I don’t think your analysis is right but even if you are, elections are not supposed to be about people getting “what they deserve”, or “retribution” or “sticking it to the libs” or any of the crap conservatives seem to be into these days. They should be about what’s best for the country. If you truly believe that’s Trump then fine, vote for him. But don’t do it to punish anyone. That’s just crappy.

It’s all about the polls and the money. If the polls stay where they are, the money dries up, and he’s gone.

Some people keep arguing that Dems should keep Biden because remember what happened in 1968. But 1968 had two elements that don’t exist today: 1. Robert Kennedy was seen as the heir to his brother, and LBJ hated him. So there was a personal bitterness between the Kennedy folks and Humphrey, LBJ’s chosen successor. If RFK hadn’t been murdered he would have become President in all likelihood. 2. Students and leftists wanted an alternative to Humphrey because of the Vietnam War. This was a much bigger deal than the Hamas war because American youth were directly involved and being drafted. At first, the left went with Eugene McCarthy, but he had no real chance. Then they switched to RFK. After RFK was killed there was no chance of anyone but Humphrey so the left went crazy and rioted at the Convention. None of that is going to happen. So I don’t see the same level of chaos if Biden quits; I think the party unites behind Kamala very quickly and hopes for the best.

The only question you should ask yourself is this: if Kamala was a dude would you write this post?

Sure. But I doubt anyone was satisfied. Here’s the thing: the only way the Democrat, whoever it is, wins this election is if the focus is on Trump. And the result of the debate is that, if Biden stays in, the focus will not be on Trump. Thats why he’s got to quit. It’s unfair IMO, it’s nobody’s fault. But because of that debate Biden probably cant win. Not saying Kamala or somebody else will do better but we’ve got to try. Otherwise we’re just throwing this election away to satisfy Biden’s ego. If it were a normal Republican running I’d be OK with that. But I truly believe that Donald Trump is an existential threat to America (I know you disagree) and so I’m not OK with it. Biden has to go.

I just watched the interview. Biden was stubborn, detached from reality, filled with hubris, incredibly arrogant (he keeps saying he is the ONLY ONE who can defeat Trump.) I am writing this as somebody who, unlike most in this forum, actually likes Joe Biden. I approve of his policies and think he’s done a very fine job as President. But we are watching a Shakespearean tragedy played out in real time. Like MacBeth, like Muhammad Ali at the end of his career. He doesn’t want to leave the stage. And the consequences are very great. It was Mick Jagger who wrote over 50 years ago “what a drag it is getting old”. Mick is currently on tour…

I actually prefer Senators because they know how to get things done. Look at Biden or LBJ or Obama. Each one got major legislation passed. Governors typically don’t know how to do that. Senators know how to compromise.

The most qualified candidate to be President in modern times was Hillary Clinton. No doubt in my mind she would have been an excellent President. But the voters rejected her. Oh well.

How would you know? How would anyone know at this point? Was Harry Truman qualified? Or Ronald Reagan? Reagan was a Hollywood B-actor who became a governor of California, and his record here was mediocre at best. He was a terrific President but he certainly wasn’t qualified for it. Trump was probably the least qualified ever, was a horrible President and his experience as President makes him less qualified than Harris, because it’s obvious he’s learned nothing and would only double down on his incompetence, corruption and authoritarian tendencies. Harris was an excellent state attorney general, a pretty good Senator. Impossible to judge her as a VP because none of them ever do anything. She was OK. Whether she’s qualified to be President nobody knows. Hopefully we’ll find out.

If Kamala becomes the nominee this sort of attack will backfire heavily against those that make it. It will energize and unify Democrats and independents.

Putting aside the specifics of the cases involving Donald Trump, I feel uncomfortable with this decision. Maybe it’s a good legal decision; I’m not knowledgeable enough to know one way or the other and I’m not going to claim that I am. But it sure feels like we’re giving the President way too much power.

Conservatives and liberals are never going to agree on DEI and affirmative action programs. We simply have different core philosophies regarding this issue. Which is OK. What is NOT okay is the assumption, made all too often by conservatives, that anyone of color who benefited from DEI or affirmative action must automatically be incompetent and underserving of the position he or she is in. Thats where it gets ugly.

Her race played a part. But he didn’t pick her off the street. She is well qualified. She served as an attorney general of the most populated state in the Union, and a U.S. Senator from that same state.

Here is a prediction I feel very strongly about: if Kamala is indeed the candidate, and you guys (especially Trump) pushes the racist line that she is nothing more than a “DEI hire” you will lose the election.
