives Joe Biden a very decent chance to win this state (and if he wins Florida he wins the election.) Stupid of the Florida Republicans to go with a 6 week ban, when they could have had 15 weeks and that might have survived a vote. Stupid of DeSantis to sign it. This whole thing is going to destroy the red in November.

How do you feel about immigration?

Not from the get go everywhere. But definitely the first generation. I’ve read several studies on this; it’s not something I just pulled out of my hat. But Freakanomics may have something contradictory to present.

    What's with the "boyo" thing?

Almost never agree with you but this is 100% true.

    Trump's Cognitive Decline and Health

Yeah a lot of that’s not real, I think he just lost a few billion in the last couple of hours…

What books? I have no idea what you’re referring to.

    Nuclear fusion breakthrough

Why not? Im not an engineer, don’t claim to be one, and not trying to challenge your expertise, which I respect. But I do know that history suggests that when a technological breakthrough happens it can occur very quickly and it often upends all previous predictions. So why not be optimistic?

    Nuclear fusion breakthrough

I’m open to green energy but we haven’t found a way to make it work economically yet. We may never. But if we solve this it becomes a non issue.
