I wouldn’t mind a high speed rail from Orange County to Vegas, or Orange County to San Francisco. Those are two trips I drive often and I might enjoy taking a train instead especially if it saves me time. But I don’t need the government to pay for it.
-
I am a California Democrat and I very likely will be supporting Gavin Newsom for President (depending on who else is running.) But the train project was a disaster from start to finish. Idiotic. Complete waste of time and money.

The enhanced ACA subsidies will expire at the end of December; premiums will double for millions of Americans

Obamacare, like all government programs, are an invitation for the unscrupulous to be dishonest. -

She didn’t cheer 9/11. She said “some people did something”. She claims she was taken out of context. I have no idea though I disapprove of that statement. Omar is definitely not my cup of tea but the attacks against her are over the top, ugly and often racist. Such as your use of the word “filthy” which I doubt you would apply to other, fairer skinned politicians. -

I was referring to Romneycare. But you’re right, plenty of people hate Obamacare. The majority of Americans, per polling, seem to like it. I’m not one of them. I opposed it. Even so, we have it now and IMO to get rid of it would make things even worse. The key to Obamacare is that people don’t have to pay more for pre-existing conditions. Once we as a nation decided to do that, we essentially made private healthcare insurance untenable. The only viable solution, short of full socialized medicine, is a system like Obamacare with all of its problems, that we’re going to have to keep throwing money at. -

Don’t forget that the Reiners were Jewish so according to you they’re part of a worldwide evil conspiracy as well. -

I’m simply offering the facts as reported. There are plenty of articles out there about the effects of Romneycare both good and bad. Feel free to explore them. -

Republican moderates in the Senate are working very hard on a last minute extension of the extended subsidies for two years in exchange for financial limits and measures to reduce corruption. But there are a lot of problems with getting this agreed to, one of the main ones being abortion. Republicans want insurance for that removed from any coverage. That’s a nonstarter for Democrats. And the moderate Republicans need Democrats to vote for this because many conservative Republicans won’t. So this compromise will probably fail. -

The No Kings rally was extremely patriotic. At the event I took part in there were American flags everywhere. Nationwide there were about 7 million people; not sure where the 50 million number came from. But it was the largest single day protest in our history. -

It significantly increased the amount of healthcare insurance among poorer people and reduced mortality rates among them. These are good things, no? -

It’s around 24 million people per what I’m reading. Perhaps that’s your idea of a “few million”. But a lot of them will be small business owners so I imagine there will be much related fallout. You might also want to consider that there is some relationship between the doubling of your car insurance and real estate taxes and the politicians you have chosen to support. -

I don’t think it’s misleading because I explained things in the opening post. But in any event I will change it. -

No let’s not. Based on the article you linked he said that Rush lied about climate change (an accurate statement.) Not an insult, a comment about policy. Hardly objectionable IMO. -

OK let’s tell the truth. By all accounts Rob Reiner was an incredibly kind, decent guy, loved by nearly everyone in Hollywood, liberals and conservatives alike. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him insult anyone. His response to Charlie Kirk’s murder was all class. His opposition to Trump was, so far as I know, based on policy differences. In the political realm, Reiner’s greatest accomplishment was getting gay marriage approved by the Supreme Court, which I think most people approve of these days. Per your comment about what the left would have said if Trump had been murdered, no doubt you’re right about some. But I can almost guarantee you that Rob Reiner would not have been one of them. -

I appreciate all of the conservatives here who have condemned Trump’s post. I firmly believe that most Americans, whether liberal or conservative, are basically decent people. We need to call out the ones who aren’t. -

The article you linked says Reiner criticized Limbaugh after his death, and then quotes him calling Limbaugh a liar. It then attempts to link Reiner with others who had terrible things to say, “rot in hell”, etc. Except that Reiner didn’t say anything terrible himself. He used the word “liar” and it was specially regarding the issue of climate change. You linked this, apparently, to make yourself feel better about Trump’s horrible response to this murder. You really shouldn’t. -

Getting back to Nick Reiner: Ive known plenty of addicts in my life and as I’ve mentioned because of my wife I’ve been heavily involved in AA for the last 10 years. I’ve heard terrible stories about people making awful choices, some of which their family members in particular can never forgive. I’m sure almost everyone reading this has had some experience with addicts- it’s all too common in our society. But thankfully I’ve never known any murderers. It seems to me that this goes beyond an “awful choice”, and even beyond addiction related crimes like deaths caused from drunk driving, etc. as terrible as those crimes are, the difference is that what Nick Reiner allegedly did was purposeful. That to me makes it so much worse, an evil act. We can try to understand his act based on addiction but never accept it or condone it. If he’s found guilty he should be either put away for life or executed. -

The practice of excluding people based on religion, ethnicity, or place of origin alone, irrespective of any other factors, is bigoted, morally wrong, and will make us less safe. I don’t have a problem with extensive vetting, long wait periods, and treating people with more caution based on where they’re from. But exclusion is unacceptable.
