June 27 Presidential debate
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Biden can win the debate if he appears normal and lucid. And if he keeps the focus on Trump’s crazy ideas. -
June 27 Presidential debate
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Conservatives shouldn’t ever bring up social security or debt issues until they come up with plans for fixing them. We already know that if Trump gets in he’s going to massively increase the debt, as he did last time even before Covid, and do nothing to address Social Security. -
🇺🇸Father Trump Talk-🚨The Official Thread of MAGA🚨 So the drug cartels are going to fiile a complaint with The Hague

Tapper was correct ( he usually is and your characterization of him is awful) but Trump’s comments were terrible anyhow. People who march alongside Nazis, even if they’re not Nazis themselves, are still not very fine people. Trump isn’t a Nazi but he is a racist bigot who sometimes sympathizes with Nazis as he did here. He deserved to be condemned for it, not to mention for all the other bigoted and racist comments he makes on a nearly daily basis. -
Louisiana requires Ten Commandments displayed in every public classroom
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I believe that soon a state like Louisiana will pass a law banning same sex marriage. The goal will be the same as this one: trying to get these issues revisited by the new conservative Supreme Court. -
"Decency is on the ballot" - Jill Biden

Jill is right about this. It’s not the main reason to vote for Biden but it’s a good one. -

I actually think your criticism of Biden may be a fair one. But Trump will never raise it because that would involve a substantive discussion about Social Security and the debt in general, and I don’t believe Trump is capable of a serious wonklike issue related discussion of that sort. I don’t think he understands it. -

Honestly I disagree with you. Biden has bad arthritis which is why he has trouble walking. But I haven’t seen any indication that his mind is affected or that there is any kind of mental dementia. I just don’t see it. -

Steak without ketchup. -
I hope you don’t leave California. We need reasonable conservatives and reasonable liberals to combat the extremists on both sides who want to take over the state (and this country.)

Diversity programs are bad because conservatives want to ignore history and white privilege and pretend that everyone has equal opportunity to succeed regardless of race or gender.

I can’t go there with my family because my daughter has a peanut allergy. But I enjoy it from time to time myself. Because they’re not a drive thru, and because we have so many hamburger drive thrus here (including In N Out which is considered upscale) Five Guys had better be pretty high quality to do business. I think it is. -

But that would be wrong because I don’t. -

If you’re going to quote me get it right: I do NOT believe in an activist court. I simply believe that there are more rights implicit in the Constitution than conservatives do. (Conservatives are hypocrites on this anyway- they keep finding rights hidden in the 2nd Amendment but refuse to find them anywhere else- they’re only for originalism when it suits them.) -

They’re being deliberately slow on the Trump immunity decision in order to help him win the election if they can. Pretty sad state of affairs. -
There’s always backlash to wokeism and sometimes it’s powerful. Three steps forward one step back. We’ll get there eventually. In ten years from now the folks complaining about this will be embarrassed that they ever did; that’s the way it always goes.

Based on the Dobbs decision I have to believe these bans will be upheld. If the conservative majority rejects the idea of an implicit right to privacy in the Constitution then there’s no legal basis for them to overturn whatever states decide. Of course there IS a right to privacy in the Constitution but these conservatives reject that. Which is why we need to work at getting an eventual liberal majority back in the SC (not by packing it, just over time through elections). Then all this crap can be overturned. And in the meantime we need liberal majorities in the House and Senate in order to grant federal protections for these lost rights. -

First off were the most populated state so it’s likely we’re going to have the “most” of anything, Second, from what my gun owning friends tell me if I wanted to possess a firearm I am not allowed to have legally all I gotta do is drive to Nevada and get one. Which is why for any gun restriction to be truly effective it has to be federal. -
Yeah but they’ve also been calling for free trade and open immigration. I doubt they’re going to be too excited about Project 2025.

It’s pretty scary stuff. But we have to remember what is the root of all this. It’s the same reason that’s been behind Trump’s popularity all along since he first came down the escalator in 2015 (and even before that when the Birther movement was popular)- it’s the fear of the browning of America. Everything goes back to this: white people (some of us) are terrified of becoming a minority. If you understand this point you understand the rest. (It’s the same impetus for all of the extreme right wing movements in Europe these days.)

You’re right about the most important states but I question that Vance would make a positive impact. -

Love her. She is awesome. But I don’t need her to tell me what Marco Rubio thinks. I’ve followed him for a long time, Used to be a big fan.
