Conservatives are acting like liberals should apologize for stating that Trump is a bad guy, a threat to American democracy, a would be dictator, a bigot, a rapist, and a felon who belongs in prison. I don’t apologize for any of it. It’s all true. He doesn’t deserve to be shot. But he deserves almost all of the criticism he has received.

Pretty much the only true thing you’ve ever written. Hopefully we’ll realize it.

Maybe the shooter was trying to impress Jodie Foster? Or maybe he was trying to serve the wishes of the late Charles Manson? (I’m referencing Squeaky Fromm here for those who are unaware.) Motives are a fool’s errand. If and when we know something we can discuss it then.

Trump praised Biden for calling him. Trump also expressed agreement that perhaps both campaigns can now tone down the rhetoric. I give credit to him for these statements. I’m sure some will criticize the second statement as hypocritical just as many here are criticizing Biden and Democrats for being hypocrites. But I’m not interested. Everybody is a hypocrite from time to time, what matters is are you on the right side now? Trump, on this issue, is on the right side now.

When Trump was first indicted last year we were told that the backlash would guarantee him a victory in 2024. When he was found guilty we were told the backlash would guarantee him a victory. When Biden had the disastrous debate we were told that Trump was guaranteed a victory. And now that Trump has avoided being shot we are told the election has been won. Actually all 4 arguments, when they were made, were quite reasonable. Except they all rely on the same factor: Trump fans and conservatives becoming angry and energized and more eager than ever to vote for their man. But they can’t all be true. In the end the numbers haven’t changed all that much. And as I wrote earlier that’s because the dynamics haven’t changed. I still say Trump has to be the favorite because the debate. But not much of a favorite, IMO. Theres still plenty of time for Biden (or Kamala) to right the ship. Or there’s plenty of time for Trump to sink his own.

More so for sure. Right now Trump has to be the favorite. But we’ll see.

I’m not at all convinced that “this just handed Trump the election”. I suspect we’ll see a slight bump in the polls based on sympathy but that will go away in a few weeks. The dynamics of this election remain the same.

I want to make a point regarding Biden’s “bullseye” comment: years ago Sarah Palin was attacked by liberals for putting Gabby Giffords in a gun target on a video a few days before Giffords was shot. I wasn’t one of those liberals; I defended Palin at the time even though I don’t like her, because she was using common language and had no intention of calling for someone to actually shoot Giffords. It’s the same principle here.

And? At this point we know nothing about the motivation of the shooter. Maybe he was a liberal. Maybe he was a conservative. Maybe he was just insane. Nobody knows yet. That didn’t stop people here and elsewhere from blaming “the Democrats” (or me personally, or a few other people here.)

Shooter was a Republican.

Also very much hoping the internet rumors about the shooter being trans are untrue. That community has suffered enough.

Very glad Trump is OK but I still don’t want him to be President, I still think he’s an incompetent, awful, corrupt, bigoted fool whose ideas are terrible for this country. None of that has changed. If he is elected we are facing economic and social disaster. I’m very convinced of it. Hopefully enough people will see that.

Going to bed now (it’s nearly 2am here.) Good night everyone. To anyone reading this who is a Trump supporter: I’m very sorry this happened. I know you’re angry but it’s not the fault of “the liberals” or “the left” or Biden or the media. It’s the fault of those who did it. If we could come out of this affair with a rejection of political violence, no matter who the target or instigator is, then that would be a positive. In the meantime I wish everyone here well, even those who don’t feel the same towards me.

I was specifically named and asked for my opinion. This is a pretty major event. I don’t think it’s worth ignoring. I also don’t think I’ve been disrespectful in any way so I don’t see any reason to stop posting. (Though I will soon because I need to go to sleep.)

I can’t imagine any sane liberal would be pleased by this. After all what are the results? 1. irs going to make conservatives angrier and more bitter than ever against liberals. 2. it’s going to increase the liklihood of more political violence. 3. It increases the odds that Trump will win the election. What liberal would want this?

Thats excessive caution. I’m guessing they will correct it. In truth nobody knows exactly what happened. It sure looks like somebody took a shot at him. But we don’t know.

Sorry I can’t access that so I don’t know what it says. I believe the MSM is generally honest. I don’t believe that I or anyone who agrees with me, or disagrees with me, deserves to be beaten up. If you do then you’re part of the problem.

I am extremely disturbed that any liberal would feel this way. I believe, very strongly, that you are wrong. I am quite sure that most liberals are as horrified about this as I am.

I agree with you. I have never called Trump “Hitler” and I have always objected to that rhetoric. Always. I’ve always condemned hatred for Trump and stated that I don’t hate him myself. His campaign just stated that he’s OK. Very glad to hear it.
