Ilhan Omar IMPLICATED in $250,000,000 FRAUD RING

Actually there’s a very good chance you did: https://www.npr.org/2025/10/10/nx-s1-5568333/former-biden-official-on-president-trumps-peace-plan-for-gaza The peace plan that Trump got Netanyahu to agree to was essentially the same deal that Biden came up with. Netanyahu rejected that ceasefire over a year ago, and there is strong reason to believe he djd it at least in part because Trump advised him not to accept it. Trump wanted the Gaza issue unresolved and he thought that if there was a peace achieved it would help Democrats particularly in Michigan. So as a result there was an additional year of no peace, thousands of Palestinian children were killed, but Trump got his victory.

I’ve already offered my opinion on this issue numerous times. I have nothing more to add at the moment. I’m asking for YOUR opinion.

    Feel Good Deportation Stories

https://www.propublica.org/article/immigration-dhs-american-citizens-arrested-detained-against-will https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/show/children-who-are-u-s-citizens-deported-along-with-foreign-born-mothers-attorneys-say The first article refers to American citizens detained. Not deported. But the fact they were arrested and detained is bad enough. It should not happen. The second article is about children born here deported with their parents. That is wrong IMO. Not only should the children be allowed to stay but so should the parents so long as they haven’t committed any violent crime.

    SNAP

I want to understand you correctly. Are you saying that there is waste in the system, and that it needs to be adjusted because too many people are taking advantage of it? Or are you saying that SNAP shouldn’t be in place period and that everyone in our society should be responsible for themselves?

Tim’s thread about anything but politics

Even as a response to @seafoam1 this is in really poor taste. Politics aside (which it will always be from me in this thread) I wish Biden or Trump or any President would put a maximum, space program like effort into this issue. My mother and brother and best friend died of it. This past month I learned another close friend has prostate cancer and my cousin has breast cancer. I’m sure I’m not rare; everyone reading this has close friends and family who have died or suffered greatly from this. I’m 60 years old and I know that any day, any month I could be told I have some form of it; the odds are decent no matter what I try to do to stay healthy. So please let’s try to refrain from calling anyone around here or elsewhere a cancer.

Can be is not the same as should be. Thats where the deserving part comes in. And you didn’t address the fact that some of the folks deported have American citizenship or the legal right to be here. Finally if you guys are going to keep making the argument (IMO absurd, unworkable, immoral and unamerican) that everyone here without legal papers must be deported regardless of what crimes they have committed while here, then stop focusing on the ones that have committed violent crimes. You can’t have it both ways.

    US Federal Government Shutdown Thread

Still a long process here: 1. Once Grivalya is in it and signs the discharge petition it will be 9 legislative days before it’s brought to a vote. Trump has already stated that he will consider anyone who votes for this a “personal betrayal” so even though reports have been that up to 100 Republicans will defect, who knows? 2. If it passes the House it goes to the Senate. John Thune could sit on it awhile, or indefinitely, hoping it goes away. It all depends on how much pressure he gets from Republican voters- it doesn’t matter what the public thinks, only Republican voters. 3. If it passes the Senate it goes to Trump’s desk. Trump has already indicated he will veto “because the whole thing is a hoax!” At that point the question becomes, how will Trump supporters react? If they stay loyal to him this scandal will go away, and won’t emerge again until Democrats get control of both chambers (assuming they do- they will win the House for sure but the Senate remains a crapshoot.) Personally I think it will be years, if ever, before we get to the bottom of this. Hope I’m wrong though.

    Feel Good Deportation Stories

Right now ICE is rounding up all sorts of innocent people who do not deserve to be rounded up because they committed no violent crime. Some of them are American citizens or otherwise have the legal right to be here, and they were arrested for no other reason than ethnicity or skin color. THIS is the real crime, not what the Biden Administration did. If the choice is between Biden being too loose about this stuff and Trump being far too tough. Give me Biden. Polls show the American people (finally!) feel the same way as I do and you will see that in the next election.

“Reasonable” means reasonable for everyone under it. The reason we have these laws is so that innocent people will not be unjustly deported. The cost of having legal structures such as this in place is that bad guys might escape justice. You and @Strike and the rest would rather that dozens or hundreds of innocent people be treated unjustly rather than we allow one bad guy to escape. I feel the opposite. I don’t want to a system where we treat anyone unjustly and if that means that some criminals can get away with it, so be it. We need to work harder to catch them within rules that are fair to everyone.

Democrats Vote To End Healthcare For Millions

The problem with your earlier statement regarding this is that it’s not either-or. In most cases it’s both.
  15. The Real timschochet

    Feel Good Deportation Stories

    1. Because, under Biden we had reasonable laws for seeking asylum in the US and if the articles you posted are true, this person took advantage of them. That can happen, but it doesn’t mean that the laws shouldn’t have been there. 2. What we did NOT have under Biden, and what we have even less of now, is enough judges to adjudicate these cases on a timely basis. That also apparently helped this killer escape justice.

Democrats Vote To End Healthcare For Millions

lol they’re so wrong. And I like Ro Khanna. But he’s either looking for political points here, or just wrong, or both.
  17. One thing that I DO disagree with Wallace on- she thinks that the infighting among Dems over this (she called it “a circular firing squad”) is unhelpful. I disagree. The struggle between older moderate establishment party leaders and young, passionate radicals in one of the oldest stories in all of politics. It almost always serves to strengthen the party for the fight ahead. Another word for a “unified party” is a cult.
  18. More and more Democrats (and those opposed to Trump) are coming to the conclusion that this result is good for Democrats. Latest is Nicole Wallace. Look the public doesn’t care about process. The reason they’ve been on the Democrats side in this whole affair is that they believe the Democrats want lower healthcare premiums and are fighting for it. It’s that simple. Now a reasonable, somewhat nuanced argument can be made that Republicans are also fighting for lower healthcare premiums- but Republicans aren’t making it. They’re losing the messaging war on this.
  19. The Real timschochet

This reminds me of why we didn’t get universal healthcare

Obama didn’t give us universal healthcare but by passing ACA he made it almost inevitable. The most important aspect, by far, of ACA is that people with pre-existing conditions cannot be rejected by insurance companies and get to pay the exact same premiums as everyone else. Once this was done, there was no way to keep health care affordable without pouring loads of government money into it, which we’re doing now. Eventually we will end up with single payer as a result.

My argument is that politicians from both parties for the most part care about people. I don’t believe that Democrats care more than Republicans.
  23. The Real timschochet

    SNAP

The shock and disgust that @squistion and I and many other people have expressed is over how Trump has gone out of his way to fight against the SNAP payments being released. If he had just gone along with the court decision then would have been released long since, despite the shutdown. But he has fought this every step of the way, even now, appealed every decision, even threatened states that paid out the funds, and publicly stated he is doing this to punish Democrats. In other words you’re wrong that “SNAP funding lapses during a shutdown.” It never has. There are emergency funds to prevent it from doing so. Trump has deliberately made the decision not to use those funds. The courts so far have unanimously ruled that he has to. He’s still fighting it. This is on Donald Trump.
  24. The Epstein stuff is an added plus but not really part of my argument. My argument is based on putting heath care front and center, which benefits Democrats.
  25. The Real timschochet

    SNAP

So much wrong with this. But I’ll limit my response to the two bolded areas: 1. Because those “benefits” are necessary to feed people so it’s a moral question. 2. Wrong. Most politicians, Republican and Democrat alike, do care. Donald Trump does not.
